    Before you comment!
    1. I actually played the game for two months. Admittedly, the way I wrote the script makes it easy to come away thinking I only played for a month, but if you listen closely, I said that it was at the one month mark that I was *about* to quit, and then the 1 year anniversary hit (which lasted a month). Ergo, 2 months.
    If you really don't think 2 months is long enough, I want you to seriously take a step back and re-evaluate just how insane that is. Even the hardest-core of MMOs realize that taking that long to get to endgame content is a massive problem for retaining new players (and some games like WoW tried to solve it with the level 90 boost microtransaction instead of making the endgame require less grind, but that's a whole other problem). The point remains that the time and luck required to experience the endgame is not worth it.
    2. About Maxwell... admittedly this was only based off of her writing in the main story because I had started skipping individual character stories. I got tired of slogging through cutscenes that assumed I was already caught up on the story, so I stopped paying attention to them. After going back through her character story, yeah it's kinda bad, but still not nearly as bad as stuff that Yuni and Mihara are implied to have done to the commander. Nor does it give any kind of option for the player to consent anyhow, which is dumb given how Rosanna's character story goes.

      I'm a 10 month f2p player and I agree with the 1st statement. Hard to progress for story reasons if the power cap is in the way.

    • @Avusui
      @Avusui 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      I'm going to say your WoW statement is the reason players leave. People get to the cap fast try the new content and either don't like it or get bored. There was no investment to begin with so they leave. If that's how you like to play games which is to ass blast thru everything and move onto the next then please state that. Not gonna address what everyone already said in the comments about the Twitter bait. The game clearly advertised its a fan service shooter, not sure what else you expected. Also saying it's hornier than GF is debatable. You implied the game isn't being honest about the sexuality which is just a... lie? Idk what gave you that impression but you stand behind 2b. Anyway you complained about the story progression which is a fair complaint however blaming the devs for this is ignorance, once again it is a "afk" gacha game which they all have the same formula the devs just followed that formula, the story gets better and better I am on chapter 24 and honestly I am fine with logging in and playing for a bit and being done. The limited progression is literally any gacha game, other games cloud this with manual grinding or stamina aka time gating. If that is a problem gachas are not for you, blasting thru a gacha story isn't something you can do. That is the genshin fallacy, with that only pertaining to the story, as its actual progression is still time gated like any. TLDR: you should practice what you preach, and not play gacha.

    During the anniversary, Nikke gave out 5x10 pull tickets in the mail, and by doing dailies/weeklies and also playing events, it totaled over 100 pulls for that month, and at that same month, Nikke's revenue surpassed HSR.

    • @Spectacular_Insanity

      Nikke has cracked the formula and realized that the more generous you are and the more goodwill among the playerbase you cultivate, the more willing they are to spend money on the game. It's simple, but a lot of gacha games don't seem to understand how it works.

    About the cast not having existential crisis, blame NIMPH.
    Keeps them sane.
    As for all those questions you have around "The Good, The Bad, The Horny" part.
    It's answered later on past chapter 14 and more.
    Why R units are more tactical looking than SSRs?
    Because all those NIKKEs are obviously not meant to be up on the surface.
    Their designs already explain the reasons why they're not supposed to be up there.
    Why is there a child NIKKE? Lore has the answers.
    There's also a reason why NIKKEs are all female. Spoilers if you haven't gotten that answer.

    The combat is actually very engaging if you are pushing high CP deficits. 30-35%+ with a meta team or 10-20% deficit with a non-meta team. Being able to clear at deficit brings out the actual mechanics where you need the right team comp, spam fire to build burst, time bursts appropriately, use cover, and target specific raptures in the right order to prevent deaths. When you are overleveled, you can just auto it, but if running at the right CP deficit, combat requires manual play and it is actually engaging/challenging/fun.

    • @thespectator5259
      @thespectator5259 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      This. People that don't progress if the game can't clear the stages on auto are really gimping themselves. The game imo has the best elements of an idle game in the fact that it farms resources for me, but it can ALSO be a very engaging active *shooter* game if you aren't discouraged by a CP deficit. Yeah ofc auto won't clear the stage if your under CP.
      I have a meta team right now, but even before when I only had A and below tier units, I was still able to clear content with the deficit you pointed out (10-20%).
      As you said, you can still clear stages if you actually learn the mechanics and actually play the game and that is the point it becomes a legitimately good arcade shooter. My squad all have very nice backsides that I am paying zero attention too since I'm actually focused on the *gameplay.* 😅

    Is the fan service something really THAT bad for the game? No but there are some sweethearts here and there that can't handle it and want to whine and complain about it.
    Do I think Vermi here makes a point about how the fan service ruins the experience of Nikke? No, the fan service IS part of Nikke's allure, the same with Azur Lane and THEIR fan service, the same with Honkai Impact 3rd and their lesbian fan service here and there. It's a part of the game and their community LOVES it.
    No game in this big big world can appeal nor will appeal to everyone and that's fine, why? because we are all different and just like Vermi here can't handle big ass cheeks that clap every time a bullet is fired doesn't enjoy the game for what it is there are some others that enjoy it whole hearthly.

