Contrary to what some viewers have reported below, the film is not that bad. You cannot compare with Hrishikesh Mukherjee's Anupama, Satyakam, Bawarchi or Khoobsurat; however the movie manages to engage you. This was perhaps one of the last movies of Madan Puri - in the last scene, his dummy has been used. Amol Palekar in an action packed role is slightly unconvincing (because of his screen image) but to his credit, he has done justice to his part. Raj Babbar and Rekha display good screen chemistry. Deven Verma's acting is really good and there is a regret that we don't have actors like him today. Similar to Mukherjee's 1966 tear jerker Anupama, Jhooti also has a few scenes where the lead actors go to a hill station for a picnic. Songs are just about okay - except the "chanda" song and "bhaaga bhaaga" song. Prema Narayan, Shammi, Dina Pathak, Manmaujee, Suresh Chatwal and Goga Kapoor lend good support. Supriya Pathak is petite and manages a striking screen presence without much effort. Rasik Dave, who is Sharman Joshi's behnoi, made his debut with this movie. He reminds you of Raj Kiran. Being a stage actor, he too has done commendable work. It is so sad that he did not do many Hindi movies. Overall, a pretty decent movie that carries a message that a lie that can save a life is better than truth.

The best part of Hrishikesh Mukherjee has always been the simple ordinary life,but this one is a bit exaggerated towards the end like a typical Hindi movies which always need a bit of melodrama,fight scenes etc
