How is he this invested in the retro gaming hobby yet doesn't know that, and keeps blowing in the cartridges?! Some old cartridges like for the N64 literally said on the back not to do that.
There aren't many people I actually would recommend reading the N64 console instructions to, but you are one of them. You need to review the directions. Your inserting of cartridges into a powered-on console tells me this. Most people have the common sense to insert cartridges into an off console and then power on. But you somehow evaded this sense. Fascinating.
When I used to manage a Gamestop back in the day, I would discount the "brand new" games that we had to open to put on the shelf. Sometimes they'd end up cheaper than a used copy. I had a couple Nintendo collectors who I would make sure we kept an unopened copy of the games for, the more niche games in particular.
When you say $60 loss on Fire Emblem, can you not return it if doesnt work? And star ocean divine force and diofield chronicles are good imo. But fk gamestop for not having sealed “new” games. Dumb square stopping mid size games when those were my favorite releases vs forspoken and babylons fall
I agree to be honest I work at gamestop and half the time he's assuming it's coming from the warehouse when the warehouse sends out vintage products where as modern games come from the store
@AllHailShadow117 you can request a different copy as well and return it at a store at this point it seems as though he's just attacking gamestop just to attack gamestop
Matty the Fire Emblem Cart could be working, get some isopropyl alcohol and a cotton swab and clean the contacts real good. Theres a lot of gunk probably preventing good contact. I've run across a few carts like that including a couple Nintendo DS ones that worked just fine. It could be that its gone or fake or whatever but it could also be working and needs a proper cleaning
Clean the carts man. You'll have a better chance of them working. These are old man juiced games, you NEED some alcohol on deck....and some isopropyl alcohol too. 🍸 cheers 🍻 Merry Christmas
The AP is really cool for people who have a good collection of Game Boy games. Not a cheap device, but absolutely premium. It runs on FPGA, so the games are running on what they believe is real hardware. Plus, it has a amazing screen. They also have some adapters for other retro handheld games (Game Gear, Lynx, etc). Also, it is very easy to have emulation cores up to SNES, Genesis, and Neo Geo. Also worth noting that they have been consistently out of stock since release, and they are currently taking orders for shipment in Feb so....
Sometimes when you order online, they send your order to a store to be sent out. It’s called Ship From Store. That game with the sticker, came from a store.
The blowing the cartridge actuially works because of the saliva on your blow. if the contacts are wet they work better but in the long run it hurts the contacts if you dont clean them regularly. At leat thats how i Remember it from one of those disassembly/repari videos :D
Hey man I'm an ex Gamestop warehouse employee who worked in their warehouse for 2011 to 2019 and first off they don't check the quality of the products were shipping also if its pre-owned it's a 50/50 percent chance that they work or not their not scamming you they just don't check the product even if the case or disk is scratched also the ziplock bags they use are not made by them or provided by gamestop they are from foodforless I even seen my manager assistant run to the store to get those bags for old NES games that people think will come in the original case also other employee's will hold copies of games that work just for them to use not all the time but sometimes and those broken copies of games that people return or sell for store credit we just repackage them to sell again and if you want to buy games from them still I prefer you buy games before winter because some products get damaged from storms because putting plastic in cardboard doesn't protect it from water or snow and those annoying price sticker's aren't put on by us but the local stores put them on we just scan the bar codes when shipping them also I am not defending gamestop for there company practices I am just saying your better off shopping from a second hand buyer like amazon or ebay even walmart has better quality of pre-owned titles and maybe target
im glad i found your channel late this year. i love the content, and your delivery as a host is a very chill vibe. more dragon ball forever. have a good christmas and a safe new years!
You should definately invest in a bottle of goo gone... it does wonders on those crappy sticker. A local game shop basically forced me into buying some due to their super glue like stickers.
Glad to see another GameStop video. Though I would've preferred using original hardware for the Gameboy carts, since I'm pretty sure that the Analogue Pocket reads them differently than original hardware does.
@@GhibliNova Doesn't it read just the rom and save data? I thought I heard that it doesn't technically need the cart inserted after it loads the game, since the data is already in memory, and Analogue chose to require the cart be inserted to make it legal.
@@INeedTogepi hmm I haven't heard about that, but if that is the case, it still wouldn't mean the console plays the game differently. It would just mean the Pocket puts less strain on the cart by making a duplicate in the memory, but running it the exact same way an actual console would run the cart (in parallel as apposed to linearly like emulators)
@@INeedTogepiRetro Rebound should've tried cleaning it with a q-tip and rubbing alcohol and gave it another chance. Or try it on a GBA handheld and see if it works there, but otherwise, hopefully he gets his money back.
I bought "new games" games from gamestop in November. When I received the games, they were all in the worst possible shape. I immediately returned them that same day.
15:54 I think I remember playing this game on my buddies and 64 because he rented it from the local blockbuster when we were kids even this day I’m still blown away by the graphics from that time on the N64 meanwhile, back home, I had an Atari jaguar didn’t have as many games for it 😅
The fact that you got both Star Wars Rogue Squadron and Battle for Naboo in the collection they are definitely the must haves for the N64! And both of them are from the same developers, Factor 5. Honestly I'd definitely recommend you to playthrough both games and playthrough all of the Rogue Squadron games!