    If you can play any gachagame with daily comitment. You can play NIkke. There is a reason why this game was the 2nd most grossing gachagame. Good charachter designs, good grinding, Amazing lore and the sound track absolutly slaps harder than God. The Gacha is also one of the most forgiving systems easily being better than 90% of all Gacha games. Rewards and rolls are easy with events happening literal every moment you play the game that are low to ground and have free loot. The only issue is the 160 cap which relies on Gacha but is less painful because you can reset your exisiting nikke's levels to upgrade new higher level cap nikkes.

    Good review, u didnt make it to the late-game/End-game (what i enjoy the most) ranking the high on the Ranks in Solo-Raid (highest difficulty), Union-Raids (medium dif), and Coop-Raids (low dif), making 5 teams of 5 nikkes each squad with great sinergy each team to beat End-Game Bosses,... also u didnt even manage to get to Late-Game farm of legendary equipment u need to be in Campain 17, u barely got to 14 i think, but the review for an early-mid game was pretty acceptable.
    I love this game, but i tried to convince some friends to play with me, and they also manage to get as far as your low level account, and they quit... sadly the early-mid game of NIKKE is not the greatest for new players, they should Unlock ALL content just by reaching Campain 10 or 12... not 16 and above. So i hope 2024 gets better for Newbies.
    At least my wife is playing (she has to... (ñ_ñ)U), sadly an early-mid reviews of the game versus late game reviews that only Nikke Content Creators in End-Game Levels, both reviews are waaay different, what day 1 players like me who are at late-game experiences the game way differently, u speak a lot of campain, i havent played normal campain for months... and when they add a new lvl i just decimate the new level en a few minutes and keep pushing Hard-Mode content day by day and keep improving my account for Raid-Content and improve in Arena/PVP Content.

Nikke, unlike every other major gacha game, actually has a variety of body types and sizes, skins colors, ages, and degrees of sexuality…change the title to Hoyofan tries other gacha for the first time because your lack of basic knowledge regarding gacha games in general also skews this review in a big way.

      One big tip incase you want to avoid the burnout Vermillion had is to learn team compositioning and how to play manual. Contrary to what Vermillion says it is VERY possible to push through the story when underleveled, mess around with the game and get experimental if you're struggling. Avoid auto if you want to go far and aren't overleved.

    2. Story Progression.
    Uh... Hello? you forgot how Fontaine Level requirement is Adventurer Level 40? I got to 40 in like half a year when I first played Genshin. What you expect to gain in a month?
    3. Maxwell Best Girl?
    Really? you call that Rapist best girl?
    Edit: 2 months..... Yeah, what you get from a month and an anniv from hoyoverse again. Oh yeah, a bread crumb. You're a goddamn hard core if you have a party of lvl 80 characters in 2 months on genshin, while star rail practically made their event permanent. thats an all you can eat, so no comment about that. Any game that can reached END GAME content within 2 months will only cause people to be bored and Burned out, Like Genahin on it's first year. All the players did after finishing Liyue was daily, event, weekly, then logout. (Basically no different than today.) Know that's being said, I've just realized just how bricked genshin player with monotone activities for almost 3 years.
    About Maxwell, yeah Yuni and Mihara are MISSILIS thst are not Matis. Anyone who actually read will know how MISSILIS other than Matis are treated by the damn Industry. While Rossana, She's basically required to act like that. She's part of a squad called Underworld Queen. They're tasked by Mustang to "Control" the Outer Rim which is basically Slums full of Criminals and Terrorist. What you expect from a watchdog that tasked to watch over that kind of place? A Barbie Girl?

      You can easily get AR40 in a month on Genshin now. Hell, when I restarted a new account on PC (back at launch they didn't have the account linking in place so I couldn't transfer from PS4 to PC easily) years ago I hit AR22 in a single day. It's even easier now to get tons of Adventure Rank EXP due to things like the Frostbearing Tree/Sacred Sakura/Tree of Dreams/Fountain of Lucine which all give tons of the stuff as well as there being far more chests in the game than back then.
      You really won't get content gated in Genshin at all anymore unless you aren't opening chests or doing the intended side content.

