Interesting! I've been living in Marche Italy for ten years, since I ditched the city life and high heels and moved out of London UK to here..I bought a very small old stone house on the mountains..... it was very cheap but sadly no land..though I have a use of a big plot nearby, belongs to friends, where i grow my food and keep lots of chickens for eggs to sell...goats are coming soon... As you may know it's almost impossible to get a job here but i don't have big expenses..as i live off grid but no solar panels...just a tiny portable one to charge a tiny power bank to charge my old mobile phone. I also don't have a car and live alone...I preserve all of my food, mainly through fermenting or dehydrating...I forge and barter with local small organic farms nearby..no money but I eat like a Queen 🥰😊.. if I may ask, are you north or south of Marche? I guess you are more into the south of Marche, as I see hills...where I live it's mountains..good luck , it's hard work but so worth it. 🤞👋
That sounds like a great adventure and a lovely story. I would love to learn more about food and foraging, but one thing at a time. My neighbours tell me that the bottom of my field gets the most amazing mushrooms - they come and pick them so that they don't go to waste. I am near Corinaldo which is more North. Cheers from Atlanta, GA. Somehow, this video popped up in my feed. Your style is very different from all of the other copy cat, bough home in Italy, remodel channels. Which is a good thing. Keep us posted. Many of us enjoy the details in what it takes to do the work. Thanks for posting.

Great video , what’s cool about all the finds in tue garden is most can be reused , oil drums for burning stuff , free wheelbarrow , old bedstead , good for drying fruit etc on in the sun 👍
Hi @vincenash1358 There is a lot that I am saving to be reused but there is a lot that is too far gone and rotten that is being scrapped and recycled.👍
I secretly been plotting my sweet escape from NYC to Italy to by a beautiful little Homestead in Italy. I got about another five years of saving before I can make the plunge, I’m only 43. I just subscribed to your channel because of this video. Congratulations my friend and continue to share your beautiful journey with us.
Before starting such an adventure we always imagine it so romantic... but, then, day by day, it's time to discover how hard it is all that work being done alone with barely any heavy tools. We learn to think twice before any move of a finger - because planning the activity and creating the best solutions for everything makes a huge difference on how many problems we can solve in a given time. An, yes, use gloves. Always use gloves - protecting your hands is particularly important if you live alone and it also improves your productivity a lot. Thanks for your video, keep going!
Well done Richard, I lived for a year as a student in Urbino at the other end of the region in 1990-91 and loved it. Good luck and looking forward to seeing your next instalment.

My mother is Swedish. My father's parents are both from Marche. My grandfather came to the U.S. from Montalto as a young teen & my grandmother came as a child from San Benedetto. I've been to Marche twice visiting their home towns & have thought about retiring there a few times..
I was a regular visitor to Magione back in 2005, looks like you have your dream house, gorgeous rolling farm land, just like here in North Yorkshire, all the best on your venture.. ive subscribed and will enjoy watching!!
We want to move overseas and have been looking at , Italy as a possible location. Your place is beautiful! Love the privacy and peace! Happy to of found your channel.
Just have loads of cash for renovation, use local labour or you may have problems and look thoroughly into the legal aspects involved in ownership, taxation etc or you may have a lemon on your hands. For example in Spain the country owns the land and if they want to put a road through your house, they can!
Hi Derek, The budget is tight so I will have to take on a lot myself. Although this is only my first purchase in Italy I can say that the buying process and legal side was very professional and organised. So far, so good - but I get what you are saying. It feels a solid purchase (2 years in now).

Hello. Thank you for being so kind. The ladder - it is very useaful. I bought mine a few years ago on ebay (I should say that I have no affiliations set up so this is a pure recomendation). It was listed as the following - Xtend & Climb 1303-050 ProSeries Heavy Duty Telescopic Aluminium Ladder. It is showing as sold out from the company that I bought from but there are many still on there for sale. I paid £100 for it a few years ago.

