This rant genuinely pisses me off. I work as a firefighter and have for the last year and a half. I put my life on the line to help others and spend entire days away from home to do so. Hearing this reclusive manchild calling anyone who reasonably dislikes him for being a shitty person nobodies who amount to nothing in this world irks me so much. I've nearly died a handful of times in the line of duty, protecting my fellow man. I have probably done more for humanity as a whole in the year and a half I've worked my job than he has in the 42 years he's spent alive. He knows nothing of suffering. He knows nothing of hard work. He has no friends, a failed marriage, and spends 6 days a week locked in his house pulling hogans, drinking gin, and screaming at people who don't know any better to give him money for the sake of doing it. It's beyond sad to think that someone twice my age has accomplished so fucking little.
Dude, thank you so much for your hard work. My father is a retired fire fighter and saw it all. From children dying in his arms to losing fellow firemen, close friends at that. Please know your work is very appreciated. I don't even know you personally, but you're a hero. Not even comparable to Dipsh*tPhil lol

That is part of the problem. He has been so spoiled that he never had to work hard or put real effort into things. If he had he would have been more appreciative. He is being supported by delusional and mentally ill people who for whatever reason feel compelled to support him. My hope is that sooner than later will snsp out of it and drop him. Then I want to see what he is going to do.
My job isn’t nearly as hard or needed as yours is, but I’ve probably touched 90% of Toyota vehicles that are in the nation the last 5 years. I help build and fabricate the parts of those vehicles. What I do may not be needed or be very “meaningful” but it’s a hell of a lot better than what this POS does every day, which is nothing besides talk shit. At least we work hard and have lives.
Also, when Phil talks about "better first party games" or "new games", he means games that he thinks will make him money. Just like everything else, it all comes down to money.

Nintendo literally sold handheld systems with small screens and 15 bit colors between 1981-1991 and then they relased the Gameboy in 1989 with only 8 bit colors and a small screen which was sold for 10 years and it was also the biggest selling hand held system for years. Its safe to say they know what they are doing but Phil will just call the customers fanboys.

5:00 Fiscal year and calander year aren't the same time. Nintendo's fiscal year is March to March, meaning we could possibly not hear anything till next year. Though that would actually give them the exact same cycle as the Switch. They revealed it January 2017 and released it March 2017.

There’s plenty of negatives to modern era Nintendo but their success is due to not playing the rat race of the other companies in terms of grafficks and tech. Look at how the biggest titles on Xbox and Sony can sell millions of copies, yet are still financial flops because of how unsustainable the need for graphic fidelity is

Yeah. I don't care for Zelda games, but even I saw ToK and was like "That's Zelda?! That looks amazing!" I am debating if I should even try to get back into LoZ games. Last one I played was Ocarina of Time more than 16 years ago. I never owned an N64 (wish I did) so my time with it was very brief.

I hardly ever played Zelda games before (not cause I don't care, it's just more that I sucked at them for some reason) but both of these absolutely captivated me and are an incredibly great time. As it's been said already, BotW is amazing, and TotK is even better.

Nintendo are so ahead of sony and xbox. While they constantly drop the ball with censorship, bad ports, and limited games, Nintendo carved a niche for many types of gamers while not censoring anything too hard, and working within a low spec system that lets them keep the price very low.

Not really related to the video but just something I've thought about recently: Phil is nostalgic for the past because that was when he understood (better, at least) how to play the TH-cam game. He could get a game on release day, turbo through it and make bank off the Day 1 inflated views.
Now things have changed and instead of trying to adapt to the new meta, which Phil never wants to do, he'd rather stagnate and complain how stupid the system is. He could absolutely be doing better with a few changes but he'd rather just be bitter.
This, very much this. Videos do better with viewer retention now compared to simply views. Sadly, Phil is not entertaining in the slightest and can not keep an audience. I bet half the people in his live chat has the audio muted and only react to the other people in the chat.

Speculation is most of what the industry news cycle is. There's is maybe a handful of people that could be considered investigative journalists in this space and, even then, they're getting it from second/third hand sources.

Even earlier, dont forget the game and watch handhelds from 1981 up to 1991. As for the gameboy it was the best selling handheld system until it was beaten in 2010, by Nintendo ds. It also had a longer lifespan than the Gamecube , it survived the competition from 10+ other systems and co-existed with both the Snes and N64. Its safe to say Nintendo knows what they are doing.