    The one thing I would say that's quite a big miss for me in this review is made clear to me by 41:29
    By the time you get to chapter 14, it's common for you to be under-leveled from there on out and for a reason. It allows for the game to not just get more challenging, but to demand your attention as a player to it's various gameplay mechanics. As such, certain questions come to mind:
    -How can I build my team better?
    -Am I leveling the right skills?
    -Am I targeting the right Raptures?(e.g the lantern lookin ones that stuns your Nikkes, either of the 2 variants that jump towards you, any Rapture that is capable of healing or buffing (they even have distinct sound cues and are introduced as early as the tutorial))
    -When and how should I use the Cover? (Example: 42:47 Though you are clearly at a good level for the fight, knowing how to time using cover well can help you greatly when you're under level, or if you're doing a raid run of bosses like this one. Since taking cover RIGHT before the attack hits can even NEGATE all damage taken for a brief period of time.)
    The gameplay itself isn't super complex but it's not as shallow as it seems either. The most complex thing about it however is the team building. If you want to push the campaign, start to build teams of Nikkes who play well off of each other, some examples include; Maxwell + Alice, Maxwell + Red Hood, 2B + Mast and Noise, Any Nikke that does something at the last bullet of their mag like Pepper + Privaty (A free to play unit who's still meta for the endgame).The list goes ON and only gets longer the more creative you are with your team building.
    In fact, Alice herself is close to the pinnacle of what's possible when you learn how to build units and their teams, with Alice being the main units that often BREAKS THE GAME.
    The endgame of Nikke is more often than not at that 'sweet spot' you mentioned in the video. Which often encourages you to build your teams better. Perfect examples of this are the Union and Solo Raids which you did not mention in this video. They *are* the pinnacle of the endgame and will test how good you are at building teams, since they both allow up to 3-5 teams respectively for you to participate with. HOWEVER you can still participate in them if you're not anywhere near late chapters like 18 and onwards. And Despite how little progress you can make in them early on, they're still a really good test for your knowledge of the game and it's mechanics. If you're struggling with making godlike team compositions you can test units in the Union firing range, and if youre low on resources and don't know who to invest into, you can enable scope lock in the shooting range to test out your teams close to their maximum potential. (Close to since Cubes are disabled in scope lock alongside the Overload gear you unlock from Special Individual interceptions.)
    Sorry for the long comment, other than these gripes the video is still well made and was an enjoyable watch, I just couldn't help but feel like your perspective was skewed from the lack of diving deeper into the game's mechanics.

    • @CDVermilion
      @CDVermilion  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I never dived deeply into the game's mechanics because for the most part it never required me to. The only lesson that was repeatedly reinforced over the _two months_ that I played it was "come back in a few days when your numbers are higher and you'll be able to clear this on auto". Even the limited time events' "challenge mode" never required a huge knowledge of team-building until the very last level, which really is just a unit comp check.
      Also, if the game is meant to be played when you're underleveled, why does it give such a nasty debuff for being such?
      Plenty of other games, gacha or not, set up plenty of situations that force a player to learn the basics of a mechanic in order to pass. However, I engaged with every facet of the game (yes, I even did Union raids, I just didn't feel like it was worth mentioning in the video because quite frankly it just struck me as a "burn all your attempts on auto and if your union has enough whales you win" scenario) and _none_ of them ever presented themselves as an opportunity to get deeper with the game's systems. At best, it would occasionally be "daggummit the auto-battle didn't target the EMP bomb Raptures again".
      This is also if you're even lucky enough with the game's gacha to make it to the endgame, what with the level 160 barrier and just getting the right units together to even have a comp able to challenge content while underleveled.
      So no, I didn't engage with game mechanics on a deep level because quite frankly the game took almost every opportunity it could to tell me it wasn't worth doing so.