They make a mulching brush blade that is basically a flat bar that turns down at 90 degrees at the end edges that is perfect for brambles and small trees / bushes. I have a lot of woodland in rural Ky and I use it on my fence line. It really makes all the difference. I can clear an area the size of a van in a few minutes and all that’s left is mulch like everything went thru a shredder . I call it the spinning blade of death.
Hello @rexmundi8154 I tried what I thought was a mulching brish when taking on those over head height beauties. Is that blade the one you mean? The kickback from a blade like that, when I hit what I cannot see hidden, is brutal though. I try a different blade, which I will show in a few videos time, that I feel safer with. I need a shredder! It is on the purhcase list. Thanks for the tips. I really appreciate it.
@@threeacresofmarche the one I use is the Oregon 295504-0 on a Stihl weed eater with the handlebar control and sling. You need to wear sturdy clothes and shin / face guards because the blade can really sling debris at high velocity. I use mine right up against stone walls with no problem. The blade it very heavy and you can run it at slower speeds and it still cuts great. I’d put the money towards a high quality weed eater like a Stihl model FS-111 with the handlebars that let you hold it with both hands over a dedicated mulcher / shredder. You won’t use the mulcher much after you get the area cleared but the weed eater will be something you use forever. I wish id figured this out years ago. I had dozens of cheap weed eaters over the years and buying the FS-111 was the best thing I ever did. I’ve used it in heavy brush for over 3 years and it’s still going strong. With the mulching blade on the weed eater, you start at the top and come down on it until you can see more of the underneath. If you cut at the base, everything falls over and obscures the ground and the long stems get all caught up in everything. Mulching from the top down turns the stems to tiny pieces. I really need to make a video about it.
@rexmundi8154 Thank you. Great advice. I will get a chipper/shredder as there are alwys plenty of cuts from the olive trees that are not any good for fire wood etc. Thanks for the tips. These videos are a little behind real time so it may take a few more to show how I tackled thes beasts! They will no doubt come back this year so I will invest in the kit! Thanks again.
you are lucky the house was empty!!! I live north of Italy, most of the time people sell their houses AS IT IS... with the old furniture, the old clothings, you have to sort it out, throw it out, it takes time!!! plus it doesn't allow you to see behing the furniture and see the conditions of the walls for mold and other problems... Good luck in your new adventure!
HI @sophialuypaert-vediclife4ever Thank you. The house being clear was helfpul, even though my kitchen water has to be walked from the shower room....I just wish they would have cleared those barns also! 😂 I hope you found some treasures to keep.🤞
i currently rent an apartment in mid town Toronto, but spent 17 years in St.Lucia, West Indies; i bought 1/4 acre there and built a small concrete house on a stepped foundation, and a flat concrete roof; when the house was finished and i moved in, it was bare and plain, but the house and land were already paid in full; i clearly remember the feeling of being a 'man' for the first time in my life ie not renting, and knowing that i could lose my job, but wouldn't be HOMELESS...there is nothing like owning land vs renting (my paternal grandparents were from Pomarico in the south, married there in 1901, then emigrated to New York City, returned to Italy then moved back to NewYork, then Toronto in 1905 and settled there)
You’re digging out some cool yard art. Every time I clear an overgrown area on our family farm in US that’s been in family for 150 years I run into treasures. They never threw anything away. I find things I remember from childhood clearing the property for farming. Enjoyed video very much. I love seeing farms all over the world.
You found a beautiful location! A hidden gem! Have a fun adventure! You need good leather gloves - when clearing the land. Love all the trees around the buildings, makes it shady and cooling.
My friend, be very careful when working with the brush cutter in places you are not familiar with. I know of many people who have been seriously injured when a wire became tied to the rotating blade. If I can, I also recommend you wear high rubber boots, it is very common for snakes like vipers to find shelter in abandoned places like that
Thanks @GiammiDinDonDero the early days of clearing did take me a very long time because of what was hidden in there. I have seen the odd snake but they tend to stay well clear....fingers crossed.👍
I did and I liked it. The landscape in that region is some of the best in Italy, in my opinion. What held me back was how hilly it is and how long it takes to get around because of the landscape. I also cycle a fair amount and so rolling hills with big mountains nearby won me over. There are some amazing properties there but take your time to check them - a lot have cracks in them that you can fit an arm through!
This is really awesome. We’re inspired and shopping for a place somewhere between Marche and Puglia. My first thought while watching you clearing the brush in shorts and a T-shirt was “poison ivy and bugs”!! I also learned the hard way when we first moved to our house 2 years ago, and I got debilitating bites and poison ivy allergic reaction. Good luck with everything!!!
They're fine. It was bad a few years back but they sprayed and its good now. I had stagnant water that was hidden in the growth. Hardly any since I sorted that out.
Goats love brambles. Might be worth putting the word out & see if you can borrow a dozen goats for a few weeks to clean them up. Some temporary fencing & you can sit back with a chianti to watch them munch through it.
It is normal and usual to remove everything including fixed cabinets, faucets, light fixtures, sinks, & appliances (and often the bathroom!) when a home is sold.
I just subscribed! I like your channel. It is calming and soothing. The property is quite lovely and I want to see what how you cultivate the land, restore the two houses and just watch the journey unfold. Take care and see you on the next one, for sure! ❤ Michigan Subscriber
What a spectacular view. Considering this property has an existing structure and space to plant, I believe it was worth the purchase. Can you send the link for the place you purchased the ladder please?
Hello. Thank you for saying hello. Let me check where and I will send the link through this chat tomorrow. It is very useful and easy to carry around. 👍

