Jason Genova is on juice and look at what he has accomplished. Actor, Personal Trainer, AC Mechanic, Amateur MMA Athlete, and Top Chef.Has impressive bodybuilding genetics. Can bench press 1200 pounds, squat 2000 pounds, and dead lift a elephant with ease. All this of course before his 6 car accidents, 12 plane crashes, 7 UFO probes, 5 Titanic sinks, 13 ebola cases, and 4 Skydiving accidents with no parachutes. He also has slight SLIGHT autism, maybe 1% with ADD, OCD, NWA, ACDC, TNT, TLC, DMX and Run DMC.

bugenhagen, as a long time fan, please consider being transparent about your no-longer-natty state in another talk video like this. we all know you are juiced since the injury AND THATS OK!
folks trust you. you could share what youve learned from the stack and how to go about it from your perspective. it would really open up the conversation if more athletes approached the topic from a state of pride, rather than shame and you could circle back to your thesis in this video where you are clearly natty. no pressure. i imagine you are worried about how it would effect the "mindset" aspect of your personal brand. imo its just another piece of the mindset, rather than a crutch for it.
    please give it some thought!

It's because steroids are unsustainable. You can't roid 24/7 all the time all year. You can keep lifting but once you're off, you ARE going to lose the muscle, and will be smaller until you get more steroids into your body again. Eating food is easy and very common obviously and necessary for life so it is all you if you are natural, steroids are a direct hormonal profile modulator and so you get your muscle's cellular resources depending COMPLETELY on the use of exogenous testosterone

Good deal man. Women don’t care about that crap anyway, it’s us dudes who want the muscles and like the muscles. Once you get past a base level of muscularity (like Patrick Swayze or Mark Wahlberg) women just don’t care about it. Generally, being lean is way more important than being huge, and not even crazy lean, just ~15% body fat with 10-20lbs more muscle than most people (couple three years to gain) and you’ll be in the top 1% on the planet.

I have had friends who've taken steroids for like vanity and it kind of stops you from making any progress. You take it, be big for like 2-3 months, come off, get small again. Get tired of making no gains natty, go back on, get to about as big as you were before and come off again. That way you are never really making any progress because you just get discouraged when training natural after. It also makes it hard to tell what is actual working and what isn't in terms of training because you'll get bigger and stronger doing just about any garbage routine on the sauce then be convinced you know what you're talking about.
I on the other hand have been making slow, steady progress and have only looked better and better through the years.

I'll add my $.02 for all of the young folks that are on the fence. I started my physique cultivation in the 90s at age 22 or so. I was 5'8'' and 160 and my goal was 180. I had the notion that I was a hard gainer but I was curious about what my potential was and wanted to suss that out before getting into the harder stuff. My idea was that I was just going to hit it hard, eat like crazy, and use the mirror as my guide. I didn't weigh myself for 6 months. As it turned out, I was wrong about being a hard gainer and I had blown past my 180 goal and hit 205. All along that process I was accused of taking everything under the sun. I was ambivalent, as I found it both encouraging and insulting. As I continued I just kept getting bigger and bigger until I lost interest at about 30. At this time I was about 230 and looked pretty lean. During my 30s I did Kung Fu and went back to playing baseball, but I really didn't lift anymore. When I remarried my wife and I started hitting the gym. She had a desire to get into shape and I saw the nonsense she was doing to get there as a huge waste of time. So I told her I would train her. By this time, I was basically just big at about 250. So 12 years after I quit lifting I go back into the process. To my surprise I'd lost basically no muscle and within a few months I was stronger than I had been in my 20s.
I'm now 48 and just learned in the past year that my T is shot. Not primary, but secondary, so the testes are still functional, but the pituitary has ceased to produce enough FSH/LH. This pissed me off royally because I had intentionally tried to set myself up to prevent this. Now, you can choose what you believe, but I'm telling you my "lived experience" here (I hate that term). In my 30s, around 35 or so, I started seeing a new doc and he wanted a complete workup. When the T results came back he asked what I was on. I replied, "I'm not even working out, why would I be on anything?" It's fuzzy but I seem to remember my levels being around 1000 ng/dl; pretty close to the top of ridiculously wide "normal" range. This made sense to me when I remembered that I had developed a minor case of gyno in 20s... NATURALLY! Surgery had been scheduled for about 3 months out and I quit lifting and it just went away on its own. My dad was in his 50s at the time and had literally just gone under the knife for the same thing and no one would ever think he is on gear. He's in the strong for his size but not muscular category. In speaking to my new doc, it appears that combinations of stress and other factors have resulted in me burning out my system (HPG axis). I'm a proponent of HIT (Mentzer, Arthur Jones) and have always trained to failure in the 8-12 rep range. So maybe that wasn't the wisest in terms of my endocrine health, but I did get big AF. I'm now on HRT and the we're still dialing in the dosage. Currently my level is around 600. I don't yet feel like myself even from a year or two ago yet, but it's better.
Having said all of that, I took great pride in being natural for all of those years. Back in the 90s Muscular Development made a switch to become All-Natural Muscular Development. I applauded this move and subscribed immediately. As a result, they almost went out of business. I looked up to guys like Skip Lacour, Mike O'Hearn (who knows now but back in the day it wasn't questioned), and even early Ronnie Coleman. My advice is to be true to yourself. You know what you've done and not done. I used to walk around the gym with a chip on my shoulder for having been really close to or better than a lot of guys that were on the juice. I never competed because I just lost interest. I knew the drugs were there and I could always make that leap, it just never turned out that I needed to. My current weight is 280 or so. I'm keen to lean out and if I feel I've done enough, maybe I'll look at competing once. I don't care if I win, I just want to feel like I belong up there.
I just found this channel but really like what you're doing and you have my sub.