      @EffingCherry 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @CDVermilion I get where you're coming from but you're severely hindering yourself from progressing into the story by refusing to learn and then playing like this. Auto battle while neat as a feature is ultimately the quickest way for you to suffer past chapter 18. And your argument about the game constantly pushing auto battle being viable falls flat in my eyes by the time you reach the grave digger boss fight.
      Hell, I pushed towards halfway through chapter NINETEEN while still at 160 and using an SR unit as my burst I (N102). I even cleared chapter 18 within 3 DAYS. Your assumption that the gameplay is shallow- while understandable, is clearly the one thing holding you back from being able to push the game's campaign with ease. Especially since the 'endgame' chapters (20+) often feature a disadvantage for me with lvl 200 nikkes above 10k in difference. Hell some people play with 30k difference and still clear easily because they understand how manual works.
      And one other thing I should mention even though it's not in your reply, is that you can skip through certain levels in the campaign if all you care about is the story. You can even take shortcuts and they become more common past 17ish iirc.
      I could see that (as seen in 32:47) you've clearly passed the 160 wall by now and have access to some of the best Nikkes you can get. I can see you easily reaching chapter 20 within a week if you just had a better look at the manual gameplay loop.
      In fact,
      Naga + Tia + Dorothy/Volume + Maxwell and Red Hood can probably get you EVEN further considering that is one of the best teams possible, and was even used by top players in the solo raid for the ULTRA boss back in the anniversary. (Sorry for back seating but I'm trying to make a point here.)
      And incase you seriously don't want to try to understand the gameplay loop (Which is fine, it's your choice how fast you progress), you can always use the cases in your inventory for more materials to skip days weeks or hell MONTHS of waiting if you really want to, especially since getting them is easier done than said. (Though I wouldn't use them until you know you cannot push any further in the campaign)
      Seriously, *if all you do is auto battle, cases are your best friends*.
      you get
      12 (2HR) Battle data set cases and 12 (2HR) core dust cases from normal event shops basically a whole day's worth that you can grind out within an hour if you drop 200 gems for the event tokens to play the event and get tickets from the levels and their challenges (with bigger ones like crossovers, seasonal, holiday, or anniversary events giving FAR more)
      The recycling shop from co-op gives 21 hours worth of xp cases, 21 hours worth of core dust cases. You also get cases from event logins, the daily general shop (that can be refreshed for free once a day even)
      You can also get up to 10 cases (xp or core dust, 1HR in easy mode and 2HR in hard where you'd get up to 15 iirc) from replay missions in the events
      You even get them from the dispatches at the bulletin board!
      And I agree with your comment about getting lucky with the gacha by the way. Though again, even when compared to say genshin for example; Nikke is still generous and the absolute majority of units do not go away after their banner is over. A gacha game is a gacha game to our detriment. Yet despite that this game still gives you numerous ways to do good enough even if you're unlucky. There's the Wish List feature on standard banners that guarantees 5 Nikkes of any of the 3 manufacturers that you'd want (Unless you pull a pilgrim), the anniversary gifted you 'Smoll' White alongside 3 dupes of her to help get past the 160 wall (and the half anniversary gave us Rei and her 3 dupes), you can pull 3 times without spending a single gem a day with the friendship summons if you have a full friends list (or wait 4 days to save them up towards a free multi) if you haven't gotten lucky in a LONG while you might have enough milage tickets to flat out buy the next meta nikke who comes around in hopes that she can carry your team. Luck is an unfortunate factor that comes with any gacha game, yet it's unfair to ignore just how many things this game showers you with. Hell when it comes to guaranteed units you get as a free to play, there are some that are useful even in the endgame
      Small White, Privaty, Guilty from the liberation, N102 the SR unit is a good buffer unit if you don't have any Burst 1 buffer. Anis is surprisingly good in PvP, Diesel is great if you know how to abuse taunts too. If you played during the Nier Collab, Pascal is not a bad healer too.
      Though it'll obviously be more difficult to run them, they're still rather viable and for those who're too unlucky they're a great safety net.
      Decent F2P build that's universal N102, Diesel/Guilty, Small White and Privaty, Final slot is a flex slot.
      I hate to say it but gstting stuck in the campaign is ultimately your fault for not wanting to improve at the game when faced with the slight challenge of being underleveled. Especially when MANY games usually use level differences as a way to push the player into investigating the game mechanics to see how far they can push through the story. (e.g Elden Ring, any Shin Megami Tensei game and spin off like the Persona games, Destiny 1 and 2, Diablo, Baldurs Gate 3, it goes on.) Doesn't help that Nikke especially is rather forgiving in that regard and even has a button (Battlefield info) when you're about to start a fight that gives you all the information you need to know about the enemies you're facing in the level so you can plan ahead if you really need to.

      @EffingCherry Dude, I quit most of the way through chapter 20. I was able to auto battle stuff _well_ above my combat rating, like 20-30k above.
      The point is, at a certain point mathematically your team just isn't capable of outputting enough DPS to clear a level. Rather than spending hours researching optimal/meta team builds to squeeze out a tiny amount of progression, I learned very early on that all I had to do was wait until the next day when I could upgrade level/gear a tiny bit and then blitz it on auto. It just wasn't worth trying to get blood out of the stone for me, especially when the only interesting fights in the game are the boss fights.

    That kind of strict time gating for main story progression is what caused my immediate burnout from Honkai Impact when I briefly tried it out about 5 or 6 years ago. Like you, it only took about a month before I started feeling like I've had enough. The only difference was that there was no perfectly timed super big event that happened during my burnout phase to keep me invested. Since then, I've always kept my distance from games that follow similar time gating mechanics.