What is the song called used when the roulette wheel comes on? I live in Belgium and this exact song was used on a blind date show here from 20 years ago 😂
So I was wondering, in the US are games 'sealed' in their shrinkwrap at Gamestop? Because here at EBGames all the 'brand new games' don't have seals. They are always opened and the disk are stored behind the counter...
Did.... he just slap the N64 game in with the console on then hit reset? I believe that may be the reason you have to slap them in my guy. I thought it has a locking mechanism so if the console is on, the cartridge does not come out as easy. Try turning off the console before inserting then turning it on
I recently bought a "new" copy of thps 1&2 remake for xbox from gamestop for $12. It came in a gamestop case with stickers saying preowned and scratches on the disc. I ended up keeping it because they were out of stock, used copies cost more, and it seems to function properly, but it sure is disappointing.
CLEAN YOUR CARTRIDGES! Seriously A few minutes with some cotton swabs or a cartridge cleaning kit and some isopropyl alcohol is essential! Not only can it make the difference between a game running and not you also will not be depositing gunk in your machine. In an ideal world they would arrive clean but in reality your lucky if they show up at all or are factory made originals. On that note disassembly and inspection is essential to insure they are real.
I remember realizing the Legacy of Goku series had a 3rd game being Buus Fury. I played 1-2 so many times as a kid and finding Buus Fury was the best feeling. Awesome vid Matty, gotta love Game Stop or as I knew it EB Games.
Buus Fury was definitely the best feeling being it was the third game in the series. It was interesting to see how those devs were able to progress so rapidly
I bought a copy of _Dragonball: Advanced Adventure_ in a triple eBay game-lot a while back. So glad I found it for a decent deal. Merry Christmas, Matt! This Chritsmas tree salesman wishes you and your loved ones the best, brother!🎄❤️👍🎮
Blowing in the cartridge does usually work because the moisture helps the contacts be conductive. HOWEVER it's very bad to do, because that moisture rusts the pins and eventually will make it permanently unplayable. It's best to just reseat it.
Nice haul Matty! DB advance is a great find! Power Rangers on SNES was also super fun as a kid! Wouldn't mind replaying that someday! Merry Christmas! 🎮
Yep I just bought a bunch of “new” Xbox games from GameStop and not one was sealed new. Had those same crappy stickers on them too. I returned for the principle of it 😂
Maximum Carnage is GOATed. If you haven't played it, look up all the secret rooms. You'll need the lives in them to get through the game. Carnage gives no fucks, especially in the final battle
I get issues with the Pocket sometimes. I have to pull the cartridge up slightly or even have the game at a slight angle and then they work. If you want a true test just use a gameboy advance. Also, with DK, thats what happens when you nudge the cartridge.
Clean carts with IPA and a Qtip not with a spit and blow. GameStop should do that lets be honest. But give that a try and see if FE boots up. Just wanted to add in one more tip. Always clean the carts (If it's your first time using it) with the above method before inserting them into your consoles! If you don't you are putting decades worth of dirt, spit, man juice, corrosion etc. Into your console's cart reader. It's why most N64s have "problems" it's an easy fix though.
I would also suggest if you have the tool to open up the game boy cartridge, to tighten or loosen the cartridge plastic to try and get it working. I had bought Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga (cartridge to complete the game as I had the box and manual) and the game was not loading up. I loosened the screw on the outside a little and it finally worked after it not working when I tried it in the GBA handheld and the Game Boy Player. If it's too tight or too loose it may not work, so that may be a factor as well in it not loading off the bat besides the cart perhaps being a fake.
I bought a ds with a bunch of great ds titles for 120 on fb marketplace. The lady through in a box of gba games that didnt "work". Theu would boot up and freeze. Same. I bought so many games during a sale and didn’t test them within the 3 day period for preowned. But only 3 out of 26 didn’t load up. Ps4 games all looked mint and would almost load up but some error stopped it. I held the disc up to a light and there’s a needle tip size scratch on the disc artwork and that corrupts the whole game. But eBay is worse. I bought 3 copies of transformers devastation and 5 copies of umvc3. 6 of the games all had the same problem. eBay does no hassle returns but w game stop I had to email them and took 2 weeks for a response but they sent me 3 games cib. The ones I first received was gs case and I’ve never gotten manuals etc from preowned. But I was angry at first. Super common prob.
Happy Christmas everyone. 1 question. What's to say unscrupulous companies start making like for like cartridges that have the game on them but aren't genuine how can you tell?
The games don't come from the warehouse, they're typically shipped out by store employees from stores around the country. I always hated shipping out the "New" gut copy and games that were in terrible shape.
Didn't even try cleaning the fire emblem pins. If that didnt work it could be one of the pins is loose from the solder which can easily happen when shipping a 20+ year old cart. Easy fix if you solder
You people bugging out about him not cleaning with q tips and alcohol that's why they aren't working etc etc are missing the point. GameStop should be testing and cleaning these games before shipping them to begin with.
I am blown away that you wouldn’t clean all of these out with isopropyl and a q-tip BEFORE putting them into the Analogue Pocket.
I was saying that at the screen too lol, that may have worked.
I was screaming as well! Haha
Views man views! He knows better geez😂🤦
For real man calling a cartridge gamer a loss multiple times before even attempting to run a q-tip thru em is very annoying to see lol
The spit fueled blowing into the cartridge was cringe as well.
Q-Tip and Alchohol man... the games are 20+ years old. The contacts build up oxidation, and it is very common. Insanely easy fix.
Try cleaning the cartridge pins, that fixed my childhood copy of metabots