Seriously, some of the games that are more fun than the AAA titles are not the best looking games. Some look like games that would be on the SNES.
The switch has an absolutely killer library and would be more than enough for a lot of people to have as their primary console. The selection of JRPGs and indie games is incredible, plus you have all the first party games and franchises. There are so many smaller, unique experiences you can have on the switch. I'm a console gamer and between my series x and switch, I'm more than content. On my switch alone i have a library of physical and digital games that would probably last me a decade before i started to get bored.
Its never been a better time to be a gamer but like you said, he doesnt have passion for games.

super mario rpg remake is absolutely a pleasure to play on the switch and being able to play efficiently while having my hands sit wherever is comfortable while tucking into an rpg for several hours is an astounding upgrade over the old controller imo

Like, correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the new gimmicks innovating? What exactly is DSP's idea of innovation in video games? Just doing what you did the previous generation with slightly better graphics? Because to me, that's all Xbox and Playstation have done since the 360 and PS3, debatably earlier than that.

DSP certainly did have something to do with taking The Detractor game off Steam he himself did it or had one of his minions do it. Anyone who gets defensive and throws insults after they’ve been questioned is probably most likely guilty. DSP always gets defensive and says insults all the time whenever the finger is pointed at him.
I feel like DSP doesn't really understand the game industry at all. He just sees Nintendo doesn't make products like Sony and Microsoft and thinks it makes them bad. Like the switch being underpowered is a point of criticism I can agree with him on that but at the same time they work within those limitations and are able to make fun experiences. Every other criticism he makes comes from just not understanding what he's talking about at all or just ignoring what disproves his argument because this man is incapable of accepting he's wrong unless he has no choice.
DSP is complaining about Nintendo not innovating but he hates any games that innovate. That would require him to think and he doesn't want to do that.
Also, when was the last time DSP Gaming did anything important or special? No innovation there.

Look at a game like LOZ Windwaker even before the remaster people would flock to the game because the art style held strong. Nintendo hasn’t changed in that aspect and still makes stunning games. Graphics aren’t everything.

8:22 thats what dsp doesnt understand. Look at Zelda: Wind Waker with its cel-shaded style. It may have looked more simple graphically, but arguebly remembered as one of the best Zelda games in the series.
His worst takes ALWAYS for me are the gaming ones. I pride myself on my knowledge and ability to know about/play hundreds of different games a year. And it truly just makes me mad hearing literally anything he has to say about games.

I like that Nintendo makes "gimmicky" consoles, I'll play most games on PC as opposed to Playstation or Xbox personally. Nintendo does stuff that makes things unique even if it comes at the cost of visual fidelity.

I don't need them to be powerful, but the unique experience I want is a modern Zelda game that doesn't run like shit. I don't need amazing graphics but performance is key.
He's a comsoomer. In the Fallout TV show rant, he literally screamed, "Gives us something to consume." He doesn't care if the console tries to innovate; he doesn't care if the company is doing its own thing. He just wants everybody to be the same, to produce the same products with the same quality.
There are indie games that kick the ass of that AAAA game. Do they have the exact same graphics? No, but they are fun to play, and that's what matters the most. In my opinion, that's the only thing that matters in a video game.

"Best Selling Console" and "No Games" cannot be used in the same sentence DSP, I would think someone with a business degree would know this but I guess not, if its a best selling console with no games it is not really the best selling console or it is not a console at all, but in DSPs universe you can magically bypass these other factors.

I for a long time labelled myself a "Switch hater", because as a Playstation Vita fanboy (and developer), I was annoyed that people pinned many things that Vita pioneered, on Switch. Hybrid gameplay? PS Vita. Big, console-style games on the go? Vita. Motion-controlled games? Vita (I know about WarioWare for GBA but that was one-off, Vita had multiple games that used that). AR games? Vita.
But, big but. Sony with Vita did the classic Sony, came out with interesting ideas but never finished it. Nintendo Swich picked up these ideas and did what Sony should do with Vita. I am no longer Switch hater, if only because success which Nintendo had can spark Sony to do their next handheld right. That is the stance DSP just doesn't understand. Competitions is good and makes everybody do better. Consoles are now closer to PC than ever before. Nintendo must know that make relevant consoles means offering something different than everybody else. And they are doing that, so even me, who doesn't really care about them, must accept they are doing something right.
Yet again he passed up an opportunity to be seen as less of a lolcow by engaging with the game. If he played it on stream and actually managed to laugh about him in the game it would have been a huge PR win.
