    I feel /a little/ bad that I literally didnt finish the tutorial cave. I know how bad it is vicariously. But I couldn't even have faith that somewhere past the intro in the game there could be some good moments or quests or gameplay. In fact I got the exact opposite feeling. So I dipped immediately.

    No. It's fundamentally a boring and shallow experience that lacks the charisma of past Bethesda experiences. They can alter it to persuade desperate players on the fringe but there's no long term appeal. I look forward to when this mess is behind us.

      I think starfield is fun and deep. I've already put in 930 hours with many reasons to keep playing. It isn't a mess at all. Have some fun in your life.

      Agreed there no hooks in the game for the standard gameplay. You could argue for base and ship building but that completely different genre than what was sold to us. The rest of the game is shallow and uninteresting with everything already explained there is no deeper level to immerse your self into.

      @@kenpachiramasama1139 Is Sebastion Banks still alive? What is The Great Serpent? Who are the Creators? Where is the intelligent alien life? What is the true purpose of the Temples?
      What do you mean there is no deeper level? Base building and Ship building were core features shown in the gameplay demonstration for 2 years in a row. What the hell do you mean it's "Completely different than what was sold to us."?

      In order no he is not alive unless he a star child(so in another universe), a hallucination(the founder literally said he saw it in bad jump), the unity is the creator or no answer will be given, there are no intelligent aliens in Starfield, temple are for becoming one with the unity(your transcending your universe). No where is in game is base building or ship building a mandatory action. It is fact just there as resource sick it not part of main gameplay loop was my point. I think you’re right in that at one point the game revolved around it for exploration but Bethesda did way with it because it was tedious and exploration sucks because of realism and procedural generation. So they went back to fallout 4 design.

    I don't understand how people had such hype and anticipation for Starfield. There were so many warning signs and red flags prior to release. Maybe people just saw what they wanted to see, wanted to believe the marketing, rather than the true horror that stood plainly in broad daylight.

The cutscenes, loading screens (lack there of), stealth, vehicles etc I can go on ….its sad bc I love Bethesda and I didn’t hate starfield per say but yea idk what yall think?

    as long as you spend more time in the menu than playing the game, it will always be bad. It would have been way better if it took place in a single solar system with like 2-3 primary planets with more stuff to do on those maps.

      Im just playing skyrim at the moment (first time, no mods), and having the same issue. Primarily managing my inventory. It is puzzling that lessons from there have not been learnt and applied here.
      At least that is something probably in reach of modders. Someone did write a pleasant mod for New Vegas that let you define loadouts.. I forget how it worked.

  • @peterd9698
    @peterd9698 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I havent played SF (tend to not even buy games until they are a bargain on Steam).. but I became fascinated by the (possibly cursed) game design problem of combining a space RPG with unlimited procedural worlds. Here is my wishlist (based on reviews)
    * *Starfield New Vegas:* Primarily, no unkillable NPCs, but also a handful of other choices that make it one of the best games for actual roleplay.
    * *Skyrim in space, IN SPACE!* Those procedural worlds may never deliver the handcrafted skyrim exploration experience, but a purely in-space map could. It would be technically fairly easy to be able to fly from 100km above any point of a planet to 100km above any other, around any other star with no loading screens. We can map skyrim concepts 1-1 onto this level. Eg mountain becomes nebula or pulsar that you can "climb" or avoid. Dragon becomes mysterious fleet. Bandits become pirates, You discover secret bases etc just like you would stumble across ancient temples, though this would involve a variety of sensors. The scale is huge, but so empty there would only be the same few hundred special handcrafted locations.
    * *Avoid instancing exact same locations... EVER!* Eg a procedural dungeon crawler mechanic, or just many more maps, or swapping out rooms and textures at least. Probably all of these.
    * *Deemphasise the main story* Eg have other ways of getting off the tutorial planet. Funky space wizard powers are just one thing you could pursue in a setting this vast.
    Where I see Starfield being able to shine is if it became more like the Traveller TTRPG basic rules and setting. A player campaign does not consist of a single main story but several adventures. So much could be plugged into this environment (Skyrim and every fallout could sit in hidden corners of it!) .. instead of a main story, maybe you could have several "endgame" quests dotted around, or getting to a certain stage in one of a variety of quests triggers the endgame scenario and gives an overall structure to the campaign.. Then when you replay with a different character it could be a very different game. Also, with so much content, it would be absolutely expected that your choices would cut you of from huge swathes of it, that would only be accessible with a different playthrough and character.

  • @Square-0ne
    @Square-0ne 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    I liked the art direction and the amount of details. But I could not tolerate the strange writing and the obvious technical limitations that they did not work on. The engine can handle seamless loading of very large maps but due to using a less precise number format for the player and ship position (landing position sets the initial spawn coordinates) the game crashes if a player traverses too far from the origin. Over large distances cumulative rounding errors lead to the wrong position for objects and the player. Their solution were invisible borders.
    Many quests felt like being the delivery guy and had no real impact. The dialogue trees are narrow, funnelling you towards one intended path. It actively hurts the new game plus mechanic, where you could have more decisions that play out differently - increasing the appeal of replaying the game. I doubt that they will rework the quests because of the cost for new voice overs and most important - Bethesda does not see anything wrong with their games- So there is no incentive for them to improve.

    I wish I shared your optimism, but I don't. I like Starfield, but for me it barely cleared the "like" bar. I don't have high hopes for it. I'm sure they will improve it, but I doubt it will be enough to make it great. The game did have potential, I can see it, but they played it too safe and weren't daring enough to dig deeper into the themes of the game. And the characters are so... bland. I doubt they're going to give Morgan a personality. I think the game should have taken place in less space (only 3-4 planetary systems) and I think it needed more characters/factions/locations. There is good content, but finding it is like looking for a needle in a hey stack of 1000 planets.

    I enjoyed my play through of Starfield, and got around 75hours out of it. Which I consider a decent enough return. No desire to go back in the short term, but I might try the XP.
    I think the main issues are
    1. The commitment to the lore and design decisions made the worlds mostly generic. The crafted sections and quests are great, but the rest of the stuff is boring for the most part. (Compare this to Phantom Liberty which was created as this time, with a small but hyper detailed area/campaign)
    2. The game engine is crap, and well past its use by date - poor graphics, facial animations and the loading screens are all symptoms of that.
    Starfield is a 7/10 game, not crap but not exceptional.

That was all I cared to know about it in advance, the rest of the information can be discarded. I don't even get why people pay so much attention to ads. Ads are just shallow empty marketing and not just for this game, but for all products. Now, if you mean the Crimson Fleet questline, since you mentioned a huge ship with military personnel... 1. That's a class M ship that can't be comandeered, but many others can. 2. You will be able to kill them at the end of the Crimson Fleet questline, IF you side with them, instead of SysDef.

I base my decision whether or not to buy a game based on actual gameplay, not cherrypicked by Bethesda's marketing team, but seeing someone play the game for a while and deciding based on that.

    If you're in the admittedly narrow target audience, starfield is despite all it's flaws, a blast.
