  • Just after 1 am Conroe Police and Conroe Fire responded to a reported SUV crash on SH 105 West between Blake Road and Old 105. Units arrived to find two males in their early twenties trapped in an SUV that slammed into the rear of a parked 18-wheeler. Firefighters removed the driver of the SUV who was in cardiac arrest and worked for over 20 minutes to revive the male but were unable to. The passenger was transported to HCA Conroe in critical condition. He told police that they were westbound and the driver had looked down, however, when he looked back up the 18-wheeler loaded with sod was parked partially in the moving lane of traffic and they slammed into it. Montgomery Coutny Justice of the Peace Wayne Mack responded to the scene for the inquest and ordered Eickenhorst Funeral Directors to transport the victim to the Montgomery County Forensic Center for autopsy. The road was closed westbound until after 4 am. The section of road in front of The Grass Store where the truck was going to make the delivery of sod had been improved by TXDOT with the center median. However, the improved shoulder is not wide enough for a vehicle which caused the driver to park partially in the roadway as he got out to unlock the gate to the business. In addition with the median police were unable to counter flow traffic safely due to the hill just west of the scene causing a blind spot as vehicles topped it. They did however close of two eastbound lanes to allow motorists to make a U-turn. However, it was noticed that most eastbound traffic failed to slow to a safe speed as they approached the scene. One motorist attempted to counterflow but was quickly stopped. According to Judge Mack both young men were from the Montgomery area.

I have an SUV that everything on the dash, radio, and steering wheel are tiny symbols. You have to press each symbol to do anything. I was too stupid to realize this when purchased. Sounds like Trucker had to park partially in the road to get out and open the gate while right behind him was a Hill that prevented traffic from coming over the top from seeing him. If he was making a delivery and had his hazard lights on I don't see him being faulted for the accident but then again you can't fault the car for rear ending it if there was a blind Hill that they were coming over and Bam 💥 there's a parked truck in front of you. Either the business is at fault for having deliveries done there with no space for the trucks to safely park or TXDOT is on Hot Water 🔥 🌊 for not having an adequate shoulder in that area. Either way what a terrible and sad story here..

    • @Deploracle
      @Deploracle 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

The driveway to the grass company is over 70 feet long from fence to road shoulder. The entire semi could fit in the driveway but for some reason the truck was parked mostly on the shoulder.
Check Google maps street view ("Overdrive Conroe TX") should put you at the scene of the accident. Seems there was a recent lane repaint, taking the rightmost lane closer to the shoulder by about 3 ft. Still plenty of room for the truck and just off the roadway surface is flat gravel.
There are no hills there .. all flat land, straight road with easy visibility.

Stupid country, right? A driver cruising along completely distracted by his phone (in full violation of the terms of his license) slams into a parked semi, and the business that just so happened to be there gets sued into bankruptcy. 'Murica
It's the driver's duty to be aware of everything happening around his vehicle at all times. It is not difficult to determine that a vehicle ahead is stopped/parked. Plenty of clues but you must be looking through the windshield to receive the clues. At minimum it would have been clear something wasn't normal coming up ahead. The first order of business is reducing your kinetic energy so braking and maneuvering becomes more effective.
The sod truck was not parked across lanes of the highway without any lights on. It was parallel to the roadway and as far onto the shoulder as a loaded sod truck should be, fully lit.
The driver should NOT put cones, flares, or any other device in the road when the driver just needs to get out to open a gate. Cones/flares are for persistent hazards (flat tires/mechanical faults). Sod driver did nothing wrong.
The kid entered the scene not aware of the danger ahead (head down as reported by passenger)
He did not slow down, or prepare for any road hazards at all.
By the time the driver saw the truck, it was too late to avoid.

It is a very tragic accident that a young man lost his life and another was severely injured changing his life forever. RIP driver passenger please be very aware of your surroundings. You have no idea who is in those vehicles around you and if they are impaired or just paying attention.

❓❓.."GROSS--NEGLIGENCE" BY THE TRUCK--DRIVER .. NOT PROPERLY PARKED .. NO SAFETY FLARES OR SAFETY CONES OR MARKERS TO WARN ON--COMING TRAFFICE .. HOW DOES "THE JUDGE" KNOW THAT THE CAR--DRIVER WAS "DISTRACTED" ....❓❓... YOU SHOULD HAVE ASKED "THE JUDGE" HIS "SOURCE" FOR THAT COMMENT .. MAYBE THE TRUCK WAS NOT "PROPERLY PARKED" OR "SHOULD HAVE BEEN COMPLETELY OFF THE ROAD" BEFORE HE TRIED TO "OPEN THE GATE" .. WHERE WERE THE "SAFETY CONES OR VERTICAL--MARKERS" WARNING ON-COMING TRAFFIC THAT THE "TRUCK" WAS STOPPED & OBSTRUCTING TRAFFIC ...❓❓❓

Are you a trucker? A CDL holder? I was always told rear end accidents are the fault of the following driver. Speed, inattention, not keeping a safe distance so you have reaction time....

@@dannyhonn973 .. Yes--I Am .. The Truck Pulling the Long Trailer, was "Parked" in the "Right-Hand-Lane" Obstructing Traffic, and the Truck-Driver "Failed" to Comply with Texas Commercial Vehicle Law, that Requires the Driver to Place Reflective Markers 200-feet to the Rear of His Parked Truck .. Using "Flashers on the Truck" is Not-Sufficient .. The Driver Should Have Immediately Gotten-Out & Installed the Reflective-Markers/Cones "Before" He Did Anything Else .. The Business is Also At-Fault .. The Driveway Entry Should Have Been "Deep Enough" so that the Truck Driver Could Have Pulled His Entire Truck & Trailer Off of The Road .. The Entry Used by The Truck Driver was Only Long Enough for Cars & Pickups to Safely Pull-Off of The Road .. So The Business Will Surely Get Sued .. The Business Should Never Have Allowed Deliveries of Long-Trucks & Trailers At-Night When the Unattended Entry-Gate Would Be Locked .. During the Day that "Gate" Would Have Been Open to The Public and the Truck-Driver Would Not Have Had to Get Out of His Truck to Open The Gate .. He Could Have Simply & Safely Exited The Road and Never Had to Park & Obstruct Traffic in The Dark of Night ..

@@dannyhonn973 Yep. In Texas it's called "Failure to Control Speed".

@@donaldpedigo296 It's a 70 foot long driveway from the gate to the highway shoulder. As a truck driver (ahem) you should know the maximum legal length truck/trailer can fit on the driveway. Even if the driver stopped on the shoulder, which is fully legal, there is plenty of room (15 foot wide shoulder with flat packed gravel for another 25 feet from the shoulder).
You may be a truck driver somewhere .. but obviously not in Texas.
Take a little time with Google maps. Enter "Overdrive Conroe TX" into the search bar to take you to the scene of the accident. Get down close with Street View .. and tell me what YOU would do in that situation with a locked gate.

It's dangerous to be driving at reckless speeds and not paying attention. You're the type of person that blames everyone else for your problems.
