Just a dude who loves video games! Join me as I talk about some of my favorite (and least favorite) things in the world of gaming.
The Next Generation of Pokémon is VERY Important
The 10th generation of Pokémon will be here before we know it, and while all new mainline Pokémon titles are a big deal, I think that this next batch of games is hugely important for the series' future. Let's talk about why...

Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom Has a Big Problem...
มุมมอง 1.6Kหลายเดือนก่อน
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom was supposed to be a bold new direction for the 2D Zelda series, combining the sandbox nature of the recent 3D games with the classic exploration and dungeon crawling of the series' roots. However, after spending significant time with the game it's hard for me not to be disappointed. It does a lot of things right, but the central echoes mechanic leaves a lo...
We Need More Games Like Astro Bot
มุมมอง 266หลายเดือนก่อน
Astro Bot is not only one of the best games of 2024, it's also one of the most important. Let's dive into all the things that make this game so great, and then explore why the gaming industry desperately needs more titles like this.
Why Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is so Underrated
มุมมอง 1.9K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is a fantastic video game and easily one of my favorites in recent memory. I also think that it's underrated, and didn't get as much attention as it should have last year. Let's talk about why that is, and what makes this game so great.
Black Myth: Wukong is Flawed Fun
มุมมอง 532 หลายเดือนก่อน
Black Myth: Wukong feels like the first major release that we've had in a while, and it's generating quite a bit of hype. Does it deliver though? Well, so far I'm finding it to be a bit rough around the edges, but also a really fun time.
Will Starfield Ever Live up to its Potential?
มุมมอง 1.9K3 หลายเดือนก่อน
Prior to its release Starfield had massive, massive hype surrounding it. Unfortunately, once the game came out it quickly became clear that it was not going to be living up to those expectations for most people. Today I want to talk about my issues with the game, and then look to the future to see if there's any hope for Starfield to turn things around.
What's Next for the Super Smash Bros. Series?
มุมมอง 4.8K3 หลายเดือนก่อน
Where does Super Smash Bros. go from here? Smash Ultimate is the biggest and possibly most beloved game in the entire series, making it one tough act to follow. So where does the franchise go from here?
Echoes of Wisdom and the Future of 2D Zelda
มุมมอง 6844 หลายเดือนก่อน
The next game in The Legend of Zelda franchise was announced last month and the reveal trailer seems to have fans a bit divided. Some people are over the moon with excitement, while others are a little bit concerned about the future of the franchise. Today I want to look at both trains of thought, and then examine what might be next for one of gaming's most beloved franchises.
A Difficult Elden Ring Conversation
มุมมอง 2.4K4 หลายเดือนก่อน
With the release of the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, conversation about Elden Ring and its difficulty has swept across the internet once again. I'm not one to usually engage in internet discourse such as this, but this game is so important to me that I couldn't resist offering my thoughts on the matter. You can also find my more general thoughts on the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion here: ...
Shadow of the Erdtree is Elden Ring at its Best
มุมมอง 1.2K4 หลายเดือนก่อน
Shadow of the Erdtree is finally here, and man, is it special. I had a hard time believing that this expansion could meet the lofty highs of the base game, but in many ways it actually surpasses them. Shadow of the Erdtree is a fantastic encore to one of the greatest video games ever made.
The Uncertain Future of Animal Crossing
มุมมอง 1.2K5 หลายเดือนก่อน
Animal Crossing: New Horizons was a massive, breakthrough success for the series when it launched in 2020. As much as I loved the game, it also left me with the feeling that it might be time for the franchise to evolve in a key way. Here is my *potentially unpopular* take on where I want the AC series to go from here.
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is Still Fantastic
มุมมอง 465 หลายเดือนก่อน
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door was one of my favorite games as a kid, so this year's Switch remake was one of my most anticipated titles of 2024. Is it as good as I remember though? The short answer is, yes. This game is still one of a kind, even 20 years after its original release.
One Year Later: Why Tears of the Kingdom is an Underrated Masterpiece
มุมมอง 28K6 หลายเดือนก่อน
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is now officially a year old, so I wanted to take some time to discuss the game and its lasting legacy. In my eyes, despite all of the accolades, this game actually feels a bit underrated these days. That's a shame too, because I believe that TOTK is an absolute masterpiece and one of the best video games ever made.

Spider-Man 2 Is The Ultimate Love Letter To Spider-Man
Tears is my favorite game of all time.
