    Bigger TB
    50lb injectors
    High performance coil packs
    8mm wires and good platinum plugs
    And get a tunner boom easy and you've gained 100hp that way for around $2000

    I have done the intake, cam and lifters/springs and rods, tune, high pressure spring in oil pump, new cats with rear delete. Next long tube headers and flow master 50. I’m shooting for 450

    I have a '00 Silverado 2500 (not the HD, so it's 600lbs lighter) 6.0ltr,4l80E transmission, 4 wheel disc brakes, posi track rear end. I added a K&N, Flowmaster, shorty smog headers, high output coils, and a Diablo engine tuner. It is a work truck and a total sleeper!

    2014 Camaro SS here. Muffler delete (increased my exhaust by approximately 4 db), K&N cold air, removed the resonator for an X-pipe, BBk shorty tuned length headers and a Power Wedge. Amazing throttle response! Great higher end rpm response BUT I now need a tune. Steel braided brake lines stop this car hard.

    IV got a old 1996 Silverado first up grade IV done so far was putting my injectors at the valves instead of behind the throttle body next headers those two made a big difference next I installed 21/4 inch pipes from the headers about half way back into the pipes that were already on the truck and that made another big difference my next mode is going to be gears this truck has 308 gears very high for my taste 373 would really wake her up iv also running true possi track rear with the help of a minny spool she will get up but with 373 or 392 it's gonna really haul ass but to be honest Im still old school and wish I'd went to a 4 barrle carburetor instead it stops a lot of people because of the 4l60 transmission but it can be wired to work with a carb still have to keep your pcm but the tranny will shift

    A set of long tube headers will do more then intake and tuner and cost less.

      You need a tuner to get the best performance out of long tubes and you will also need free flow exhaust and in turn more air so..

    Thank you, Steve. Just ran across your channel. Great video. I have a 97 Chevy OBS short bed, and an '03 GMC Sierra ext. cab. Everything is stock on '03 Sierra with 5.3 and only 85,000 miles. Will try your performance ideas out on it. The '97 has a rebuilt V6 vortex with Flowmaster 50s with duels on it. Love the sound. I need more horsepower from the V6. Will definitely try your ideas.     Mufflers are actually restrictive & cause back pressure, the best Exhaust Systems are X Pipe for low end H Pipe for high end. X Pipe has good Scavenging. Also I'll give you another major Upgrade pointer that increases power is Ported Intake manifold & Ported throttle body.

      @Green Bastard GPE on EBay sells ported parts, you can find parts brand new CNC Ported, but you can Port them yourself however Id do research on Porting before attempting, number 1 rule of thumb always Port Match

      not on a ls. you can add the maf directly to the set up and it actually gain a nice bit of pep and sound.

    I put flownaster dual straight pipes on mine.
    I could tell a difference in horsepower from stock to the new muffler and pipes I put on.
    I forgot the specific name of them

    So far I've done a 102mm lsxrt intake manifold a 92mm tb ,Cai, Texas speed cams 24 inch rims 3 7 drop, injectors next upgrade is long tube headers 🤣

    Have a 2018 Silverado Z71 with 5.3L, added the MBRP ehxaust, really makes truck more fun to drive. Not too loud and no drone in V4 that I can tell.

      Go ahead and tune the V4 mode out!!! It can create a lifter nightmare and Chevy is not helpful unless you’re dropping 2-3k in their shop. Google lifter failure V4 mode on CarGurus to see how many people have been screwed!

    Hi Steve, 5 years later. I just bought an 01’ Tahoe 5.3 LT 4wd. What is the cheapest, easiest, fastest way to get close to 400 hp for modern power? Besides catback exhaust, cold air, intake manifold, throttle body, injectors, then what’s next?

      Fuel & spark, bore up size of pistons cast iron sleeves, upgrade radiator, turbo or supercharger or turbocharge, sump pump for oil, take your pick and save your duckets for any or all of those lol

    Heck yeah, I have an 03 GMC sierra 2wd 5sp with the 4.8L and shes already wearing Gibson headers, full Gibson catback and a cold air intake, tuned on a dyno all I need to do now is get a decent camshaft and if that doesn't tickly my fancy the procharger kit is coming after that lol

    On modern turbo cars: Tune w/93, intercooler, down pipes/w/X-pipe mid exhaust pipe + cat back, CAIS and sticky 200 UTQG or less tires. These are the top five,...then bigger turbo, DI fuel pump and DI injectors for E85.