    • @jepeman
      @jepeman 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This was interesting to hear, I played through Honkai Impact 3rd at the beginning of this year and what was time gating me was actual personal free real life time, despite playing couple/few hours daily. The game gave insane amounts of stamina and stamina boost items, the account leveled stupidly fast increasing the stamina cap constantly and giving even more stamina items.
      When I quit the game after finishing the story content, after few months, I had over a hundred stamina pots left. I even "wasted" stamina just to send the valkyries do dailies etc. It helped that the game story missions were done in both nice and bad way, that you used story given chars most of the time, so you didn't need to pull or level your own chars, unless you wanted to do the leaderboards or grind materials for grinds sake, to be able to grind better or higher leaderboards.
      Needing a guide to navigate the order of doing early-mid game content and read basically mandatory mangas for context is whole another issue.

Yeah time gating for F2P is really that slow.

    As a day one F2P who is in the end game stages, it’s not too bad in terms of pacing. Story gets added every few months and I’ve already built enough power to beat most of the chapters. It is hard to get past the 160 wall, they’ve given us 2 three star SSR’s. And you are also given an item to get a free core a Nikke you want. You also get tickets for standard banner for more cores. If you save gems for a few months and all in on one banner, you can get the character 3 starred with 250-300 pulls. It takes you about 6 months to reach the 160 wall, but it takes about 6 months to get 3 three star characters so you can pass 160 wall soon after reaching it

    also true to the afk game style approach they take to your resource, you can just buy them from the absolutely loaded cash shop, and that the daily free cash shop gift is practically there to remind you of that fact. (it only give you 10 crystal, you need 3000 to do one 10x pull)
    the amount of time it take and the slog you have to get through to get to the good part/interesting thing the game has to offer is enough to make me go "well imma just watch the story/event on youtube then", only coming back anytime the game give free pulls and stuff to give my gachabrain the dopamine it always crave before retreating back to my cave.
    for a game that seems like a blatant horny bait, the story and the soundtrack does have more to it than what you might have initially assumed. (the story has it moments and yeah a lot of the song is banger, event the time limited event one)
    but really tho if what pulls you in is the story and/or the soundtrack then i would just recommend to watch it on youtube and spare yourself the long and slow daily grind that sometime feels unrewarding due to how little it gives you compared to how much you need.

      The dailies could be done pretty quickly for me as well, but that didn't make them any less grating. It's mainly the combo of the game being a glorified cutscene simulator while doing them combined with the ever-diminishing returns that made it feel not worth it.

    Kinda late to the party and a lot has changed since but here's my 2 cents.
    First off, the 160 wall is a pretty big problem i would agree. (Started playing nikke in release week, only got past the 160 wall at 1st anni - but i had a hiatus and missed getting mcb rei). To be relatively "fair" however, when i went into the game not knowing what is to come, i focused on getting as much nikkes as possible instead of focusing on a few. The game itself strongly encourages the wishlist system on normal pulls (once you unlock it, every time you roll normal banner without setting your wishlist the game explicitly states that you dont have it set and asks are you sure you wanna roll).
    This of course doesn't fix the problem itself, but it atleast lessens it. The biggest problem is lack of information on this system itself for new players (have to gain that knowledge out of game), because if you go into nikke knowing the system, you can better plot your course towards getting past that wall (with mileage/wishlist). They are also appearently making giving mcb ssr's every major event a thing (specifically anniversaries), which can help push people through the wall.
    Second would be main story progression, especially as a f2p. It does slow down heavily near/at late game when compared to the start (though imo thats more just general gacha honeymoon period stuff), and it is certainly harder to get invested in the story when it can take multiple days between cutscenes.
    Jumping the 160 wall does alleviate this for a bit - once again it is persistent/returns in endgame - but reaching endgame also expands the focus of how you invest into a nikke, since mechanically, bond level, skill level, recycle room levels, equipment (level, overload stats), and cubes and their level also come into play and provide an avenue to increase said power level (plus playing into elemental damage and stage weapon type damage bonuses to lessen the under rec pw penalty). The biggest problem with this is once again informational, since the game frontloads these mechanics in the tutorial and never really mentions this again (unless you go looking), basically making you forget about the system/how to utilize them.
    This also ties into the recommended power level system and how it works. They lessened the penalties at some point, but the system itself is percentage based not solid number based, meaning that it's much more strict in early/midgame than it is late/endgame, which in general means that the "sweetspot" you mentioned in your vid also becomes more prevalent the further you go into the game.
    For dailies, the full process you mentioned in your video is far more than actually required to get 100 points. For example, doing 1 stage in tribe towers, 1 arena, 1 interception, etc is enough to fulfil that requirement, not to mention that - as in many gacha daily systems) they give you more options for dailies, so if you want, you can skip certain dailies and still get the full daily reward (like skipping arena for example) in general you can get your dailies down to 10-15 mins. There are tricks here and there that new players might not know about to lessen the overall time needed for dailies, but once again, informational problem and you are still required to navigate the menus.
    As for objectification of nikkes and things not being explained but being talked about like you should know about them, a lot of the "worldbuilding" aspect of nikke is delivered through outlets other than the main story. For example, Rapi's and Anis's bond episodes, lost relic messages and events (ala overzone/red ash). That isnt to say that the main story has none of course, but most of the main story is the character drama/story and the worldbuilding bits are really just touched upon unless relevant to the main character based story. The reasons why nikkes are females, the reason for why they are portrayed the way they are and not as 50 feet mechs or overlty tactical looking (albeit i actually agree with you i would like to see more nikkes like the Rikkes), etc are explained or atleast touched upon.
    You could say that it's an issue that they arent spelled out in the main story itself but in logs/whatever else and i would partially agree with you, but imo that's part of the incentive to "get involved" with the game itself and not only the main story/specific characters.
    (Also as someone mentioned but wrongly named the character, it's Eunhwa that was a former commander that got turned into a nikke and her failure/trauma is partly why she's so uptight with you.)
    The whole "everyone falls in love with you/harem" thing is common gacha practice (just look at the gfl2 drama), but i don't necessarily think it's a bad thing in this context, considering you have a relatively wide scale of affection towards the protag - from straight up physical lust, through tenuous romantic interest to just being thankful in general - and the bond stories are somewhat removed from the main storyline (aka exotic).
    For tierlists and whatnot and you rerolling for alice - im not a fan or rerolling but i can understand - Aria carried me for a long long while in the campaign (up to nihilister's chapter exactly). While there's a clear line of seperation between OP ssr's and not OP ssr's, a lot of them can be made to work if you build your comp around them. (For example my friend is a fan of guilottine's character and built a ehole team around her skill mechanics.)
    Following tier guides makes it easier to progress and can be a good initial guide, but if you understand/look into who synergizes with who and how, you can make even a nonmeta team viable, even in endgame. I think (in general) that the practice of just aiming to get godmeta comp via a guide and auto roll through from that alone is something that i think will influence your general attitude regarding any game and it's mechanics itself and make you less interested in them (though thats a personal opinion).
    All in all, i think it's also fair to mention that shiftup is pretty open with communication and feedback from the community. Recently they reworked advising a bit so now its 100-120 points instead of 50-100, and advising a nikke 5 times unlocks auto advising so you dont have to sit through advises if you dont want to. The new anniversary story event is also pretty rich in character based story and lore/worldbuilding tidbits, not to mention the (currently) lategame-ier story chapters. They also introduced a "loaned character" system where you have access to certain level 200, max skill level and decently equipped nikkes to play/push certain content with (another crutch for progression).

