no, the British forced homogeny because it was easier for ruling so Kalanga is not formally taught as like welsh is taught in Britain only Shona and Ndebele

Also does anyone with knowledge of how these languages developed because I've heard that Kalanga is just a dialect of Shona and there were other dialects as Shona isn't even the original super language spoken in the region. I have heard that it was the missionaries who made kalanga a language instead of being a dialect.
I don't know how true that is, it would help so we can preserve some of these languages...

I would add that shona drops the Ls for Rs while the other dialects have L sounds so a word like Basekulu is just Sekuru in a different dialect - same meaning

So to my understanding Shona is an ethnic group of people just like ( Nguni people have Ndebele, xhosa, Zulu and swati) so in that group there are different dialects which are manyika, ndau , korekore and karanga is one of them too. Then Kalanga people got mixed with ndebele people as Mzilikazi invaded Zimbabwe and fought groups of people he found to establish his empire and mark his territory that's why the dialects are different but in great Zimbabwe before Mzilikazi came in 1800s I think Kalanga/karanga was one language and Shona wasn't a language
