This is brilliant, 5 years later and the guys in the USA are still keen. Fantastic Team effort! Big up all involved 👍🍺
This just seems to be the type of people he attracts and is able to be surrounded and supported by.
There is a reason we are so obsessed with this channel.
@@miken966I love this channel because it’s no bs, it’s all non biased testing with results to show for it, and he actually reads feedback and uses other people’s experiences to learn from
I've watched every video since your last trip to Bonneville. Words can't describe how excited I am for this.
Same here, this is really special!
One man's dream for speed.!
And we get front row seats.
Amen
Can't believe it's been 5 years though 😂😂
Im really pleased to see you guys getting together
And building it back
Wow 🎉🎉🎉
Im in this from the start
Following up the build
And it's way more than just
Normally content for TH-cam
It's a knowledge of information for us mecanic freaks 😊😊
Thanks for sharing this with us. I love that
You could try a flange and spring retention system for the exhaust to reduce vibration transmitted to the pipe, it's the way the race bikes do it, solid pipes always crack.
I was thinking the same, but also if mounted on springs perhaps they could rig up a lever and cable to pull the pipe out of the exhaust port a bit to help that initial pick up problem.
Use the ball joint system with spring clamp, separate 2 part ball joints are for sale from Rotax to weld on the flange and the pipe, hook up with springs and the cracking must be solved as this allows for much more flexing and moving. Also very easy to swap pipes without risking your studs.
@@Tom-Lahaye Ball joint style connections introduces a very unwanted increase in pipe area and volume which will impact exhaust performance on such a highly strung two stroke. Simple slip fit joints with spring retention have been used successfully for a very long time.
@@Tom-Lahaye I agree, I had a Rotax on a microlight ,it had exhaust springs and rubber mounts to cancel the vibrations.
I'm amazed that they went for the rigid mount pipe at all.
I'll be there running a Briggs and Stratton billet animal on a streamliner. Be fun to see who is faster!
best of luck.
I was thinking of making a 2t lawn mower engine, that would be cool :)
@@Eduardo_Espinoza Check out Cars and Cameras I tune the turbocharged 670cc Predator that we run on methanol with a Haltech ECU.
@@Eduardo_Espinozaflymo made one
@Eduardo_Espinoza Lawn Boy used to be all 2T.
They were the best cutting mowers made.
I'm not sure if they still are in business, but I am sure the EPA has had their hands into it if so..
I remember that my dad's supervisor, who used to do 49cc 2 stroke tuning for competition engines in the late 1960-ies, told the story that after one heat they've lost at least 500 RPM due to bearing wear. They indeed casted their own cylinders. I also remember my dad (now age 86) told me the story that when one arrived at the job with a new 49cc moped,....it would be tuned by the racing bunch when you went home in the evening.....whithout you knowing!
I'll interview my dad about all this...a heap of history is getting lost quite fast! 😉
Keep up the good work, still wearing my 'Say No to Camshafts' T-shirts too!
So dammed cool. GO ALEX, and what a cool bunch of friends! Have fun, and speed will come!!!
Lifelong motorcycle tech here 36 years.I had a Yamaha YSR50 with a cylinder and cases that I ported and a full Sudco racing kit and it hit 62mph on level ground with no headwind.I used to pass cars on the hwy and they'd be like WTF?
@@JeffreyPerrault-hk6xe 1990 Honda NS50F with a 65cc kit, tuned pipe, ported, upped compression, and a bit bigger carburetor. 67 mph on a highway in Canada, but I was drafting a tanker truck to do it! Without the draft, it wouldn't run over 62 or 63, and headwinds were a killer.
I was on the pit crew for a drag racing car, a fueler. For my birthday, without me knowing, our mechanic took my 350 Honda 4 cylinder, ported and polished the heads, tuned the carbs, tweaked the valves and timing, and switched to a rear sprocket with an additional tooth. What a difference! It nearly jumped out from under me. Scared the shit out of me at first.
I used to race 2 stroke 50cc. We used springs to hold the exhaust at the cilinder port. I would love to have a quick chat with you Matt and share some stories. Thanks for the video. Really good stuff.
💯 did ur exhaust also have an expansion chamber? ❤
Fun adventure!
I would recommend some kind of airbox. Wind rushing sideways past a bell mouth can mess with air flow and jetting.