They better not mess this up. Switch Pokemon had me 💤 Dying for a good Pokémon experience
The problem is not the console power gamefreak is not even using the switch properly (proof are other games on the console doing way more like zelda). The problem are development times this game is unfinished and rushed.
If Pokemon ZA isn't an absolute banger, then I'm probably done. Maybe it's me getting older and more critical of what I play now, but it feels so disrespectful for GameFreak to charge me $60 for a game of such horrendous quality, when there are games that are the same price (and cheaper) that are so much better. Especially in the monster-taming genre... Great video dude. Keep up the fantastic work.
Thanks man! And yeah the rise of other quality monster-taming games is definitely another important factor here. GameFreak gotta figure it out
I hate to say it, but for my old slow ass I'd like it to be scaled down. I don't have a clue what to do in scarlet violet
Game freak needs to learn their is no excuses for how bad these games visually look. They are the number one grossing franchise in history. They csn afford to pay for better or more artists. The only way we are going to get less glitch games is if they move away from the yearly release schedule which seeing how we didn't get a game last year they might have.
Completely agree.
I still can't comprehend how people think Pokemon Scarlet is a good game.
It's mostly that the gameplay and story and quality of life features are all actually pretty solid. The only real issues are technical
I love Pokémon and all every game out, but Scarlet and Violet broke me. I hated both games, idk if I will ever be able to get back into playing Pokémon again.
Disagree, not even close to the ugliest Pokémon game we’ve gotten. Will concede it’s probably the buggiest
Idk, man, the world design is awful. Flat uninspired terrain everywhere. I played some BoTW, and Lost Woods clears anything GameFreak put out on Switch. It's embarrassing. Pokemon has no life, no mesh, no verticality, and no craft in the world they create. It's all boring flat ground with some grass, trees, and rocks here and there. Xenobalde X ooh hoo man, that's how you make a freaking world.
After years of hearing Pokemon fanboys screech about how misunderstood Scarlet and Violet were, I decided to pick up a cheap used copy to see if maybe I was wrong about judging the game so harshly. NOPE. The game was worse than I had initially thought. I cannot believe how brainwashed the Pokemon fanboys are in accepting this game. You would have to be absolutely delusional, tasteless, and be entirely without standards to be okay with this game masquarading as a Pokemon game. I really can't see the next game being all that great given how far the series has sunk since it left the DS.
Keep in mind that's after multiple patches too lol. Completely unacceptable.
The thing is... They only play Pokemon. They never experienced greatness.
In a way, I can’t believe gen X will live up to scarlet & Violet. But they good track record lately so let’s see…
The leaks pretty much confirmed that gen 10 will be on Switch and Switch 2 so it won't be on the most powerful hardware yet. It should be a surprise to no one they will release gen 10 on Switch pokemon has always released on the biggest Install Base it could. That said Gen 10 is a big one and will likely be launching not just as the 10th game but the 30th anniversary game in 2026. As a 30th anniversary game it should let us fight and meet past characters, idk why they couldn't aim for a framework that would let them reuse pokemon masters EX assets so they don't need to make a ton of new 3D models.
"Undoubtedly the ugliest and buggiest games we've gotten so far" meanwhile Gen 1 is sitting there forgotten
It's honestly pathetic that wanting the bare minimum effort from Gamefreak is seen as a big ask. Past behaviour is an indication of future behaviour. I see zero reason to expect Gamefreak to learn from their many mistakes when they've been continuously rewarded with record breaking sales.
That's what I'm saying. Can they and should they be better and give us what the fans actually deserve? Yes, without a shadow of a doubt. They can and should, if they put in literally any amount of effort into the game. But they don't have to because it's the best selling video game franchise on the planet and they simply have no incentive to put time and resources into it if it's just going to sell like hot cakes and they make hundreds of millions off of it either way. It's sad. They've turned Pokemon into a money printing machine that will still print money even if the thing is actively falling apart
I think an encouraging sign is that the flaws of Gen 9 are FIXABLE. The good aspects of Pokemon Gen 9 (and in the 2020's rally) have me quite excited, BUT they ofc have to fix their issues.
Yeah there are some positives in Gen 9 for sure. Just a shame they got completely buried by all of the other issues.
I don't think anyone would really care for a good single player campaign on the long run since the game is made to play with other people (competitively). More than anything, I hope they work things out in the online department since the quality of the online play is very bad. I'd like to keep as many characters as possible, but there are definitely characters that feel redundant at this point (for example Ike-Roy-Chrom-Lucina-Marth), so thinning them out or reworking them would be nice.
