The same thing happened to me. I was busy working, so I asked my girlfriend if she could get up early and pick up the Spider-Man steelbook for me. Best Buy told her they never got it. I was pissed off but also felt bad that I made my girlfriend get up early for nothing. Now I’m stuck with the crappy standard blu-ray cover with Spider-Man and Doctor Strange on it. 😞 Still though, shoutout to my gf for getting up early for me to pick the movie up.
The steelbook didn't even hit the stores apparently! Sony didn't give enough supply, it's been scalped unfortunately so I had to import WeET premium steel from korea! Hope you have a great weekend John!

That is very odd that not all of their physical media isn’t put in stores. You make a good point. Though I don’t own one myself I have noticed there aren’t as many steel books on the shelves in any of those stores these days. I thought I bought a 4K player this past Christmas but found out later the guy at Walmart didn’t know what he was talking about. Now I just have a new 4K upscale blu ray player. If I had got one though No Way Home would’ve have been one of the 4K movies I would’ve bought.
I work at a McDonald’s located in a Walmart, and I completely agree with those comments you made about Walmart. So many customers that I deal with are just horrible.

There are a number of sites that offer custom cover art for Blu-Ray & DVD. If you are concerned with the artwork, I highly suggest going that route. I did it back when I collected physical media and I still have some of the covers. The custom Star Wars art was just too good to get rid of.

I went to our local Best Buy to try to surprise my husband with the steel book. SUPER ticked still that they didn't give the stores copies. The associate humored me and went to the back to check though 🙄🤣 I unfortunately came home with the 💩web version, too. Our son was overjoyed and thought it was hilarious, so silver lining?! Ha! Hey John been a fan since 2014. I really want that 4k of Spider-Man No Way Home because my stupid local store doesn't sell a single edition of No way Home. You can't even get the DVD, now that is some bs right there.
I too tried to to get a Steelbook from either Best Buy or Zavvi, but I figured they’d be sold out. I’m also not a fan of the standard 4K slipcover. So I got the 4K from Amazon UK instead for their standard plastic case has better artwork than the one we have.

Shortly after that, it was basically sold out. It’s a nice steelbook for what it’s worth, and an amazing movie, but I’m still sorry for you not getting it. “Don’t get scared now”.

Not only was the steelbook online only. A lot of people who had the pre order had it cancelled on them because there wasn't enough copies. They really screwed up with this one.

I feel you on the physical media rant. I'm honestly at this point getting sick of big bloated corporations like Best Buy, and have come to realize that no one running the places knows anything about movies or games... or really anything except fiscal charts and profit margins. Their Black Friday has become a sludge of nothing, unlike the good old days 10 or so years ago when you'd find worthwhile movies from 1 to 5 bucks. Now its all that "$9.99 and up" shelves like that's somehow a favor! What a bunch of shameless douchebags. IMHO, it's best to stick with smaller Indy physical media companies that actually care about movies, like Shout Factory, Scream Factory, Arrow Video, Blue Underground, etc. Sure it's mostly online, but I'd prefer to give them my money over bloated studios like Sony or Universal who dont bother releasing physical copies in stores because Karen from Soccerville USA doesnt care about movies and is more interested in an overpriced blender.

I was on vacation in Arizona when NWH came out and had to watch it in the worst theatre I’ve been to in years so I would love this 4K version to get the full experience lol
I want a copy of Spider-Man No Way Home because it is my favorite movie of ALL TIME!!! It is the only movie I have watched in theaters 4 times! And lastly I own all the Spider-Man movies but this one so it would be Amazing to complete that collection. Most steelbooks sell out online! Best Buy hardly ever has then in-store. They last couple that I really wanted I made sure to pre-order them. I have no issue with this except you can't pick it up in the store so you are forced to pay shipping--which pisses me off too!!
I would like a copy on 4k because where I live our walmart only gets 2-3 copies and both copies i ordered on amazon were damaged. Great video and skywalker saga is amazing
Online only is annoying as hell. I preorder them online just to be safe because even if they're sold in store they're always sold out anyway. But to ONLY do it only? I hate that. I was lucky enough to snag one of them early on when preorders went up and I saw them go in and out of stock over the course of a week or so. Snagged the Batman one too. But ironically I think the hardest steelbook to get as of late was 'Halloween Kills'. That was never came back up after it originally sold out. I can't do the regular non-steelbook though. If I'm getting 4K on disc it's going to be in a damn good steelbook.
You're lucky tho John because here in the UK steelbooks are practically non existent in every shop and all physical media places are pretty much gone in shops all we have is cex and hmv now for physical media shops
The most baffling thing about that slipcover is it has been changed to be wrong on purpose. That image, with the buildings rotated so that they imitate a Doc Ock arm hand and with the webbing in front of Spider-Man, is online.
As an avid steelbooker, I’ve found that if its a big movie, and you dont preorder it the second the link goes live, you’re not getting it. Unless you wanna pay for scalper prices
I don’t even think they released these in stores maybe because they didn’t have no employees at the warehouses where they make these pre Covid there was always steelbooks

