Hey man. Thanks so much for taking the time to create this series. I love learning about all these tips and techniques. Such a nice way to give back to the community too. Respect !!!
High quality production and very educational. Congratulations.
Dude this is some of the best work you have ever done. Just finished part four. Well fucking done. 🎉
You're the best SC Combat guide no dubt
Standard Controls:
Left Stick:
X = strafe left right
Y = strafe up down
z = roll
Pedals:
push right pedal = throttle forward
push left pedal = throttle backward
Right Stick:
X = yaw
Y = pitch
I've changed my axes of control majorly at least 10 times.
The one I use now is the same standard A1 is using except I use left and right sticks brake levers for roll instead of twist.
I agree that changing your settings sets you back each time, and also that any control setup has potential, as long as all 6 degrees are bound.
If anyone is unsure what axes to bind their HOSAS to, here's the standard, it's pretty easy to pick up, and makes aiming more intuitive imo.
What pedals are you using, mate?
@@karmabad6287 VKB T-Rudders, I think mine are the Mk iV.
gross, x roll, z twist strafe left right, middle pedal boost. lr2 to bind nub
Wow five parts, respect for the time and effort mate. Look forward to working my way through them.
Watching this entire course today, thanks for making this awesome resource available!
Lets GO baby!
I have my Tobii set up so eye tracking only highlights targets. It's a good use for that feature.
The more technical something gets the dryer right haha. Still a must watch for all skill groups. I remember that I first found A1 from these types of videos and if you want any competitive edge you want to watch these videos. Great shit semper fi A1.
Very informative, thank you! I'm still m/k and tapping is definitely the way to go.
I have the VKB gladiator nxt in a HOSAM setup and would like to change the saturation so i dont have to move the stick so far. How is this done?
I am wondering the same thing
In game setting under the Controls heading. You can change the sensitivity by lowering the values. I set mine to 50 for all sensitivity so I only have to move my joystick in any axis by half as much to get full scale output.
@@TomSwift-ev1ej thanks!
Hey! I would absolutely love if you could do a somewhat in-depth guide on the virpil software. I’ve managed to make it work after many hours of trial and error and finding some small videos in TH-cam but I have no idea what I’m doing at any time and when something goes wrong I have no idea how to fix it. Their software is far from user friendly in my opinion. Thanks!
Thanks for taking the time to help us out A1. I really appreciate all these videos.
The head tracking for the Eye tracker is great. Only thing my eyes are used for are to target on look or whatever it is.
wooooo thank you for this! I've finally started getting into fighters and now it's changing, so I really needed something like this.
Cheers mate. Looking forward to watching this series. Appreciate the overview / advice and your take on the flight model as always.
great video series, waited for such a quality, thank you very much ,
subscribed !
great video! interesting that you dropped the head position tracking for the tobii. I could see maybe having a toggle to turn it off but having it on is handy depending on your ship. ships that have poor visibility due to pillars or other details that block view then being able to move my head left and right a little to see around a panel in the cockpit is handy.
But in pure dogfighting I will admit this is almost never useful really. Its main use is looking up to see if the hangar doors are opened without using 3rd person view. The redeemer for a perfect example has a set of buttons above the pilots head, to see above the ship you can lean to the left and look around these to see directly up. BUT this is a pretty specific use case.
on another note I use pedals and really want to drop them, I use a warthog though so with no twist they are my Yaw pedals. I liked them a lot previously however I am sitting on laminate floors these days and the pedals slide sometimes. I cant really rig something up to make them permanent as this PC is used for more then just star citizen.
