  • Have you had a profound glimpse of awakening/enlightenment but you're afraid to dive deeper (or you don't know how)? Here's a direct guide to further exploring your true nature.
Links to Angelo's book (Awake, It's Your Turn), his TH-cam channel, a full transcript and audio podcast, and more episodes in our Awakening, Explained series: zdoggmd.com/awakening-doubt
    00:00 Intro
00:16 Could you have had an awakening and not know what it was? What is awakening, presence/consciousness, the role of distorting thought reflections.
8:14 Lacking a context in which to place “awakening” experiences or foretastes
9:48 The role of faith, doubt mass, and determination in enlightenment/awakening/realization. Distinguishing faith from “belief.”
17:11 The deep dissatisfaction and suffering (dukkah) that can light a fire to seek authentic, living truth
25:25 Can people with “good” lives and success wake up? The role of brutal honesty and authenticity in self-realization
26:15 Medical professionals, “successful” people and the threat to identity that awakening might represent, the role of surrender and authenticity
28:06 If you start down the path, DON’T STOP (here’s why), dealing with frustration and roadblocks
34:03 The crucial importance of the present moment (rather than thought or stories ABOUT presence), the mind’s time-based hypnosis
37:00 The difference between “experience” and “realization” and the loosening of thought-based identity structures
47:00 Non-duality (no subject-object distinction, just experiencing itself)
49:45 Suffering is the entry point, the role of retreat and surrender

After coming back from the war, I was all sorts of aimless and messed up. Wasn’t living up to my full potential. Started reading good self help books, seeking out mentors. Got in good shape. Took control of my health and my relationships. Then, I did some psychedelics. All of those things completely destroyed my life. And replaced it with a better one. Keep seeking truth in everything you do people. It won’t lead you astray.

I have pondered this very thing. Looking at the lives of the sage gurus of non-duality like Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi, they all seemed to live a life of renunciation. Other modern day teachers like Echart Tolle have taught the message accurately but charged to hear (much free content on TH-cam). Saint Paul did say that the bearer of the message was worthy of support.

It’s great to hear MDs talking publicly about this stuff and not try to associate them with mental illness. I had a mystical experience or after death communication 5 years ago and an out of body experience when I was 7. I am 51 now. It all happened spontaneously of course I was in deep grief at the time. I felt like I was nearing death. I had a spiritual awakening and kundalini awakening and my chakras were all just blown wide open. I honestly thought my body was preparing for death. It’s been quite the journey. So many people have been brought into my life that have helped to guide me. It is like the Holy Spirit takes over and helps you get through the most challenging time in your life. My psychic abilities initially were just crazy sensitive and now they’ve balanced out. I have retained many psychic abilities and have taken courses in energy healing and intuitive and psychic development. I’ve even learned remote viewing. All cool stuff. I am very grateful and blessed for this journey as difficult as it was for me early on. I continue to channel my journey and learn lessons along the way and teach where and when I am able to. 🙏

The waking equivalent of a lucid dream that lasted several weeks where I was not moving through the world but the world was moving through me. Where I was everything and everything was me. I was without a second and all that appeared to be a second, third, fourth was in reality but appearances of Me.
I could go on and on and no matter how much I say about it, I can't even begin to describe it because it was transcendent and at the same time imminent. It was beyond mind-blowing and the closest I can come is point at how NDE survivors relate some of their perception of Oneness, Unity, Love, Source, whatever.
What triggered it? Aside from a decade of meditation and consciousness studies the proximate push seems to have been a mind-blowing precognition coming back from a mountain pond fishing trip. I never bought into all the paranormal stuff but what happened is beyond explanation. I knew what was going to happen 45 minutes before and 30 miles away. It was actually disturbing, sickening even, and I cried my eyes out for an hour driving through the mountains heading home. It literally soaked my shirt...

    Hey!
Thanks for posting this. Your introduction was very accurate formulated and pretty much pointed to what apparently happened to me for about 17 years ago.
Years prior to this "experience" I had read a couple of books (The Power of Now/ New Earth) by a guy named Eckhart Tolle. In his books he points to the present moment as the gateway to the true self, the "I" beyond the false mind created self. These books helped me to realize that time and the sense of a past and future was an illusion.
17 years ago I was lying on my back in bed, stressed and exhausted, and seemingly out of nowhere I pictured all the young men that stormed the Normandie beach under the 2nd WW. Something "clicked" when there suddenly was something "within me" that recognized that not only were there no one on that beach, but it never happened. What followed was the recognition that everything I had ever experienced was a mirage ..... it wasnt real. It never happened.
What happened next is impossible to describe. The sense of being a person disappeared, and all of the tension/ contraction in my body vanished, like a billion strings were cut over, and my body felt like it was floating above the bed. There was only "this"; no person, no sense of being separate, no "me" .... only the moment. There was no movement, nowhere to go ..... there was nothing happening.
It took me 10 seconds to realize that the laughter I heard was apparently made by me.
I have never laughed like that before.
For the first time in my life ( its not my life, off course .... just life) something knew that there has always been this moment, just "what is", and that everything else is an artificial reality.
"What is" can never be known, because then "we" would have to go outside of "what is" and look in, which is impossible.
There really is no separate individual, and only in the "dream" of being a separate entity is there a past, a now and a future, and an experience of there being a prior cause to what apparently is happening right now.
There is no you going anywhere. "What is" doesnt move. Only the illlusory "me" has somewhere to go ..... to make this moment more satisfying.
"What is" is nothing appearing as something that communicates with itself.
This is so obvious, but the separate individual can never understand this.
..... so it continues its apparent hopeless journey to understand what it can never get.
    The immediate "now" is freedom!

I think you are just remembering being in the womb. No thinking, no self, no doubt, just pure comfort and contentment. That's what we all are. Just beings that by a quirk of evolution are able to, on a deep level, remember that state and long for it through our lives without realizing it. That is where I have been at for a long time in terms of understanding myself. I haven't been able to, or even contemplated the possibility of, it actually having a positive influence on my life and how I experience life. I am very materialistic though, so no aspect of this has any relation to anything objectively profound that exists outside of human experience, for me.

It's scary when I have that feeling about something as I have had beforehand and this usually happens when I least expect it. So I have learned to just adapt to what will happen and listening to your guest speaker this is a different type of being awakened. Physical and emotional as well as spiritual awakening are all different. And some people have all 3 of these.

Can you be awake, spiritually, not suffering emotiinally, but have physical disease and be suffering physically? I have always been drawn to Buddhism, and eastern thought. Studying it practicing it as best I knew changed my life. When stressed out, i tell myself you got to get in " your Zen state", (just breathe lol), totally believe in the now. "What if" questions make me cringe. I spend my now feeling grateful and finding the joy. But my physical now is physical pain and suffering. Losing my husband I learned that losing material things could never cause me pain. I do not live in the world of expectations of people or circumstances, but I am trying not to "expect" the end of disease and my physical suffering. Most of the time I accept my "reality" of physical pain and do better on those days. Any insights please???? 37 years Med/Surg RN still working fulltime mentoring new grad RN teaching them to breathe, until Long Covid.

Is that what you find when you stop seeking? But then there's nothing to be found because it was already there... 😳

Archetypal psychology hits us with what we all know is common sense but we can not explain and may never be able to?

Funny that this podcast is very much thought centered when it's purportedly trying to describe something that isn't thought. I'm lost because of the over intellectualization of the guest.