It's just that there are too many blind Pokemon fans that call every Pokemon Game perfect. I don't see myself quitting Pokemon anytime soon but...the games are so unbearably ugly. I just want the franchise to be great.
I loved the 3ds games for the charm. Unfortunately, gamefreak didn't get the memo that the 3DS has been obsolete since 2017.
@dualie-dude-42 Sun & Moon were kinda mid but Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon were so good. I loved these games to hell and back. I loved how easy it was to professionally train pokemon and the battle tree and all that. The music was so great, too. Loved megas, too. Oras was great, too. Loved flying over the world.
I just started Violet for the first time and your points are incredibly obvious from the start. The direction the games are headed are exactly what we all have wanted. But the constant 15 FPS and 480P graphics is definitely not okay for a triple a game
Idc about mainstream games. Where's our spin offs? Where's my pmd that goes past gen 4 mons? Can't wait for them to patent the designs of more household items as pokemon.
For gen 10 I only want things that have already been done. Let's go level graphics (the characters don't need to be chibi tho). SV and PLA level of storytelling PLA level of playing mechanics and features. If they make that mix, let's go, PLA and SV, they'll make a really good game for gen 10, I'll love it, and it won't take something that they can't already do!
They will probs F it up.
gen9 was "streamlined" and too easy to play through.... although my last pkmn-game was silver. didnt like that the shop and pkmn-center was together and it looks like they want to sell you something to eat, npc-trainers not want to battle you even they have seen you, changing your monsters via menu from box to your team and vice vera and not from the pc goes also to the rp issue and too easy and streamlined issue. legend arceus was better imo
Agreed, they've also seemingly had more development time available to them for gen 10, you can't convince me that they were working solely on the DLC for scarlet and violet once they came out, they definitely worked on them side by side so at minimum they will have had 3 years to work on gen 10. I'm hoping with Legends ZA they will actually not release gen 10 this year and instead give it an additional year to make it the kind of game we deserve.
People like yourself also said they would fix the bugs when the DLCs dropped. They never bothered. You can give them all the development time in the world. But datamining and end products have proved time and time again that there's a lot of untalented developers making very bad code. Simply look at the last 11 years of Pokemon. Over a decade of 1 trick pony gimmicks, phasing out of features. Simplifying already simple mechanics. Lowering the difficulty of games that were already easy. Half measures on remakes: all of BDSP, lack of battle tower in ORAS and poor level balancing. The 100 Lilys in Gen 7's code among in addition to lag and chugging on the 3DS hardware. Day 1 gamebreaking glitches in XY and a scrapped postgame + sequel. The disaster that was Gen 8's map, story and the lies Gamefreak told about why Dexit was happening. And then of course Gen 9's complete coding failure and Empty Open world map, with "Building interiors" added to the list of phased out content. When other Nintendo properties and other companies in the same genre are able to do better, on the same hardware: you need to ask yourself why you think this company has any reason to do better, when despite doing all of the above, they have been rewarded with record breaking profits, year after year?
Wouldnt exactly call 21million copies sold underrated, but still i agreed with every point u made.
For me: Botw i have played over 500 hrs in a span of 5 years Totk i have played over 600 hrs in a span of 1 1/2 years Totk is a perfection of what botw wanted to be. Only thing i do miss are fighting the guardians. Loved reflecting the lasers back at them and cutting their legs lol
I agree on principle, but I think you spent too long playing it. 15hrs and you're only in the middle I don't know but that feels like a long time to me, especially if you are only willing to use armadillo and and old beds. If you go faster and explore more you'll come across other tools that speed up your progress in the game. E.g. self lifting platform. Cloud platforms. Floating tile. And some overpowered baddies that you can then use in your arsenal. I liked to experiment with different baddies but mostly I think you need to push on and in the end my main criticism isn't the echoes, but how the game is too easy once you have the better echoes. I was bypassing puzzles/areas with ease and then going back and doing the puzzles/re-exploring the long route cause that's what I love. Plus there's the horse. Big plus
A brilliant retrospective. I'm playing BotW for the first time. I'm absolutely loving it! What an incredible game. TotK is going to blow my mind, when I play this next. Thank you! 👌💙
I'm a caveman.
I enjoy the place BotW and TotK exist in the Zelda franchise, but I'm ready for a different direction. Make dungeons great again!