I kind of want to just change my stick for the Virpil alpha prime. but its a lot of money. My throttle is the Virpil which I had to replace the warthog throttle as it died and to get it repaired was going to cost 100 dollars... I decided it just made more sense to replace it. I love the throttle so far and im sure I would like the stick.
what are your thoughts on this? with SC getting more and more polished and maybe even SQ42 on the horizon I want to nail down my setup to build up a better muscle memory
Looks like I need to adjust my sticks a bit. As a big ship pilot, I haven't thought about some of these things, but it would stand to reason that a lot of it translates 1/1. You've given me things to think about
Epic video... I neglected stick settings in game. Thinking now I need these setup especially dead zone.
Spot on A1! This is the sort of thing we all need to get guud!
How do you adjust the saturation? Great video!
Thank you so much. as always you are the best at putting out the info.
I see the wisdom of turning off in cockpit offsets for combat. But when Im just cruising, I like to be able to move my head around. Wish there was a hotkey to toggle it on/off
This vid is absolutely awesome!
The most important video series of the year
Your videos always inspire me and peak my interest in really learning PVP in this game. This series is inspiring to give it another SERIOUS try. In this one, I think, you mention Saturation configuration, is that something we do in game or is that a Windows Joystick calibration? I don't think you clarified that in the video. Thank you for all this great work.
First!
Looking forward to getting MM in the PU so I can start really practicing again.
I think most people set curves because it makes landings and precision maneuvering a lot better with them. I think it's worth nothing that the no-curves recommendation is primarily a PvP focused decision.
I honestly never considered removing axis curves until some of Avengers earlier videos, but once I started focusing more on PvP combat I found that with curves it is much easier to overshoot my opponent just because of the different turn acceleration at different points on the axis. It sacrifices a little bit of smoother gameplay for better combat feel.
The recommendation is not a primarily PvP one. In all the flight sim games I play I never set curves. Curves fucks up your precision and your brain because you can no longer anticipate precisely the result of the deflection you're about to put since the result ratio is changing all along the curve. If you have problems to make landing you need to learn to be gentle with your joystick. Using the tips of your fingers can help you to learn the process.
@@killerxzone24 Using the tips of your fingers can help you to learn the process."
you re talking about pilot IRL using their foot for relax the body ? x)
Been waiting for an all out technical overview on PvP 🤙🏻
…still searching for that settings tutorial that explains every single settings in each category 😅
Keyboard+stick is a nice transition before going all in. And you will.
That`s what I`m talking about, Avenger`s Pilot Academy! here we go!
Getting the knowledge out, once it`s consolidated, enlist on the practical course! Let`s Go!
Personally, I've never changed the "saturation" of the stick as I like to have 1 to 1 control. Where as the higher that ratio, the less control you have. But in an effort to protect the stick, I can see how that could be appropriate.
Is saturation a stick setting or can it be change within Star Citizen?
I'm not super savy and would hate to mess up my sticks completely.
@militarymaster07 I'm afraid to explain, depending on your sticks, and their software it'll have a different name, but it refers to the sensitivity of your stick. For example if I pulled halfway down on my stick but set it to 2:1 50% would be 100 and etc etc.
Excellent video, the saturation portion was particularly useful for me with my VKB sticks.
Where did you set this? I can't find the option anywhere in the VKB software.
Thank you for this Master class of master modes. I'm signed up.
Just want to say that if someone wants to play with a Keyboard there are now analog keyboards on the market that can emulate a joystick input. I have a Wooting keyboard and I get really nice rolls :)
Shit I was thinking wrong about saturation. Thanks!
That was useful. Also, never thought to change my dead zone on throttle so I can twist up/down without smacking a wall in front or behind me.
Great video, mate. Been flying for a while and still learned a lot. Would you be open to doing a video on the Virpil software ? I find it quite confusing.
Thank you Sir! Back to School :)
Right now, I am working on re-engineering my desk in prep for upgrading my flight controls, and hopefully starting to get some real seat time to practice. 1% every day!
My brother built a beautiful new desk for me to spec for this very purpose. Makes a big difference.
Thank you for the video
Do you use saturation 70% on your z-axis as well? How about your left stick? Just curious. Good explanation, like the content!
