    Good idea! So many of us quilters have these square sizes already from charm packs or mini charms, as well as left-overs- this is an easy and adaptable way to use them! Yum!

    Thanks for that tutorial. What a fantastic and beautiful way to use up those scraps, that normally seems so wasteful to discard. Very inspirational and as a retiree, can't afford to constantly buy new fabric. Stash here I come!!!.

    I’d like to make some yummy blocks using 5” charm squares. How large would I need to cut the blocks to make the triangles?

  • @stevansilva9821
    @stevansilva9821 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Love the tutorial. I have a question as a newbie quilter who still doesn't get the math down right. If I use 5" to make my 4 patch instead of 2.5 inch squares, how big will the surrounding square need to be cut?

    • @catherineeddy9045
      @catherineeddy9045 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you cut your 5 inch square to make the four patch, each piece will be 2 and a half inches. you are doing exactly the same as Susan is doing. So just follow the video. Hope this helps

    • @stevansilva9821
      @stevansilva9821 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Catherine Eddy Thanks but you misunderstood the question. My squares I am using are five inch and will remain as such. I need to know the size of squares I need to surround the four patch. I was just going to double to 10 inches which is basically the "formula" Susan used but wanted to be sure before wasting fabric cutting the wrong size.

    • @Tadi3a
      @Tadi3a 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had the same question. I have so many leftover charm packs and layer cakes. By my calculation, it should work. Have you tried it yet?

    • @pamelavalley4765
      @pamelavalley4765 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      5 inch squares with 10.inch should work mathematically and final square about double size

    Thank you for another useful and easy idea of quilt making. You always use scraps and no "fancy" tools, which is GREAT! Not everyone can afford to buy new fabrics/tools etc. but you always come up with great ideas with simple techniques! Thanks again. I will try this as I have heaps of fabrics. This will make a nice baby quilt as well, is it not?
    God Bless your work.

I have been making four patches as my leader and ender project for the past couple of years, just using leftover 2.5 inch squares and strips, so I have a container of them ready to go! Now to decide on the 5 inch squares from my stash. Thank you so much for your tutorials!

    This patch work is perfect for areas of the world that only have access to small pieces of fabric...some times they buy them in bulk from dress makers, and buy them cheaper than per the yard. I come from Central America, where fabric is very expensive, if purchased by the yard.
    Thank you for all your work, I think I am going to make a purse, 2 patches, one for the front and another for the back, because I am not a quilter, only a "sampler sewer" I just love this 4 patch block.