Good luck 👍
This is cool, and such wonderfully nice and helpful friends you have in the USA 🙂👍
Mount the exhaust on springs at the head (flange bolted to head, springs attached to flange). Rubber mount the chamber before the stinger. Good luck.
Incredible! Brings back memories of trying to break 37mph in my restricted1981 suzuki er50....😊
Das konnte Simson schon 1960 in Serie 😊
SOUNDS SO GOOD WHEN IT HITS THE PIPE
hey alex. i have struggled a lot with these exhaust things, too. what helped with my mopeds is a flange and spring retention of all my exhausts. i even put springs to the muffler in the end, no broken steel anymore, no more foaming in the floatbowl and so on. so thing about it :)
2 Stroke-- Land Speed-- Bonneville-- count me in. Subscribed! Valves are for Toilets!
It's friday, i'm having a beer, and Alex just uploaded. Life is good.
Same! Made me so excited seeing a 1h long video uploaded!

Dude! You're killing it.
This channel has been a haven for my wiggly ASD brain.
(No engine talk at the dinner table apparently 😅)
Strum us a Bonneville song when u get back.
Someone please get this man a Vans sponsorship.
Surely this is off the wall!
Great stuff! A good way to get faster is to hang around with the fastest people… I learned a lot once just because a high level racer had to change a cylinder and he let me sneak a peak inside his crankcase while it was opened up. Be safe and have fun! 👍🏼👍🏼
I'm in awe of you gentlemen! I have never seen such great teamwork since the service! Everyone is dedicated to the success of this venture! Each input of each member taken into consideration without ego or attitude getting in the way! I hope for the success in goals!
This is gonna be good. Wish you the best luck with the endeavour
Been following this project for years I appreciate all the time an effort you put into filming so we can see your process amazing stuff thank you so much from central Oklahoma
Hi loving the effort all u guys put into your quest for the record. We had the same problems with our RC boats cracking the exhaust pipe. Our fix was to have a flexable joiner on the header pipe to the pipe, we used silcon hose with an inner tube same diameter as the header and had different lengths to help with tuning. Our extended length of 52mm was the sweet spot for our set up. We also changed our mount to the end of the pipe on the small pipe diameter with a flexable mount to help with vibrations, no more crack pipes. hope this is useful. GO FOR MAN!!!!
What a great place and wondered group of people ❤
When first watching this I thought, hey a Dutchman at it!
In The Netherlands we used to have extremely succesful 50cc racing teams, mostly fielding Kreidler powered bikes.
Those guys are so awesome for helping with this amazing project!
Hey @2STROKE STUFFING, Been a long term lurker and decided to comment with a really useful tip for sealing the exhaust. I use PC-Fahrenheit high temp epoxy between the flange and head. At first you may think it will never come off but believe me it works exactly the way you need it too. It sticks and seals at high heat but when you need to take the exhaust off you just need to a give it a little tap with a rubber mallet and it will pop off. I use this method to seal the exhaust pipe on my little 17cc helicopter nitro engine.
It is good to hang out with friends who know what they're doing in an equipped shop that you can bounce ideas off of and troubleshoot and get frustration and still end up having a really good time. That's what it's all about!
Super cool to come across that family of bikers in Colorado... ✌️
...and they aren't the blinkered-minds 'heritage only' 'biker'* sorts either !
But real salt-of-the-Earth genuine biking life- loving folks too, they're Real Biking Motorcyclists !! 🤗🤗😁🍦🍦🍦
I.E; *they're not mad about & only for traditional style US 'tractor'/'potato-potato' bikes (H-D S&S Cruisers) to the exclusion of other motorcycles types and manufacturers etc.
Please no offence is meant or intended to anyone unless they are a potato-potato 'biker'
Best of luck Alex, may the God of speed and rum be with you.
What an adventure. It is so inspiring watching this. I say: The goal is not the most important. It is the struggle trying to get there. You really nailed it this time, Alex. Thanks.
I'm from the Northeastern part of Colorado! Glad to see you in colorful Colorado! Best of luck! Love the channel!
That’s such an adventure-especially with good company. Good luck on y’all’s endeavor.
It looked like you did learn some things this trip. Hope you had a good safe trip back home. Looking forward to see you coming back and hopefully setting a record on the salt!
I have watched your journey for so long I feel like part of the crew. Please keep chasing your dream and taking us along for the ride.....