Lets gooooo, thank you brother
Lets go! Brush up those skills, playing dcs aint gonna cut it in space i guess
@Avenger_One where in the Virpil software can I adjust the axis saturation? what is the setting called?
Within star citizen, not through virpil
@@Avenger__One Thanks man, appreciate it.
Hope one day there will be a full video breakdown of atmo combat, cuz I couldn't find any (not just on your channel, on youtube at all)
It's because it's really REALLY rough but I'll do one for you
where is the saturation setting, stick software? or is there a setting in SC
@avenger_one will you be updating your control scheme now, or does MM not change much in that aspect?
Nothing for has changed in my controls
Mouse and Keyboard gang!
Maybe I am misunderstanding the adjustments for saturation on Virpils. You say that one should adjust the extremes of physical movement so that you dont hit the max extents to save the hardware.... I am thinking I set the S curve to hit 100 before I hit the end of physical stick movement... Later in the video you say that we should keep a 1 to 1 ratio.. Just a little confused on where I change the settings to accomplish saturation.
I got a high qualitiy stick (Virpil Alpha Prime + CM3 Base) but still have a lot of stick drift. Maybe I got unlucky with the model or it's a design problem (the stick slumps forward after some time unless I tighten it and after a while it slumps again) :(
That sucks... Those were expensive...
Wow, that came outta nothing. Can't wait to get through the series!
Can anyone point me in the direction of where to set my saturation in the VKB Device config?
Looks like I have to just max out the right end of my VKBconfig curves so that makes the sticks not need to be at there limits, but still be max?
Cannot bring myself to use head or eye tracker after I fell in love with using VR headset in other games. For some reason Star Citizen doesn’t support view changing well. A simple setup of an eight way button on the joystick that snaps to a different view should be better supported by star citizen. It’s not like there is a shortage of buttons on the high end joysticks like VKB or Virpil.
I’m very new to flight sim games do you have a stick recommendation for a new player that wants to get into dogfighting?
vkb gladiator nxt evo. Its not the cheapest option, but its the cheapest option that is decent quality.
Vkb gladiator
Has anyone ever broken your virpil from Pitching?
I prefer your same setup… but my budget disagrees :(
Vkb gladiators then
Who is worried about wearing the "joints" on a Virpil base? I have to say in an my years with space and flight sim that this is the first time I've ever heard that one.
For the empire!
7:40 Man This looks much more fun then Master modes. :(
My analog keyboard is janky, but one day one could have best of both.
there are analog keyboards
Yes
HOTAS describes a concept of arranging peripheral controls on a pilot's primary flight control, such as radar, trim, autopilot, radio, flight management, targeting etc. It does not matter what kind of primary flight control the pilot is using, HOTAS is also found in vehicles other than fighter jet, such as helicopter (collective) or ground vehicles (steering wheel), So if you want to describe your setup of primary flight controls just say 'dual sticks', MKB, S&M whatever but these variations of the acronym HOTAS are difficult to tell apart at first glance and again, that is not what HOTAS means.
HOSAM for life. I've got 30 years of PC gaming, 18 of them using the exact same make & model of mouse. Giving up my right hand's muscle memory and hand eye co-ordination with my mouse is a massive handicap. OK so my keyboard is all digital input (on or off, pressed or or not,) but my mouse is already an analogue control input. Stick and mouse gives me analogue input on all axis. I found the transition from K/M to HOSAM was really easy and intuitive, and the real advantage is, my stick is beside my keyboard, I just move my hand and I'm back to K/M for all the non-piloting and non-combat ship system controls and movement. I bought a HOSAS setup for SC. The right stick is back in the box, I don't need or want it!
Too bad you didn’t touch on the new esp settings
I think a "Medium Hauler Foundation Course" might make more sense considering CIG's wish to nerf the fighter into irrelevance.
Considering that SQ42 is primarily based in a gladius, this is highly doubtful