Personally I’d be happy with the NWH copy because Im also a physical media collector but I also wasn’t able to pick up the amazing steelbook, and I went to buy just the normal 4K blu ray and there weren’t any of those either! Yeah after I preordered the Steelbook, minutes or seconds later it sold out. Yeah physical locations are such a waste of time, I was at Walmart the other day, to see what 4k movies they have, I kid you not, they had two 4Ks in the entire 4K section and all they do is they fill up the 4K section with blu rays. What's more upsetting is that physical locations will have things in stock online, but they won’t have it at the actual store, its dumb on my part for giving stores in my area a chance.
When you talked about your thoughts on Walmart, I think about this time, around 20 years ago, I went to a Walmart and one of the employees was walking around the store talking to himself. It was really weird. Also, I'd love to get the 4K Spider-Man: No Way Home because a) I only own one 4K movie and b) I haven't seen Spider-Man: No Way Home yet (yes, judge away).

It's funny how Best Buy stores in Canada don't sell movies anymore and haven't for many, many years. They purely sell electronics and appliances now; no movies of any kind.

I have tried lsd 2 times and in one of those trips everything WAS built by Legos, it was so amazingly mind blowing that I never tried it again.

I was on vacation in Arizona when NWH came out and had to watch it in the worst theatre I’ve been to in years so I would love this 4K version to get the full experience lol
I want a copy of Spider-Man No Way Home because it is my favorite movie of ALL TIME!!! It is the only movie I have watched in theaters 4 times! And lastly I own all the Spider-Man movies but this one so it would be Amazing to complete that collection. I don’t like the slipcover either but I can get over that because it would be great to own the movie.

Most steelbooks sell out online! Best Buy hardly ever has then in-store. They last couple that I really wanted I made sure to pre-order them. I have no issue with this except you can't pick it up in the store so you are forced to pay shipping--which pisses me off too!!
Did you know that Best Buy went broke here in Mexico? No one is buying physical media down here. So, it’s imposible to find them. Besides Amazon

I completely agree with you on Physical media and the cover of Spiderman. However, a copy of Spiderman is better than no copy.
I would like a copy on 4k because where I live our walmart only gets 2-3 copies and both copies i ordered on amazon were damaged.

Online only is annoying as hell. I preorder them online just to be safe because even if they're sold in store they're always sold out anyway. But to ONLY do it only? I hate that. I was lucky enough to snag one of them early on when preorders went up and I saw them go in and out of stock over the course of a week or so. Snagged the Batman one too. But ironically I think the hardest steelbook to get as of late was 'Halloween Kills'. That was never came back up after it originally sold out. I can't do the regular non-steelbook though. If I'm getting 4K on disc it's going to be in a damn good steelbook.
You're lucky tho John because here in the UK steelbooks are practically non existent in every shop and all physical media places are pretty much gone in shops all we have is cex and hmv now for physical media shops
The most baffling thing about that slipcover is it has been changed to be wrong on purpose. That image, with the buildings rotated so that they imitate a Doc Ock arm hand and with the webbing in front of Spider-Man, is online.

As an avid steelbooker, I’ve found that if its a big movie, and you dont preorder it the second the link goes live, you’re not getting it. Unless you wanna pay for scalper prices

Personally I’d be happy with the NWH copy because Im also a physical media collector but I also wasn’t able to pick up the amazing steelbook, and I went to buy just the normal 4K blu ray and there weren’t any of those either! Yeah after I preordered the Steelbook, minutes or seconds later it sold out. Yeah physical locations are such a waste of time, I was at Walmart the other day, to see what 4k movies they have, I kid you not, they had two 4Ks in the entire 4K section and all they do is they fill up the 4K section with blu rays. What's more upsetting is that physical locations will have things in stock online, but they won’t have it at the actual store, its dumb on my part for giving stores in my area a chance.
I want that 4K copy of Spider-Man just so I can throw the cover out and print out a nicer one
When you talked about your thoughts on Walmart, I think about this time, around 20 years ago, I went to a Walmart and one of the employees was walking around the store talking to himself. It was really weird. Also, I'd love to get the 4K Spider-Man: No Way Home because a) I only own one 4K movie and b) I haven't seen Spider-Man: No Way Home yet (yes, judge away).

It's funny how Best Buy stores in Canada don't sell movies anymore and haven't for many, many years. They purely sell electronics and appliances now; no movies of any kind.