I bounced at bars for 10 years as a "skinny Natty" training MMA (various combat sports at different points),
Almost EVERY bouncer, and almost EVERY bro we kicked out, was on roids. Almost no one knew how to actually fight.
And these bouncers would lose 20, 30 pounds on a two week vacation. They would get depressed, do a bunch of blow and viagara, drink a ton, get back on cycle and have to straighten out. I can't imagine letting my emotional well-being be controlled by chemical dependency.
But on other side, everyone tests the skinny bouncer 😉

I was going to object your last sentence until I saw you beat me to it!
Being in NYC, and used to bartend there, there are *tons* of all kinds of bars and it's interesting what you see. In Jersey you often see bars employing local wrestler kids, who would be by far the best at actually handling a physical confrontation but are (quite correctly) rarely used in NYC. Looking so impressive they don't even think about acting up in the first place is the ultimate goal; and a young-looking jacked manlet often fails to gain that effect and can even provoke idiots to test whether they can take the shorty! In NYC you try to get the biggest NFL lineman looking motherfuckers you can afford. The funniest are gay bars, which can get creative with bouncers because gay dudes do not really get seriously rowdy; I bartended at one place that had a huge-ass lesbian as head bouncer and also at NYC's most popular gay club that had a bunch of short handsome Puerto Rican kids mean mugging in wifebees chains and fitted caps!

Totally agree, general population is very different from bodybuilding world (especially internet). I am 6‘2“-6‘3“ and only about 190 pounds(upper body dominant tho so might look a tad bigger waist up- i am working on my legs tho, gyms have just closed where i lift due to corona and i get really sick of doing 100s of bw squats), so nowhere near my potential and even i have been getting compliments. Honestly, especially women, appreciate much smaller physics that are lean, its just the dudes that get a hard on for hugeness (which is fair, i admire it aswell haha and it is my goal, but just saying). If you only converse online in these circles you tend to lose perspective.

Interesting to hear The Stick's 6-years-ago response on this. Personally I think if people want to juice, there's no shame in it, it's not cheating or fake, it's just a trade-off you make, accepting the risk of side effects, etc. But in my personal view, I train mostly for aesthetics and secondly for health, and I think the most aesthetic physiques are within a naturally achievable range (and most women agree with me on that). So for me personally, it makes sense to stay natty. But I don't have "pride" about it, I just think it's the best choice given my goals and priorities. I empathize with guys whose dream physique or dream strength is only possible with anabolics, that puts you in a difficult place of needing to decide if the trade-offs are worth it.

  • @dude157
    @dude157 6 ปีที่แล้ว +18

I think as long as someone is being honest about their drug use, it's not an issue. Some steroid users train incredibly hard and there can still be a lot to learn from them. I tend not to worry how I stack up against other people, there's always going to be someone more jacked, stronger and faster, natty or not. You can only control what you do yourself. Steroids work, but they aren't a replacement for good genetics, good diet and hard work. Don't think if a person just take steroids they will end up like Eric Lilliebridge. It's not going to happen. Unless you do all the other things correctly, probably just going end up bald with acne and gyno. Someone using steroids only becomes a problem for me if a person is using them in a sport where they are banned or if they are lying about their use in order to profit some way such as to sell you false hope with a training program or legal supplement.