    Nikke is like a girl, they draw you in with that booty and make you stay with the story and even cry if you have a soul. Thorough selection and variants of girl archetypes mixed with a great theme and progression that keeps you wanting more without using real money. If you spend money you do it for the waifu factor but keep at it and you can become a seasoned commander in a few months. If you keep pushing yourself you'll get near the end but the story is challenging enough that you do need to think about who goes into what team near the end.

    Honestly, I can't really consider your review complete without talking more about the individual character stories and lore pickups.
    You mentioned how each of them were unique, but until I hit the 160 wall, I found plenty of story with the character side stories to entertain me as I leveled and grinded to continue the main campaign.
    I'm not a massive whale, so as a free-to-play player, I have always planned to play this game for a long time. And as such, I don't really have any complaints about the length of the story. Maybe its just a different mindset.

Basically the people who try to come in and complain that it isnt censored for the most part are not dedicated enough to play past a lot of those barrier especially if they came there mainly to hate on the game or advocate that the girls should be more covered up. In every survey i make sure to tell them that the girls could always be sexier or perhaps jigglier. They have been doing a great job but, insist on demanding MORE! like Kylo Ren in that movie.

      Sure, i'd also like to add that i'm nowhere near a whale and I have every Nikke except for 2, and I don't pay for pulls but I buy skins.
      1) Gameplay is much deeper than what you're saying. Team comp, auto/manual, and which enemies you prioritize all matter a great deal. Example, Alice is one of the best nikkes if you heavily invest in her gear and play her manually due to how her weapon.
      2) The deficit in power level does not matter as much as you make it out in the video. I beat the story at over a 80k deficit, and this was before the nerf. I'm currently going through hard mode at over a 140k deficit and still progressing.
      3) I agree the 160 wall sucks but there have been 2 ssr nikkes given away for free so far along with their dupes so thats 2 out of the way. You didn't mention the molds that you get at a steady rate that has a high chance of giving you a ssr. You didn't mention the other type of tickets from the standard banner where you can buy spare bodies for the nikkes of your choice, which will help you get over the wall faster.
      4) You didn't mention that the nikke whose design you prefer is a mass produced nikke and they are very different from nikkes like Anis, with a few exceptions. The nikkes chose their ideal body when they are being remade and if you think their designs are problematic, idk what to tell you. They're fictional, but if you think most real women wouldn't do this then you're being silly. They have parts and really dont even need gear, their bodies are much more durable than humans, sort of like 2b.
      5) You didn't mention that there are reasons that the nikkes are all women, you might have skipped through it or something. You also didnt' mention that there are female commanders, Maxwell used to be one when she was human.
      Theres more but you should get where i'm coming from. Also my man, please just let people enjoy what they like and stop spouting games as problematic. They know their target audience and know they want hot anime waifus. Also nikke has some of the most diverse body types and even skin tones in all of the gachas I know. How can 2b be ok but Nikke be problematic?

