I liked some of their ideas from their past projects but always found their music to be too unintelligible and chaotic even though it had some good moments but their live was only pure hardcore chaos with no place for redemption. Anyway, I will check that new album out, it might be more up my alley.
That's my favorite part about these intros, they're always referencing something but it's almost never explicitly stated what, they're basically easter eggs
@sebas4951 Machine girl has never been a DG clone, in fact digital hardcore has existed long before DG came around. IE (Atari teenage riot) that doesn't include the fact that MG heavily plays with niche genres; gabber, 00shouse and breakbeat. To imply that this album is their only original sounding work is purely ignorant.
That was so frustrating because it's not like death grips invented the whole digital hardcore aesthetic, if anything MG is way more similar to 90s/2000s bands like Atari Teenage Riot and The Shiznit. Also who even cares if it's derivative? I can understand his other criticisms even though I disagree, but calling something "derivative" just isn't a very valid criticism imo, art can still be good even if it takes heavy inspiration from something else

I thought he'd just skip it, but it's a nice surprise to see his review and the score it got. MG Ultra has become one of my favorite releases from this year and their live show is SIIIICK
@Porcuspine360 serious question assuming youre not baiting, who is the not-stale version of MG?who is pushing digital hardcore in new and exciting directions?
Discovered Machine Girl just back in 2022, and I have to say, their entire discography has been a very wild, unpredictable journey. I cannot decide which album is my favourite, or which style of Machine Girl I like the most, because they're different enough to be enjoyed as its own thing (For example, I love their Super FREQ and RePorpoised Phantasies EP, but I also love some of their more batshit crazy ones like the "Because I’m Young Arrogant and Hate Everything You Stand For" ... Album (Yeah 😝) MG Ultra definitely feels like a nice blend between their more melodic styles without going too crazy on the abrasive, harsh and aggressive (But certainly still enjoyable) in the album. I guess if I had to really pick a favourite or two, it would be MG Ultra, for the following reason. And RePorpoised Phantasies, as that one was the first album I ever heard from them, which also made it pretty jarring hearing their other material at first 😂
There are a lot of hidden gems from MG on TH-cam. After being a fan since 2017, I still find some unheard songs from every MG era. Sadly, some channels who dug those tracks up were removed or entirely closed due to copyright issues.
@vector4725 Oh yes! I almost mentioned those but ended up forgetting to do. It's rare that I comment on a video, let alone making one that long. Saw Machine Girl in Nashville for their tour and I can say with full certainty that it was the coolest concert I’ve been to. Matt Stephenson was quite literally climbing up the support for the second floor during the small break in Scroll of Sorrows and it was awesome
As a new Machine Girl fan that has gone back through their discography, MG Ultra, in my opinion, is the groups most well rounded album to date. I have also really come to appreciate the bands futuristic sound and aesthetic, which when combined with the groups dystopian themes makes for something that feels very cutting edge.