You are living a dream of mine. I too wish to buy land somewhere nice like Italy. I was thinking Spain. Hardest part is leaving family and friends, thus I must wait till I am old.
Hello @christopherhernandez3937 - I understand. I waiting to the time where my daughters are old enough to travel themselves so while I am back and forth, we get plenty of time together in Italy and in England.
Good luck! I have friends in Castelraimondo down south of you . My son lived there for a few years and also up north in Aosta, back in his Aus home now. Im Australia and got confused about the weather you were dealing with, but i then watched 1st video and get it now. It's very nice in that region but hard to get a Job.🍇🍕🥗🍷🌻
Great video mate, please stay inside your house with closed door and windows when they put pesticide on those fields as it can cause a lot of health problems.
@threeacresofmarche I come from France. It s not much a big deal if you are inside everything closed off or at the beach. Next time you see the farmers ask them they will tell you. Country side has more advantages than disadvantages but it is important to be on the safe side. Unless they grow the wine organically but I bought it.
A reciprocating saw on battery might be useful. Got a cheap one and its been perfect to cut overgrown stuff loose without the violence of a chain saw. Saw blades are reasonable and for different materials so if you hit metal with the wood blade its not the end of the world. Loved the video!
Thank you for the tips @basbouwman5139 I do need to invest in a variety of tools to get on top of the clear out. As you will find in the next few...there is a helluva mess in there!
Lucky you! The countryside is beautiful and your property has a lot of potential. I'm sure the "landscaping" you plan will be in harmony with your surroundings. I suspect that during the summer months you will spend more time inside your thick-walled house than in the roasting sun outside.
@@threeacresofmarche just stumbled onto the channel and I suspect it's due to the algorithm (I watch several channels of people who've done this)... as I hope to myself one day! Cheering you on from Nashville, Tennessee 🍻
@@inthegarden6556 yes, I wondered this too? Here in Australia prices for small parcels of rural/regional land, particularly those within 2 hours or so of large town/city, continue to climb even after significant increases during the COVID years. I might be wrong but I just don't think you could find a property like this one Italy, at the indicated price, here in Australia. Unless it was very, very, remote.
@@threeacresofmarche It's gorgeous. I also found many 55 gallon drums. Luckily there is a guy who takes scrap metal and every few months I give him a call and he takes it all away.
Hi @swmient . I think I got very lucky with the price and location.🙏 Abruzzo is stunning. I really likes that region. It was just too hilly for a gentle cycle.😁
Just found your content, going to enjoy watching from the beginning. Great buy, looks like an amazing landscape and property. Have seen that some people take the kitchen when they move, weird if the place stood empty though. They sure left end for you to sort outside, but hopefully you'll have some cases great finds.👍
Hi @neutonrenda2303 I am not sure why they did that either but it is what it is now and my fault for not being crystal clear with asking or setting my expectations. A top tip for those looking to buy to check this properly!😄
If that's what you get for £50k, I think I need to start learning Italian, as the properties with a few acres I've been looking at in southern Scotland start around £350k.
Beautiful house. let's hope the roof is not leaking, it seemed too old. I also bought a house in a small village in Portugal, and practically the whole roof had to be replaced/retouched. As for the landfill and the junk... I only have 950m2, and what we found in two years would be enough for us to start a junkyard sale. Kee up with the good work!
Hi @sandracosta29 initial inspections suggest the roof it good - it is just not insulated, but that may not be such a problem....time will tell. The junkyard -I am amazed how much I have pulled out! 😂
I bought last year in Le Marche and much of this I relate to! Especially the mozzies which used me as an all you can eat buffet 😂! It seems I am very lucky in that I got a kitchen and bathrooms - the family were selling up and already had homes in other places so didn’t need it. That said, I am left with a lot of stuff to sift through - but finding some gems that are unlocking the history of the house. Wishing you well in your adventure!
Hi @emmagordon9897 . Thats great to find some gems. I did find one or two in the outhouse that will stay with the house and be used as part of the decor...if I ever get to that part of the project!😂
Borrow some goats you can tie up in each area they would clear all that overgrowth. Otherwise good on you mate! Doing it alone very nice, wonderful place 😁🙌
Hi @seamusegan9956 Thanks for the tip. I intend to clear all around the well. I think the bank that is on the high side is from mud built up from heavy storms over the years.
Looks good. Lots of work, which I am sure you're up for. You should have a lot less mosquitoes once you clear the junk that the previous owners left. There's obviously a problem with standing water collecting in the area which they love. Also careful with that roofing product, it looks like it's asbestos
Hi @davidhargreaves1728 It was'nt a problem really but of all the research I did, I missed that one! I have no kitchen sink or taps so at the moment am getting water to wash the dishes from the bathroom.😂