Glad to find positivity video, the game is amazing... Its tiring seen people saying that "there is nothing to do in the game and its empty" when at 100 hours mark i wasnt even halfway the game becouse the insane amout if things to do and explore... Make me question the way they play games Endless complain is become internet favorite sport.
Dude, this is such a good video. Was shocked to find out that you're a smaller channel! Keep it up please!
Thanks man! Comments like this keep me going!
1:40 you might have issues with your switch then. I have the Switch oled, I run it in docked mode onto my PC monitor 2nd input, I have ZERO frame drops. 6:45 there's no way you beat the game with only 4-5 echoes (unless any % glitched speed run). That just isn't a thing.
Not beat they are halfway through that said. 15 hours in.
Ive beat the game and where i did enjoy myself? I feel very similarly to you, the game is fun but with the caveat that it feels like a chore due to the echo system. I was also hoping for something more in line with Tears of the Kingdom but in a mini version but what i got? Well, we did get that but it wasnt as fun as TotK and i partially believe thats due to the physics engine of both BotW and TotK. Doing something in my own way feels great in TotK/BotW because im exploiting physics in way that feel believable (liking using a fan to blow away wind piles or a rocket to propel Link) where in EoW, something about using a spider to skip all of Hebra just felt wrong to me lol. TotK and BotW, for as open as they are, have a lot of limitations in place so the player isnt too OP...EoW? The second you get beds, you can skip everything for the most part. I still enjoyed the game but I definitely see why this is the lowest rated mainline Zelda game. Great video as always, glad to see you made a video on EoW
Yeah, the echos organization is... Bad. Come on Nintendo! How many times do you need fans to complain about your clunky UI before you fix it? As for combat... I almost never use swordfighter mode! I find other ways to fight when I want to fight, but honestly, just like every other Zelda game in existence, unless I'm locked in a room with enemies, I just run past everything. Combat in Zelda never has been really good. Twilight Princes probably had the best combat, and that's only because of the fancy moves you can learn. I don't know what it is, but I have not noticed any frame rate issues at all on my Switch. Maybe I just can't see that unless it's really atrocious! 🤷♀
I disagree about TP having good combat. It has flashy moves for sure but enemy AI also plays into whether or not I think combat is good in a game and when most enemies stand around and wait to be attacked? Link's flashy moves don't mean anything. I feel TotK/BotW have the best combat in the series due to enemy AI and all the wild stuff you can do and how enemies react to it.
@@chooongusbug724 I didn't say it was good. I said it was better than most Zelda games which *all* have kind of boring combat. But I don't play them for the combat system.
@@pixywings and I'm saying I disagree that it's better than the other Zelda game's combat because the enemy AI is painfully dumb, just standing around and waiting to be attacked 🤷♀️
Wait, you didn't use the sea urchins or the instant hit sidewalking crabs? Both feel like actually hitting yourself.
I use the spinning Buzzsaw things more than anything!
Complains about using only 4-5 echoes, but also complaining that there is no option to make a favorites list of 4-5 echoes. Pleas make op your mind! Also the Echoes combat is great. Dealing indrect damage is a very welcome change to a game that hasn't changed in almost 40 years. And sure Nintendo could've left the Swordfighter form out of it. But you don't really have to use it either (except for some few points). But then you have to use the echoes, which you also hate. So, again, make up your mind about it. Only thing I would've changed is make 2 bars of echoes. One for enemies and one for 'tools' and allow the user to swap them in the menu (open menu and then up and down). Because tools I often use the same echoes. But for enemies I sort by level.
Echoes of Middom fans getting salty people don't agree it's fantastic. It's the lowest rated main line Zelda game for a reason
@@chooongusbug724i find the sword fighting mode kind of a bummer. I preferred the echoes so was actually kind of annoyed when the game sometimes forced me to use link. I'm here for a new experience so forget link for now guys
Considerin how badly the ps5 has sucked this year, and how Xbox continues to suck balls, it woulda been the perfect year for the Switch 2, but Nintendo dropped the ball on that, massively!
