I felt like a kid meeting you and your dad. I spent a lot of time overseas supporting soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan after I got out of the Army as a contractor. Great vid Eric. I am a young technician from Trinidad and Tobago and I really enjoy your videos.. keep up the good work man Gods richly blessing to you.

I can watch you work all day sir, but if I did that I wouldn’t get to work on my car. Lol so I subscribed to the channel! 🤘 can’t wait for more videos. Until then I have a lot of catching up to do.
When I drain the radiator I use the pumps you can get at harbor freight and use the smallest hose. Open the cap and run the hose down inside all the way down and start pumping it into a clean bucket(unless flushing). Once you get it started it will continue to drain until it’s empty. It’s a little slower but a lot less messy. I have also used it to pump the coolant into the overflow(with the return pinched off) low enough to change the water pump or change thermostat.
Good video, i realize this is 2 years on but still, you don't have to remove the core, you can remove the tbi unit, and use a way smaller chain and you can clear it, its tight but ive done it twice, you did it the easiest way tho. good job :) also you can remove the wires from the tbi, just squeeze the plastic fingers on top of the injectors and pull up, then slide the wires out of the tbi, Love the vid Keep it up
A better fix for this vac lines is to replace them with stainless brake lines. Not something a shop would do but when it's your car and you're not deleting them, why not? The rubber vacuum fittings though, treat them with a good rubber conditioner and reuse them. Cheap replacements will last a year or two, if you treat your oem stuff right, it could last forever. If anyone knows of a sure fire way too get those rubber fittings that aren't junk(other than salvaging them from a wrecking yard), I'd appreciate the info.
I have a 1990 version of your dads truck that I bought new and a number of year later I was having all sorts of problems going on with my truck that I couldn't figure out. I took to the dealer and they found that same ground broken that was broken on your truck. Crazy. 😂😂😂
i think your dad did put the flywheel tc cover cuz i just finished removing mine and i useda 15mm socket on all of them btw this video is helping me remove my 350 on an 89
GMT 400, the best Chevy truck ever.. anyway.. the connectors for the motor in general, are all unique. There is no way to mess it up. The fuel injectors unplug from the top of the injectors, and the wires come out of the base of the TBI through a solid rubber plug that simply pulls out. And I disagree with the "wheezing TBI" assessment. It actually is comparable to a 650 carb. The TBI system GM came up with was excellent. Very simple, very dependable. Your gonna have more headaches with whatever you put in there, and it wont even come close to how dependable the OEM TBI is.
I removed the core support when doing mine as well, makes everything so much easier! Love working on these trucks! They're cake and super easy, I love my SBC, even have one in my S10 as well
Wish vehicle manufacturers would of kept the fan shroud that came in 2 peice would of been a great thing to kept for all modern newer vehicles but no they had to make them solid on new vehicles to be a pain were you have to remove the fan and clutch as well to get the fan shroud out
Eric you should do a series where you teach someone to work on their vehicle. Someone that has no to little car experience. Most of us that see your channel is because we can't do things on our own. I think it would be a good idea. You would of course be there, teaching them how to do some things.
Eric I think they put the trans cross member in backwards ,because the cut out should be toward the trans so you can take the pan off with out removing the cross member...
Awesome video as always man. One thing I will say, even though it's probably already too late, swap out the starter for the small one while you can; the big starter is a poor design along with the tbi system in general (91 with the 350tbi and the 700r4 here lol). I'm actually planning an lm7 with 4l80e swap for mine along with a 5/7 drop and some old trans am snowflake style wheels.
An easier way to take the hood off for a no adjustment reinstallation take the end caps off the cowl grill and you can access the hinge pivot bolts you take the top spring bolts loose and then lay a hammer or something next to the hood latch lay the hood down on the propping device that you have chosen and then remove the hinge pivot bolts lift the hood off no adjustment required to re install I have done it by myself many times but 2 people definitely make it easier
That design of battery terminal is the best, as long as you never have to mess with it. Most of my cars are that type of terminal, I could convert it but I'm careful with them and they do take some height off the battery.
I KNEW IT..... I JUST KNEW IT... SHOP ALWAYS LOOKS EMPTY!!! GARAGE ALWAYS CLOSED!!! HIGH DOLLAR HOT ROD TURBO CARS BEING BUILT!!! GOTTA BE DRUGS BEING SOLD!!!! LOL KIDDING... ALWAYS GREAT CONTENT!!!

After about the 4th time of pulling an engine out of these trucks i finally remember to disconnect the fuel lines from the bell housing. The ground on the back of the passenger head only got me twice. When i do it now though i just disconnect the front harness and pull the fenders and entire core support with grill and all in one piece.
Loos like your dad takes very special care of his truck. Just curious, will you be changing out the terminals on the side post? A bad connection due to to dirty or corrosion inside and on the terminals could be a drain that is undetectable. J/S
Removing the core support, et al, has advantage. Personally, I've never done it that way. Shorten up you chain and you'd easily get enough lift to remove the engine and transmission, over the core support.
Eric awsome video to start the weekend off with. Can't wait for more.. but In the meantime I have a 4l60e to replace in my 94 gmt400 suburban. Not a big fan of those transmissions. I'd rather a turbo400 or 700r4. Stay dirty have a great weekend👨🔧👌
I usually remove the fenders (inner and outer) and rad support as one unit. It's a bit big, but it'll stand on end and makes working in the engine bay WAY easier.
Hey Eric since you're not using it you should do a teardown of the tbi i have a 94 1500 with one and want to rebuilt it and have no clue where to start
To get harness off TBI Squeeze the tabs and pull the connectors on top of injectors. Then wiggle a flat screw driver in between the rubber the wires are in and tbi and it will slide back towards you.
Thanks for the shout out Eric, love your videos. I have a question for ya, do you have to idle the car for a few minutes before shutting off a turbo charged car?. Thanks from a Canadian friend eh :)
yes. especially when you were driving hard, on a track or on a highway, when the turbo is very hot it will burn the oil around the turbo shaft and make it wear out faster because it will spin without lubrication for some time, give it at least 30 seconds to slow down and to get cooled by the oil. thats in the case if you have brass bearing in turbo, if you have ball bearings its not that critical but it will not do any harm. i have an NA nissan and give it a minute after hard driving to cool down on idle, i believe it will make my engine last a little longer this way. Also one time i had an old volvo which had electric coolant pump that turned on after switching the engine off and made coolant flow through the engine for couple of minutes just so the engine will cool more evenly so definetly there is some logical reasoning in letting your car cool down on idle.
@@Professional_TH-cam_Commenter yeah but on idle its a fraction of rpm compared to full load spinning. new turbos spin over 100k rpm so imagine something spinning that fast without lubrication.
Doesn’t it just piss you off when you’re in the middle of fighting to pull an engine and your buddy reminds you that they assembled the entire truck in less than one hour?
Eric you could always make a video that tells you were everything went. I mean it seems like an idea. If you want to later post it say on youtube for others to watch that works too.
Not exactly the same as my 97 Yukon but close enough. Lot of great advice. Short of the many cut hoses, pipes, and wires...😂 Hoping to put mine back in the factory way.