Hello @05glisedan Thank you - I will try keep the content to a mix to suit all and if things go well I can help or show more to those who have more specific questions. One step at a time I suppose but there is soooo much work to do I will be at the working on the house part for quite some time! Thank you for the feedback. I really appreciate it.
Wow, what a dreamy view! Wonderful…… 🧡
Figs are the Most Delicious! So many wonderful surprises ✨
Thank you @JulietGermanotta . Sounds like you have a good plan and have that goal to get here! Best wishes to you.🙌
Before starting such an adventure we always imagine it so romantic... but, then, day by day, it's time to discover how hard it is all that work being done alone with barely any heavy tools.
Thank you @pedrorego8953 . I am certainly learning quickly from my many mistakes.
I used to live in Le Marche for 10 years. Love it - would love to go back one day. In bocca al lupo con tutto

Well done Richard, I lived for a year as a student in Urbino at the other end of the region in 1990-91 and loved it. Good luck and looking forward to seeing your next instalment.

Countryside is beautiful. Can only assume the climate is ideal for growing most anything.
I think so @thyslop1737 I will try growing as much as I can once the lanscaping is done and I can get on with planting.
Well done,

Great adventure,

Lovely to meet you. Sounds like you have a dream brewing that I hope becomes a reality for you one day soon.🤞

Hi,saw this a few years ago?glad to have found it again.looking forward to catching up on the channel.cheers.
Hi @micksoden7064 . Thanks - I only started this channel earlier this year. Did you see the property for sale a few years ago?
@@threeacresofmarche yes,and all the very best with your renovation and TH-cam channel.can't wait to catch up.
Hi, hope you’re doing good…Wow amazing..it’s nice to watch your journey..thank you
Just have loads of cash for renovation, use local labour or you may have problems and look thoroughly into the legal aspects involved in ownership, taxation etc or you may have a lemon on your hands.
It feels a solid purchase (2 years in now).
curious what you mean by this 'use local labour or you may have problems' ?
Imminent domain. They can do that in the US too, so much for owning anything
Hi Richard 🙋🏻♂️ Hopefully you will continue to post videos. I really like the amateur spirit 👍
Hello @carnaxle I hope to improve on my camera and editing skills as I go but will always be a DIY amateur trying my best with the help from the Univesity of TH-cam.😄 Thanks for saying hello!

Très belle vidéo, pleine de charme. Vu depuis la Belgique sous la neige et par -14 degrés. Bravo aussi pour le courage et bonne continuation.
Very kind of you @michelc891 Thank you for taking the time to say hello.
Hey we have just found your channel mate … me and the wife send our best and look forward to content
Good luck
Thank you @AlexJD85
you are lucky the house was empty!!!
😂 I hope you found some treasures to keep.🤞
i currently rent an apartment in mid town Toronto, but spent 17 years in St.Lucia, West Indies; i bought 1/4 acre there and built a small concrete house on a stepped foundation, and a flat concrete roof; when the house was finished and i moved in, it was bare and plain, but the house and land were already paid in full; i clearly remember the feeling of being a 'man' for the first time in my life ie not renting, and knowing that i could lose my job, but wouldn't be HOMELESS...there is nothing like owning land vs renting (my paternal grandparents were from Pomarico in the south, married there in 1901, then emigrated to New York City, returned to Italy then moved back to NewYork, then Toronto in 1905 and settled there)
When you buy a house in Italy, it does not include fixtures and fittings. They took the kitchen units ... you're lucky they left the light bulbs!
I thought they were joking about the kitchen sink part as I said I needed that to stay. They took the kitchen but left beds in bushes. 😂
You’re digging out some cool yard art. Every time I clear an overgrown area on our family farm in US that’s been in family for 150 years I run into treasures. They never threw anything away. I find things I remember from childhood clearing the property for farming. Enjoyed video very much. I love seeing farms all over the world.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
That is lovely land...it reminds me of the English countryside.
This part of Marche is similar to the rolling countryside in parts of the UK. Book ended by higher mountains and warmer waters though!😊
Nice place, I tend to only use the blade on the strimmer, takes out everything and doesn't need replacing
Thanks for the tip. I love your avatar! 😂
@@threeacresofmarche I used to be an analytical chemist. I prefer Abruzzo, but all of Italy is awesome
Abruzzo is special. I agree. Lots of comments on here from people that love Abruzzo.😊
What a great property you've acquired. Of course tons of work but most of it a one-off for you. The Italian countryside is unlike any other...!
Thank you @jimjimgl3
Thank you for sharing! What a dream moving to Italy !
Quite lovely! I'd love to live in Italy too.
Go for it!😊
@threeacresofmarche you said you traveled all over Italy, did you check Abruzzo out? If so, what did you think about it?
Thank you @dak_alwaystravels9213 . Luckily nothing bad happened - just a few little bugs giving tiny bites. Trousers worked!😂
Looking forward to seeing your progress. Pretty views!