I honestly don’t give a crap about the echo system. Scrolling is easy. Just sort the right category out, and done. Same with TotK. And yes, I do also find combat a bit annoying. I agree with that. But I (brace yourselves i’m gonna rant a LOT.) find it weird that people only say that EOW only has one problem. To me, I feel like it has a lot of them. First flaw. Dungeons. This will be INSANELY controversial because I think linear dungeons are bad. (not actually in general, but i personally think the linear system in EOW specifically* is bad) For example, Jabul Ruins (the zora dungeon) is the worst out of the 5 I’ve played so far. It’s only go in a hole, go through the cave, press button, go through another, repeat. That’s the entire dungeon. (in bare bones explanation) Suthorn Ruins is a extremely underwhelming tutorial dungeon. To me, it lacks the complexity of the Wind Temple in TotK. The puzzles have only one step. Basically no progression puzzle. Both the progression and puzzles of it are simple. No central room, no backtracking, no multi-step puzzles to unlock a small key or terminal (small point here: terminals ARE replacements for small keys, so you guys shouldn’t yap about modern dungeons being trash) just straightforward. Takes 3 mins to complete. Gerudo Sanctum is good, but still has the flaws of Suthorn Ruins. Too straightforward, no central room and just OK puzzles) Hyrule Castle is.. I guess counts as a mini dungeon? Like TotK’s Hyrule Castle, it lacks complex puzzles and progression. But that doesn’t mean it’s not a dungeon. I just think it’s supposed to be NOT a full-fledged dungeon. And Eldin Temple also just suffers from that. In conclusion, the dungeons of EOW are extremely linear, and solving a puzzle in those dungeons don’t have the same satisfaction as in TotK. TotK’s dungeons use teasing, multistep puzzles to enhance the satisfaction of players when solving those puzzles. So yeah. That’s why I think TotK’s mixture of Open-Air, Linear and Both Together dungeon design is the way to go. NOT going with the linear route where all dungeons are the same: linear, straightforward and boring.
But honestly, you deserve way more views. I love TH-camrs who make good and insightful analyses on games. I’m the person that commented on your TotK vid. (About GSI and the dungeons) And I’m gonna say it again, you deserve so much more than this. Thanks for this video mate!
Agree with you. Dungeons were WAAY too easy. I came for the puzzles and the echoes give a perfect opportunity to make some crazy unique puzzles. Just get the same puzzle over and over in a very simplistic way. Not complex or good :(
You mention the problem with the scrolling mechanic of the echos, and I agree that there should be a favorites option. But how would you solve the problem overall? You say something along the lines of "there should be a grid system". Which there is, you simply hit start to get a grid system as shown in your video. I don't disagree with anything you are saying, but if you are making a video like this then I think you should provide the solution as you see it.
They said a favourites system. On the easy select screen/menu screen select some favourites. Then on easy select you would just have another option for favourites so you could find the few in there that you love to use
Breath of the Wild is a better game. In an open-world game, the world is the obstacle the player has to overcome. The underground is very good in Tears of the Kingdom in that respect, but it's also pretty repetitive. Like, it's a lot of the same. And the overworld in Totk is just not as good of an obstacle compared to botw.
Agreed on all these points. Overall I enjoyed it, and overall I'm a little disappointed. Considering the complaints about the arrow attachment selection menu in TOTK, felt like an opportunity was missed here for the echoes menu. Particularly irritating when a situation calls for an echo you rarely use, and that in the endgame, collecting those final echoes leaves your "last learned" category filled with weird junk. Enjoy the lore but wouldn't mind a break from Hyrule in the next installment.
BotW vs Totk is like Fullmetal Alchemist 2003 vs Brotherhood. The more traditional elements of plot and story are far stronger in the latter, and for most people they will be the definitive editions. But the former excels at atmosphere and characterization in a way the busier follow up never could, and so to me there's a place for both. The intentions with both were so obviously different that it feels unfair to compare them by any one metric.
The issue is and why the game has basically faded into obscurity is because TOTK wasn't an upgrade to BOTW, it was a side grade. For all intense and purposes, TOTK is essentially just BOTW DLC... For $70 😂. I hate to say it (because i bought it), but its true, after about 50 hours i decided im just playing BOTW with other stuff.
Skyward sword is better than both botw and totk
These games suck. We need dungeons, puzzles, storyline and the triforce
Nintendo sponsored video that glazes a lazy corporate cash grab game.
its overrated. since when is this game underrated LOL?
It’s underrated. since when is this game overrated LOL?
I think the only reason why I enjoy botw more is just because I know how to install mods for it, if I didn’t then I’d 100% prefer totk
survivor and Spiderman 2 most enjoyable games for me last year
Master sword was weaker in TOTK than BOTW and that pissed me off
Counterpoint : fuse weapons.
yeah but you can attatch anything to it, so its far more capable than it ever was in TOTK