How wonderful to spent days like this working together like yesterday and hang out in this beautiful countryside and do some test runs with this bike and just enjoy. Should be the best days of your life!!!
It’s really great to see what man can do with a little time and the want for achievement thank you so much for all your time
Great video. Have I really been watching this channel for all these years? How time flies!
I so much like this video.

Getting closer to the target.
Re spring mounted exhaust.
There are a few benefits of it, one being it reduces the chance of a broken exhaust and it also makes it quicker to get the barrel off to fit new rings in in the pits between races.
But the number one benefit of it as that it reduces vibration at the cylinder head as the vibration isn't reflected back into the cylinder and head, and its a know fact that engine vibration in the cylinder head will cause a drop in power.
So if for no other reason than power output you need to isolate the exhaust with spring mounting.
TZ Yamaha engines had a pair of O-rings at the header spigot to seal that further help to isolate vibration too.
The little girl is fascinated with your accent I’m sure. That kid will remember u forever. Trust me. Lol
what the kid will remember is the number of times she asked for a bit of dad's attention and was repeatedly ignored before finally, FINALLY dad picked her up. EPIC parenting fail imo😬
she was saying " your mother dress's you funny"🤣
What you don't see is all the other times she had dads full attention, dwarfing the few times she didn't.
EPIC parenting win is my conclusion after a week there.

@@raymondo162You see about 1/100 of what REALLY happends! Still you make idiotic comments based on that, tells lot about you...!🤡
You know you are working with the good guys when you see a pic of Super Hunky on the wall. Wow what a vid. I will be following your progress. Good luck at the flats.
Cheers!
When it comes to using a damper to lessen the vibrations, you would most likely need a pressurized damper body! We often think of liquids and oils as non-compressible, but in reality they do compress, the amount is just extremely small, and on top you have the seals that are compressible. Therefore you always have a small "deadzone" in a none pressurized damper, but using a pressurized damper body, you can remove that small deadzone. This is one benefit from using a monotube damper design with a gas bladder or separator piston, but that benefit can also be achieved with overpressure in a twin tube construction, easily achieveable by installing a schrader valve.
Another thing that could be worth trying, is placing a balast weight somewhere on the engine as far as possible from the axis it rotates around, to see if changing the characteristics of the vibrations have any positive effect on the cavitation or aeration.
Best of luck to you and the crew, I'm super excited to follow another adventure across the pond!
this is awesome, cant wait for part 2 , great to see all the fixing and the whole process
It’s been a great journey over the years. This is a great video with great people. Wish you all the best.
It is great to see you guys out testing!!!!!!
What a great episode. So nice and talented people. Really fun to watch the bike get up to speed. That exhaust could need a good replacement that would stand the job. Looking forward to see the continuation in August.
Love the progress, respect the support and Skål for the Vitamin R! Raaaiiinnneeerrrr! 👊🏽✊🏽🤘🏽
That was great.
What a good mob you have working together.
Super fun to Watch the journey! Excited for Bonneville !!
One of my favorite content creators keep doing awesome stuff
Hey up mate thanks for the update and nice to see the team back together
I've been following your progress for the last.......6 years? I think about that. I'm rooting for you. I hope I can be there in person to at least cheer you on in august. I live about 500 kilometers from the flats. about a days drive. hopefully alot of others will be there too. You got this. If nothing else we all know that you've done what very few can do. Here's to breaking a record. Or at least making your own.
Would be so cool if more of if followers would come see him taking that record!
The AI sound translator writes [music] when the bike is screaming by. AI you nailed it 100% 🤩😆😆
I enjoy the theoretical construct of little motors and salt flat 50cc record's. Every detail really counts.
Super cool, living Our dreams through your channel. Keep up the good work
When I first met Alex, he told me that his purpose was to inspire others to get out and live their dreams too; to show that anyone can follow their dreams. At that stage his tools were not much more than a hacksaw, grinding files, and basic mechanic's tool set. Of course, for those who choose to watch just for entertainment, it is great for that as well.
This is so epic! So happy for you 🎉 let's go!
Wow. Amazing after all these years!! That engine sounds angry. Loving it
What an adventure! Very exciting and can't wait for part 2!
Best video you’ve put out in a long time. 👌🏻
Very nice video of all the tchnical stuff. Love it. 😊😊
I built a bike like this. You're gonna want to add platforms for your knees to rest your weight on. Trust me, it will make a huge difference in handling.