Hello @user-kp7ez6bb7o . Thank you. A lot are asking about this type of content. I will get this in as soon as I can. Lots to share that I hope helps.
Goats love brambles. Might be worth putting the word out & see if you can borrow a dozen goats for a few weeks to clean them up. Some temporary fencing & you can sit back with a chianti to watch them munch through it.
Somebody else on here suggested that. I never thought of it before...I will ask. Its a great idea! Thank you.

Marche is beautiful.
Congratulations, a beautiful spot.
The house will be perfect.
It is normal and usual to remove everything including fixed cabinets, faucets, light fixtures, sinks, & appliances (and often the bathroom!) when a home is sold.
I just wish they would have followed the same rule about the barns and outhouse!😂
Oh , and stunning sunsets ❤

Great video mate, please stay inside your house with closed door and windows when they put pesticide on those fields as it can cause a lot of health problems.
Thanks @Max-wd8ox . It is a concern. I hope to get notice or see it all happening so that I can be inside or on the beach for the day.👍
@threeacresofmarche I come from France. It s not much a big deal if you are inside everything closed off or at the beach. Next time you see the farmers ask them they will tell you. Country side has more advantages than disadvantages but it is important to be on the safe side. Unless they grow the wine organically but I bought it.
Just discovered your video today, i spent 2 years growing up in a village called Ripatransone, AP which is in the Marche, beautiful views

good to see that we're not going crazy with the safety outfits
Maybe the flip flops are taking it too far though!😂🤦♂️
Hello @ginacrusco234 . I think plenty of natural shade and as much time outside as possible.😎
GREAT set-up! Amazing how prices are just tumbling in Italy. It'll only get worse, but good for the country to bring in young blood from other areas.
Its a challenge. The quiet towns are seeing changes with young Italians coming back to start businesses. It has hope.
Why are they tumbling and why do you say it will get worse?
I don't think it will get worse, personally. I would not have bought there had I of had those concerns. From my experiene, prices are not tumbling.

@@inthegarden6556 yes, I wondered this too?
Go for it - the weather is slightly different also, I imagine.😎
Beautiful house. let's hope the roof is not leaking, it seemed too old. I also bought a house in a small village in Portugal, and practically the whole roof had to be replaced/retouched. As for the landfill and the junk... I only have 950m2, and what we found in two years would be enough for us to start a junkyard sale. Kee up with the good work!
Hi @sandracosta29 initial inspections suggest the roof it good - it is just not insulated, but that may not be such a problem....time will tell. The junkyard -I am amazed how much I have pulled out! 😂
Would be good to insulate roof make it much cooler in summer and warmer in winter 👍
You might need to repair the crack in your well liner pipe to avoid contamination during rain events!

Hi @seamusegan9956 Thanks for the tip. I intend to clear all around the well. I think the bank that is on the high side is from mud built up from heavy storms over the years.
I would save that old oil barrel and use it as a burning barrel. Nice to have if you doing some renovation to burn old mouldy wood in 🙂
Great idea @CreativeHuckleBerry , thank you. I have found three barrels....so far!😂
Looks good. Lots of work, which I am sure you're up for.
You should have a lot less mosquitoes once you clear the junk that the previous owners left. There's obviously a problem with standing water collecting in the area which they love. Also careful with that roofing product, it looks like it's asbestos
Hello @kyo778
You're right. The clearing has helped and there was a lot of standing water. Its getting there.👍
