Just pointing out the obvious that this video is about how Timex watches are assembled but I clicked because I thought I would see how they are manufactured.
I am a huge Timex fan and collector, and am a proud American and think the American Documents watch series are beautiful, but paying $450 for a Quartz is a bit out of line. Having said that I still might do it. Yes, I'm addicted to collecting Timex. I currently own 30 plus. For the record I have nothing against Quartz watches. The watch I wear most is the Q Timex Coke Bezel. However, I own 4 Marlins and I'm glad Timex is making automatics and mechanical watches again.
I know that huge Timex factory in Cebu, Philippines and of course Baddi in India. They production costs are very low. Very very low! The same in India. You can check out.
Actually the American Documents series is made of US sourced parts as well as assembled in the USA. The only part that isn't American made is the Swiss movement because according to their website "there are no watch movements made with American parts that meet out standards yet". Which is a shame, considering that when the railroads were first popping up, American watches were the go-to for accuracy.
Just took a look at the watch on their site. $500 for a Timex? I mean sure, it's got a Swiss movement, but it's still a quartz and it's not even a sapphire crystal, they are using some sort of Gorilla glass. I think Timex has been associated with Chinese made prices for way too long to justify this price range this quickly. Price it at $200 would be more reasonable. In the $500+ price range, I would just look at something like a Hamilton Automatic
Insider usually does excellent videos but this looks like its made just for laughs. I am not going to dislike it coz it made me laugh during stressed out session.
all parts is made in the USA in this series, and everything is assembled in the USA. The only thing that isn't American is the movement, which is swiss.
@@FriedMuffin0 The movement is *mostly* Swiss. Just barely Swiss enough to meet the legal definition of "Swiss Movement," meaning it's a Chinese ebauch finished in Switzerland. And while the case and stem is turned in the US, the steel itself is Chinese. If you want an actual all-US made Timex, you'll have to go to eBay and find a Marlin or Mercury manufactured prior to 1980. And guess what? They're actually mechanical movements instead of quartz, and they won't run you much over $40, unlike these overpriced $500 monstrosities.
Not weird at all since the device does tell time. A watch just simplifies the process, looks good as accessory, and a number of them(chronograph, divers, and etc) makes timing tasks/events easier than using the phone. Also there are back stories to many watch designs which are fun things to learn and appreciate.
Wow! Congrats Insider on your new math typewriter celluloid! It's correctness of words makes me feel like I in kid school! Maybe page word understand first before put math typewriter celluloid next time!
The "Made in America" is deceptive because they are using Swiss movements. In order words, they are using ETA and/or Sellita movements to assemble their watches. There are plenty of other watch companies around the world using generic Swiss movements for their watches and they are nothing special at all. They are more about design and marketing rather than watchmaking and mechanical engineering.
Well everything is made and assembled in America. The only thing that isn't American is the movement, which is swiss. They clearly mark it and distinguish it from one another on the dial. Maybe some day someone will make a good American made movement, but it takes a lot of time, research, and money for that.
Wow. I’ve seen D grade high school projects with more research and effort than what was put into this video. The amount of mistakes and lack of terminology used was just plain laziness.
After watching a couple minutes I realized that I was losing the knowledge of watches I already had going into it. Very poor research on the part of the author.
So they PUT DIALS and "case up" the watch. And then it's like ONLY $1500 JUST BECAUSE they spent 5 minutes assembling THE LAST BITS that are ALWAYS done by hand ANYWAY. Even in Switzerland and Japan. Nobody puts glass in NOT manually except for acrylic. Because that WON'T shatter easily and is usually reserved for digital watches. YOU WANT A REAL AMERICAN WATCH, BUY A PELTON. Bracelet all done TOTALLY in American by ONE GUY in a workshop. NO ROBOTS.
@Christopher Schuster That it's automatic doesn't mean that the watch is better. For 30 you can also get a timex or a casio with a cheaper movement but better quality than a chinese auto.
No information, would be better than this poorly produced, idiots version. Did no one at Timex tell you the "motor" of a watch is called a 'movement'?!
someone is giving me a tips, if you want to buy a watch, never buy from big owned company like LVMH, Kering, Franck Muller, Timex, Seiko, Swatch, Citizen etc. Always prefer a family/small owned like Patel Philippe, Rolex, Oris, Fortis Uhren, Ernest Borel, Casio or ACHI member (Académie Horlogère des Créateurs Indépendants). Some of my favourite ACHI watchmaker is Vincent Calabrese (Switzerland), Elysee, Nomos Glashütte, Rainer Nienaber (Germany), Maison Celadon (China) and Konstantin Chaykin (Russia)..

I heavily doubt it. Timex are all arround the globe and its cheap. How much will it cost to produce millions of timex watches? How many watch maker they have to accomodate millions of watches? Slow process x high demand ÷ cheap price = unlikely
Wow! Using stock images from an automatic movement for a quartz movement! Great Job!
Wow.... U r right.... Amazing
I was thinking the exact same thing. Only excuse I could see them using is “Timex manufactures some automatic watches as well”

This video is severely under nutritioned with respect to knowledge about watches
They called the movement 'The motor of the watch'

They should feature the manufacturing process in Cebu, Philippines since most of the production came from there.
The motor? The glass? How about the movement and the crystal?
Who researched this piece? A three year old?
Well Timex is using gorilla glass for this specific watch.
@@FriedMuffin0 Regardless of the material it's made from, the correct term is still crystal.

@@chanjohan4894 Grand Seiko?
It's 500 because American manufacturing costs so much. When you buy this watch, you're buying mostly into an ideal.
Also, for years they've been making Automatics and mechanicals, many made in Japan or in Indonesia. They don't tend to make watches actually in China.
It's good to see America still make something

Well okay they've been trying to manufacture a reliable watch that's made in the USA, or assembled in the USA. No problem. I'm buying it.
What name series this ?
Beautiful watch, but a bit too large at 41 mm as you can see on the technician's wrist. Wish the American Documents were a 38 or 39 mm instead.
They showed b roll of an automatic watch despite showing how a quarts watch is made.
Great video nevertheless

Why do they show videos of mostly mechanical watches without explaining the difference between quartz and mechanical?
How do yall have b-roll of an automatic watch but the watch it self is a quartz???
When we say handmade, we mean hand assembled because the actual parts are precision machine made, right?
The "Made in America" is deceptive because they are using Swiss movements. In order words, they are using ETA and/or Sellita movements to assemble their watches. Quartz watches are great and that's the only thing you will get under 50
@Christopher Schuster Name a watch with a mechanical movement under 50 that has a greater build quality than a quartz watch for the same price.

We see absolutely nothing about how watches are made in this production. Abysmally disappointing.
This tells practically nothing about how the watch is made. All it shows is final assembly. Thumbs down.
