  • Today we are installing the engine for this 2010 Impreza. If you are new here, this all started as a head gasket job. (As we know, failed head gaskets are very common for Subaru 2.5l engine. You'll find a Subaru repair playlist below if you'd like to check any previous episode regarding engine removal, cost to machine heads, engine tear down, etc.) Installing the Subaru engine is being done in my small, one car garage. If I can accomplish this job at home so can you. Tools used are listed below as well. Cheers.

    Great job.
It illustrates why capable independent Subaru shops (I'd never go to a stealership) charge what they do.

Thoroughly enjoyed watching, thanks for sharing. I have never owned a Subaru, but a relative (who is a mechanic) did years ago. And he said they are one of the best cars ever. Will get one on the used car market here.

The stretch belt setup seems like it sucks!
I have never used coolant conditioner or special Subaru coolant with modern MLS head gaskets--no issues.

Great series, I watched the removal video, the head removal and installation and then the engine installation. I know she didn’t mention anything about burping the cooling system. Is it as big a deal as people say on a Subaru? I also noticed that you took off the rattle shrouds -- I mean, The header shroud. Did you put it on after or is it necessary? They sure make a racket. 👍🏽👍🏽

Thank you. I did not reinstall the heat shield; they are notoriously known to make a racket. I simply avoid parking on tall grass. Cheers.

Excellent video! You only mention torque spec on the engine mounts, what about the bell housing/starter bolts, throttle body bolt, exhaust manifold nuts?

Did you have to reprogram anything in the car? My dad passed away and he just finished the engine job but it did not start it just cranked. Thanks