    • @CDVermilion
      @CDVermilion  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @Tee3001
      1. The game did little to show off its depth. Two months of playing the game and the only lesson I learned was "sometimes the auto-battle forgets to target certain enemies or doesn't choose the ones that heal". Mastery of mechanics might matter in the endgame, but if you can't get there in _two months_ , does it even matter?
      2. Your team gets a hefty debuff for being under power level. Unless you have meta units, that'll make it so your team hits a DPS wall pretty fast. The game could've taken the time to show how teams can push past that, but it didn't.
      3. That's quite frankly irrelevant, especially to people who weren't around for those events (aka basically anyone watching the video who isn't already into the game). The point remains that the 160 barrier is there and can easily bar a player from the endgame until RNG decides that they're lucky enough.
      4. The main story only ever treats a NIKKE's design as something that was decided on by someone else. Event stories I played through never contradicted this. They could've easily taken the time to show that the special NIKKEs get to choose their ideal form, but they didn't. Not to mention that the story repeatedly shows how only the Commander actually treats NIKKEs like human beings rather than just property.
      5. The main story never addresses why the NIKKEs are all women, at least not before or during Chapter _20_ . Once again: two months! They had _two months_ of main story progression to mention this, and they didn't. Evidently, it's not important. Maxwell never mentions she was a commander, neither in the main story nor her personal story you unlock for raising her relationship level (at most she mentions she was a researcher). Literally all other commanders or military officers shown in the game are male. The only females in positions of power shown are the Elysion and Missilis CEOs. Even the rogue commanders you deal in side-quests with are all male. So according to everything I had seen, there was no indication that there were female commanders (although left open as a possibility, quite frankly this is an irrelevant detail).
      I never said that people shouldn't enjoy NIKKE if that's what they like. But that doesn't mean I'll recommend it nor will I not point out it's issues. I never said that 2B's design isn't problematic, just that it's refreshingly honest that the game director said she was designed the way she is for fanservice, rather than beating around the bush with some sort of in-universe justification for fighting in heels. Besides, it's not the fact that NIKKEs are hot that is the issue, it's that they are treated as objects by the game (they pretty much _always_ fall in love with the player character no matter what, also some of the NIKKEs are clearly still _children_ and are still sexualized).

    • @Tee3001
      @Tee3001 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @CDVermilion I can see that you are just being dishonest and projecting your own thoughts on some things. None of children nikkes are sexulized in the game at all, if you see it that way then you either cant comprehend very well or you're projecting. It's definitely in the main story where its reveled why only females can be Nikkes, you just werent paying attention which is evident because you misspronounce things even though they speak it correctly in the story. I dont care to go on because this just feels like a waste of time. Anyway no hard feelings, you do you and have a nice day.

  • @gibbygibbstein7858
    @gibbygibbstein7858 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    The nikkes having tits and asses actually DOES matter for lore reasons. The nikkes still have human mental needs because they have human brains, it's already explained they're given a body they'd find ideal to help prevent mind switches.
    I dont know what it is about people complaining about Nikke's fan service while blatantly ignoring games like Azur Lane, which might as well be literal softcore porn at this point. Every gacha game uses fan service to an extent because a majority of their playerbase consists of men, and they want to appeal to that, but suddenly it's a problem when Nikke does it?
    "2Bs design isnt pretending to be something it's not."
    Name 1 Nikke design that IS pretending to be something that it isnt. They are very self aware as to who this game appeals to.
    Also there are no Male nikkes because the rate at which they had mind switches was too high for it to be considered worth it. You also have to keep in mind that most of the planet's milotary population consists of men, so it's likely a majority of the men on the planet died during the first 4 years of the invasion from either serving or being drafted. Nikkes didnt exist at least for a year or two after.
    I find it really hard to believe it took you that long to progress in the story. I also started during OuteR automata, and i was at chapter 20 by 2 months in. If you clear all stages within your ability youd have enough combat data and cresits to level your main 5 nikkes at least once per 12 hours, by chapter 14 your main 5 would need to be at least level 140 - 150 in the first place or you wouldnt have enough recommended power to clear the content.
    I find it oddhow you make a complaint earlier on in the video about Nikke "padding for time" by adding more stages to their chapters, but then you complain about not having enough resources to level your characters quickly so you can essentially bum rush story. The additional stages are there so you can clear them to get MORE passive resources in the first place, you complain about 1 thing that answers your problem with something and act like its an issue. Thats just progression, games are going to throw more shit at you and up the difficulty the more you progress.
    The complaint about nikkes not looking more like the rare units is a weird nitpick. Most Nikkes dont need the extra tactical gear because they're way more expensive to make, so they just have better technology and equipment to begin with. Someone like Anis isnt going to need gear as badly as someone like a mass produced Idollsun. Not all Nikkes serve in purely a combat role anyways. Cafe Sweety and Prima donna are 2 examples. A lot of them are public workers primarily.
    Not every Nikke needs a massive railgun or something either. They can make cyborg robot girls so id assume they can make more compact weapons capable of killing raptures.
    I think the only things you said in this entire video that I actually agree with were 160 wall = bad and all gacha games = bad.
    Initially its not that bad in realoty due to how many ssrs the game literally vomits at you, but depending on your luck it could be 1 month or 8 months or more before you get past 160 and thats terrible for progression, and is the biggest stain on Nikke imo.
    Personally i think the slow progression and idle style of play is a good thing. It means i can actually do shit irl without feeling like im missing out by not spending 3 hours in game using an "energy" mechanic. For someone like me who works 50+ hours a week the idle mechanics are great.