C'mon!. Rooting for you man. Best of luck to you, go get one of them records good sir!.
I hope you enjoy your time here in the usa , out west is just something to see, utah colorado, just beautiful and generally nice people. I know your on a mission
What a great adventure. Anticipating more successes!
I can see 60hz struggle, but anamorphic is looking good with that slight vignette, brilliant. I have been cheering up when you reached smoogthly operating engine! WOW!
Definitely fun and interesting to watch what that little bike is able to do.
at 25 minutes...I would have bet my life savings on it being Dons finger in the carb venturi being what made the engine rev cleanly and not the fuel line flexing trick. That was pretty interesting !!
😂 The state trooper has real problems to worry about.. You guys look good out there🎉
Was hoping you were riding the bike for the record. Cool to see you in the states regardless. Good luck.
Keep it up man you're chasing it down 💪
Awesome work!! Dreams coming true

Thank you for your new video it's great to see you trying hard for Bonneville if you get that thing to scream to 17 you should get a record good luck 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺👍👍👍
Great to see the band back together again. God speed on your record attempt.
Oh. I have been looking forward to this 😀
I'm pumped to see how fast you guys can go. Hopefully all goes well
I love to see grey hairs working on “MOTORIZED BICYCLES”. How I started my career as a MBO (MOTORIZED BICYCLES OFFICIALNOTO ) was with 75 full drill bits, no inventory of steel, fasteners dating back to model T’s and A’s. Took all summer but I got my freedom ticket running. What a feeling! I was 14.
Hi Yel.. haha! I made a 2stroke motorized bike in shop class, ca.1963, retired in FL now, have a 5hp 4stroke fan on a mountain bike, cost$40, weighs 47lb, cruises 27mph, 78mpg. Every boy's dream a bike that pedals itself..
@@jeffbrinkerhoff5121 Ride on! The need to jump on the least amount of mechanical paraphernalia and go (preferably faster than what you can achieve yourself) seems almost in the male instinct. I guess we were intended to spread out genetics far and wide and when the tribe over the hill didn’t share our philosophy we had to move on, FAST! My real life starting at 17 very much followed that pattern until it was rudely interrupted at age 22 by a beautiful girl a marriage and then babies like it was an assembly line (I’m from Detroit area but to use that analogy for families should be given some more spiritual based . My mom finally decided it was time for a trip to the vet. Snip snip you won’t feel a thing. They lied, my own mother. She still was the best mom and absolute champion grandmother. My mom and dad lived 3 houses from my family by design. My wife and I had it made in the shade. Life is good with good kids, good grand parents and good parents that didn’t stop parenting even though they move separate ways later.

oh, I've been waiting for this video!!!
For your pipe cracking all the time: I had the same issue with my honda RS125: I was cracking the pipe every race weekend or so (4-6 session max) I resolve the issue by "normalizing"/anealing the steel after my repair/welding. cook it at 500F(I used my bbq) for 30min, and cool it down slowly. worth a try!
man i kept watching till the end praying the dependable god's were with ya !!! and then cylinder problems. THE REPAIR IS UNDER WAY !!! CANT WAIT TO SEE NEXT RUN, GOOD LUCK.

Hell yes! It's running!!!!!🎉🎉🎉
14:14 Back in the early 90s we made Air-filter from Bean-Can and a thin Nylon-stocking for ladies over the can, sometimes 2 or 3 layer.
Or we just put the Nylon-stocking over the entire carburetor and took cable ties. there was no sports filter as far as I know, at that time.
We use what we had, stockings, sponges or swinto the metall-sponge, Stockings was most used.
There was no internet to look for information. But it worked.
Maybe not the best in compare with today's stuff. hehe.
So stoked to see this go down the salt!
Super!
Filter to garbage box! I was driving in road racing with homemade 50cc air cooled with big AL cooling. Piston 40x40 holex
Using a bone stock cheap 49cc weed wacker motor from china I can get 45 mph at 6500 RPMs by utilizing a 3 speed shimano internal gear hub as a jack shaft. Ratios are 0.75, 1.0, 1.33. Theres almost no friction in the transmision. Im pretty sure a stock GP49 would hit 60mph without a pipe. Short video of my whip is on my channel.
A group of us are coming to Norway Friday to catch a ship.
I've been following your channel for over a year now and here you are a mere 340 miles from me!