    Times have changed, there is no need for a hand held tuner, its not too expensive to get a "custom" tune. you also can get off the shelf tunes, and custom tunes for your automatic transmission. All this with an app and a blue tooth OBDII module.HP tuners for GM, MHD is a popular app for BMW.
    OEMs leave so much headroom on modern turbo cars that you can safely increase boost, advance timing, and so much more, run meth injections, sky's the limit. I have a bmw with a 4.4l twin turbo that comes stock with 440hp, with a piggyback tuner alone i can get 100hp and 100+ torque.

      I agree with everything you say. This list is meant to be a "starting place" and TBH, HP Tuners in the hands of a beginner is very dangerous. @Marc Ramos is correct, but if you are going to get a custom tune, do yourself a favor and have a professional do it for you.

    Got a summit racing turbo flow exhaust, definitely recommend for all 1995 and 6 Silverado owners. It’s a cat back but it makes the truck sound way better with a nicer growl to the engine.

    Can I make My "04 Chevy TBLT w/4.2 strait 6 preform and sound better with only mods.? I was going to swap for a LS. But being a work truck and lots of Highway miles Cost of fuel for a V-8 doesn't sound so Cool. The 4.2 runs good but it's weak and soft spoken. What is available to beef this grocery getter up!

    On the 5.3 engine in that tahoe, you dont need a special tool to pull the lifters up. The lifter trays will hold the lifters if you loosen the rocker arms and rotate them off the pushrods. Then you simply rotate the engine over 2 complete revolutions...lifters are now held in the lifter trays allowing you to remove the cam. But even removing the lifters manually, I'm not sure why you removed the heads....the lifter valley plate unbolts after you remove the intake.

    I`m thinking of running 2 1/2 pipes off the headers then have them merge on one side into a 3 inch pipe then a efficient catalytic converter with the single 3 inch pipe going back into maybe a Flowmaster 40 and exit the car with one pipe sticking out the back. No laughing! Do you think
    I`ll gain or lose HP?

    am air, header\s, high flow cat and muffler, tuner scanner, complete ignition system upgrade. Almost Hundred hp to wheels same gain TQ.

      @@widowmaker4097 depends on year make model of vehicle. And how much upgrading to ignition\fuel system is really needed. MSDS, HO COILS, +4 plugs, 9mm wires and looms or just use zip strips, coil packs, single plug coils, TBI rejetting very easy and cheap, FI system better pump all that's really needed here to increase pressure then. Depending on age of system and make of vehicle and engine size quick off top my head most this eBay cheap, or summit or robbed from pick n pull junk yard. $250-$600. If robbed always take multi meter to check resistance infinity bad. I did all that to my 89' RS 5.0HO truck block so thick walled block. MSDS, blaster coil, tuner stage 2&3, high flow cat and muffler both cheap one robbed, rejetted TBI, changed detent pivot washer, high flow ram air set up. Tow and go truck shift kit robbed th700r4 tranny, 3.47 ratio, electric external fuel pump increase pressure,electric fans oil pump all less than 1k total includes full synthetic fluids upgrade. And electronics to read and use Scantron scanner for power mods chip. All my own labor and headers ofc tuned, meaning equal length collector tubes.

      Gained not BHP but RHP or MHP slightly less than 100hp got 92hp, 2mpg better, 0-60 just over 4s, standing ¼mi starting 17s avg end time 14.7-14.1 street legal tires 122-128mph tire burn. Total mpg 19mpg

    You don't have to pull the heads to do a cam. Spin the old cam fast by hand after loosening the rockers the lifters will sit up in the guides.

    I have a 2002 Escalade with the 6.0 pro charger magnaflow exhaust catalytic converters removed idk if I should change my headers since I don’t have catts on it we remove the supercharger this year rebuilt with 928 performance parts and smaller pulley don’t know what else I can do

    I got a Chevy Blazer with a 4.3 vortec I bought off Facebook for $1,200. I cut the muffler off and put a straight pipe on it, sounds good for 6 cylinder. Plan on doing the intake and tune next. I would love to learn how to do a cam swap and upgrade the valve train.

      Just know that heads don’t have to come out when you swap the cam. There is plenty of videos on how to do it without removing the heads.

    Brakes are considered maintenance with some upgrades go to slotted rotors and four-piston calipers semi-metallic pads

    I have a 1999 7.4 vortec with oval port heads. So you think headers, open intake and good mufflers for starters?

      I ran without cats for a while. the exhaust at stop lights was overwhelming. ended up welding in some high flow cats on my long tubes. Much better.