    This whole game is either about luck or the amount of money you pay. I'm not saying that it's not a good game, but it has a lot to do with luck or the amount of money you pay.
    I bought 260 tickets for the RED HOOD banner and I was only able to get one copy of it, although the probability of getting it in the banner was higher, and with the rest of my tickets I got average or weak NIKKEs. There’s nothing wrong with wanting more logical designs for some of the characters but lets not pretend like it’s somehow an issue that the characters are hot and then wanting them to be censored, no matter how absurd you might find it.

    • @Azrael_Terminus
      @Azrael_Terminus 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +23

      You've probably been downvoted to hell, since you comment was the last one I found. But I'd have to agree with your sentiment. I wouldn't even call the girls "objects" even if they are sexualized. Narrative, media and entertainment have several tools to engage with the consumer and then further the depth of the characterization and ideas presented through other means and sexualization is most often than not using what we call "idealization".
      Idealization is a good way to grasp the attention of an audience by giving them something pleasing and desirable at first glance, and then it can work its way better into other aspects of the narrative. For example, some can use the infatuation with a character's visuals to further make the audience empathetic to them or even turn the idealization on its head and make subvert the audience's desire against them. There are tons of ways to do that, that wouldn't be as interesting, fun or shocking it these ideas were simply presented in a realistic manner.
      Basically, dismissing something because you don't think its "realistic", or because you think it is "problematic", etc... Just puts everything in a little safety box that makes the media way more boring than it deserves to be and it even removes the depths and layers both media and discourse could possibly have. And honestly, it feels masturbatory to hear these kinds of complaints because they often come from people who actually think they're in a higher moral ground or are more studied and intelligent than the coomers, the nerds, the misoginysts or whatever the hell they're gonna label you because you disagree with them.
      The only problematic thing here is that we have so many people that assume that people don't know how to distinguish between fiction and reality because for them it is apparently hard to make that distinction themselves and accept that people being enamored to fantasies doesn't make them monsters.

      Same, that was the weakest part of the review for me and where he lost me. Still an overall good video though. When it comes to character design you know exactly what you're getting into before you even make an account lol. Is it over the top? Absolutely but that's the art-design (Yes, horny is still a valid art design) of the game and its main selling point. It lures you in with Volume bouncing around and a feeling of "no way this is a real game" to then hit you with the surprisingly high quality of the game. The emotional whiplash from that is one of the things that makes Nikke stand out.
      So many games censor (even Nikke at the start) and try to pretend that sex doesn't sell that its refreshing to see a game go all in with it. Judging from the revenue and awards the game has earned during its first year, its safe to say a lot of people agree with this.

      nobody has to create an obstacle course for justifying liking tits unless there is an actual reason why it can’t be that simple. It’s OK to be attracted to fanservice, especially in a game like NIKKE where it is a huge selling point, but there are valid critiques of Nikke’s designs that make sense logically outside of “i am afraid of seeing sexy women-“ such as the fact that some of these nikkes are given childlike personalities, or are straight-up children.
      On the whole, fanservice isn’t bad, but in some ways Nikke toes the line of what it can and cannot sexify, and it’s not “justifying censorship” to point that out.
      NIKKE isn’t a perfect game, and that’s OK. Some of its fanservice is well-made, but it isn’t wrong to point out the parts where it falls flat or becomes concerning. That’s my take, anyway.