    I've read and watched many videos showing a cold/ram air intake does nothing even with a turbo car, unless you get the vehicle tuned

    I prefer the cam to be the fifth best mod over brakes 🤔🤔 i would leave the brakes at 6 because the stoping part is important as well

    Great list. I probably would have listed a tuneup and oil change as number one, but technically I guess that is more maintenance than performance mod.

    I know most people think it's a ton of work for a new cam, would you suggest going to a larger rocker arm if possible?

      larger rocker arm means new (taller valve covers) and by the time you do all that, you've spent more than you would on a cam for a fraction of the benefit. Get a Cam!

      Just cam? Depends on power range of said cam. 350z power band is what 4k to 6k or so? So most power high end I'd go with mid range to get more out of 2nd thru 4th. Umm about 20-35hp depending on few other things. 350z had variable valve timing stock correct?

      Robert Simon All the nonrevup motors have it only on the intake side (or exhaust..but only 1 side) and the new revup motors have it on both sides. I think it kicks in at 3500rpm but i've never felt it. The tone of the car changes though, so thats my feeling. Either that or its truely variable and its always on..i have no clue personally. The honda ones are very high profile so u can hear them turn on

      @@widowmaker4097 hmm your turbo should be kicking by time you hit 3rd. Hmm you've got set pretty good, but remember you can hv weird effects from losing too much back pressure. There is a mechanical engineer formula that tells you everything you need to know you just plug in numbers. Hmm do you power mod chip and device necessary to reprogram\change eprom settings or MFG settings¿You can mess with your shift points and gearing ratios there even on the manuals. It does your cam bumps lifters variable or changes valves timing etc. And body pressure of turbo can be changed pretty easily as well if it's good one. Sounds like you just need to dial in. You did change your toe, camber and pitch correct getting rid of ground effects will shave time make faster cuz losing weight. You already hv aluminum heads and block correct? header is that weird plastic ceramic shit right? All synthetic in all fluids will give you more power, speed handling due to cooler temps in mine got 7-11degs cooler 12hp total. Cooler equals more power. Longer life electric fans electric pumps, Ditch spare when f'ing off or at track. Track only put 3gals in.

    I heard that installing a cold air intake or ram air intake can actually make your car run worse if it’s not tuned for the huge air flow the intake provides

      I won't disagree. A CAI makes the most sense when you have also done exhaust and a tune. But my point in the video is you have to start somewhere.

    I got a 🐈 delete and I did the restrictor plate delete on the throttle body, next is a proper intake what else should I do? Is a muffler even necessary since I don't have a 🐈

    Muffler only helps with sound. Taking out the cats will help

      Not many states will let you run without cats (but I agree). I ran without cats for about 6 months. Recently, I incorporated high flow cats and it runs amazing now without smoking everyone out at stoplights.

      Muffler adds harmonics to sound not really changes it. Exhaust tips and resonator Chambers, near cats looks like a second cat but isn't. Are what actually change pitch of vehicle sound. Like glass packs, cyclones, etc take on whole new sounds if add resonator tips and headers. Just glass pack muffler by self adds back pop and changes hz,freq, of sound slightly. Add other 2 and you'll wake entire block and never be able to sneak out or in. Learned this as a teen, switched immediately to flow master or cyclone black jack thrush style.

      Big block 396shp, with 427 crank and heads and valves and 454 rods and my Pistons +. 030 bored over for 5ci.i ended up with 422ci 390rhp, 450ft\lbs TQ. IS DEF NOT A VERY QUIET ENGINE WITH DUAL GLASS PACKS, RES tips, headers was waking whole block.

    Is it hard to take a governor off or bypass it I'm not sure how exactly a governor works in a car but I can only get my Tahoe to go 99 mph then it cuts off

      You can have a professional tuner change the parameter in the PCM.

      @@TahoeSteve I mean I'm not trying to spend a lot of money to do it, it is only a Tahoe it's not a race car I just don't like the fact that I can't get it past a hundred on the highways , I guess I'll buy a performance chip I seen one for $29 but normally if they're cheap they do not work like them nitro chips this one I was looking at had a remote where you can change settings and it is made for a Tahoe .. is the governor inside the block ? That's really what I was wondering cuz I did do a little research and other people was saying you have to rebuild your engine to take it out but most of all cars and trucks theses days run on computers that's why I was curious if there was a way to override it or take out a fuse something easy like that

      That is a very subjective question and the answer is impossible to give you an honest one. If you have the $$$ and want a project, do it! if your'e engine is giving you lots of problems, consider doing it - BUT it is a very time consuming process. took me months (waiting for engine to come back from machine shop, ordering parts, etc). An alternative is dropping a new engine in. Having said that - if you are strapped for cash and the thing works, keep driving it. I'm a crazy man dropping all that cash into an old vehicle. But i can't afford a new one and i LOVE my old truck. That's my two cents. Good Luck!

    I have a 2020 GMC Sierra SLT 1500 w/5.3 motor, I recently purchased a k & n black hawk cold air intake & Airiad Power Aid Throttle Body Spacer And Jet Performance Products 80mm Powr-Flo Throttle Body My question is Should I have my motor tuned. Thank for any advice..... I'm a rookie....

      Yes. The factory tune is not optimized for your specific engine just real close. Add the mods and it's even less optimized. I'd bet you gain 10-15hp with a tune, from someone reputable.

    I've heard with Cam swaps your mileage actually goes up a little specially with intake and exhaust

      There are a lot of variables to consider. With all the mods I have done on my truck, I had to add fuel to compensate for the air/fuel mix so my mileage went down.

    Best bang for the buck is some kind of tune. That should be first. Especially if you get a hand held. CAI. Exhaust and headers are in the same category. Turbo and superchargers end it with bolt-ons. Cam and head job, fuck it, lets do crank and pistons and bore the block .60 over. Then with your hand held, retune it.

      Almost always it wont because it will affect scavenging if fuel economy is your main focus try shorties gearing intake weight tire pressure and delete cats with x pipe

      after I acquired some welding equipment, I cut in 2 high flow cats. now running legal in my state. Not sure about other states.

    Had a question that not about mods. I got my 4wd light and stabablity system light on..i switched the switch first...then I changed the transfer module..then I took the motor out and replaced the electrical ring inside the motor. Still no luck...when I turn the truck on the switch lights all come on for a few seconds and then go blank..i believe it's stuck in 2wd and the motor not broken cause it's not making any noise when trying to switch into 4wd. I believe it's a electrical problem..any ideas what the problem is..the only thing I didn't replace was the actuator. Let me know what you think..clean all the grounds also..thanks

      I hate the stability light. I was gonna say double and triple check all your grounds. I had that same problem with my wife's Equinox. Had to take off all the grounds, clean em up real good and re-install. Problem solved. Good luck. I know what you are going through.

      @@TahoeSteve I just cleaned then all ..the only thing I haven't messed with is the actuator and there must be a short somewhere..the service 4wd light and stabilty go hand in hand ..you fix one and you fix the other..its funny cause I never used 4wd till we went snowboarding and a few days later the lights came on..irritating that calling chevy they won't tell you shit..come bring it in for a diagnostic..shit I've already done my own diagnostic answer a stupid question..i bought the car from you..lol ...not everyone can afford 500 just to know the problem which takes them 5 minutes.

      What’s the point if you want to cam the engine you can’t just can it unless ur putting a factory cam in it but what’s the point it’s high mileage plus if u have a 350 why not just buy a new one in tots a new cam would be the same price has a kinda high mileage 350

      If it's mild cam and your Valve seats both in\out and Valve springs and lifters are all still good. Nah, won't mess with it. Put shift kit in tranny as well and upgrade whole ignition system. Pfft same price where? Found on the farm? Complete top end and bottom end 350 new\crate engine is couple thousand. To end rebuild mild cam shift kit and ignition you can do all yourself over a week end or pay if look around bout$800-1k and plus numbers all still will match that way, to hv done.

      Mpfi spider upgrade, new cap n rotor, wires , iridium ac delcos, e fans and headers and exhaust , carbon metallic brakes for stopping power they grip good. should be good for street fun no drag strip though. I did all this on my 98 c1500 n it was a big difference compared to stock. Smokes the tires on dry road till it grips.

    Yeah those power stop evolution brakes are really good. I did them and they are drilled and slotted and have the cool red powder coat. But I about went through the dash after switching from stock to those

    I'm just starting to get in to this type of stuff. I have a 2005 Silverado and am wanting more horse power but without sacrificing on mileage to much or at all if possible. I also don't want it to be to loud. I do like quieter trucks, personally. Any suggestions or am I asking to much?

      Ls 5.3/6.0 swap into it. Throttle body, tune, headers, electric fan, cold air, and maybe some random shit like a toolbox in the back, or fender flares. Just for looks

      The one I got was Comp Cam 54-451-11; Dur @ .050 - 208/212; LOB115; lift .554/.558 It's been a while but i think it was $375 ish
