Nitin Gadkari's big announcement: Say bye-bye to diesel vehicles or face unviable taxation

- The government will look at imposing additional taxes to restrict sale of diesel vehicles unless automakers voluntarily move away from the fuel, Minister of Road, Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari (MoRTH) said. Speaking at the 63rd Annual Convention of Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) Gadkari said he would propose that the Ministry of Finance levy 10% additional GST on diesel driven vehicles to curb use of the fuel.

Usi saved payse se achha khana Kharid k khaale, investment kar, business kar, gold diamond Kharid k rakh, jyada kaam ayega, petrol diesel jala k nawabi karne se bahtar hay.
Did not expect the minister to even think of such a move. This would result in great trouble and unnecessary expense to the common man.
Mind you all essentials would go up drastically within no time.
Just a few months to the Assembly polls and people are definitely going to think about who to vote.

Exactly it's dumb, instead of making natural fuel cheaper, they're making petrol and diesel more expensive to stop people from buying it and forcing them to buy expensive alternatives, it's all about money for these guys.

Petrol Cars running is expensive , Diesel cars -they don't want common man to buy , EV there is no infrastructure . Govt has no clear vision for future.
Even if the infrastructure is improved it will be a big mess, according to our density of population.
Why don't MPs, MLAs surrender their pensions, and their expensive VIP perks, large Government cars? Lots of savings there ...
Let him first get EVs to cost less, and set up EV charging stations in same numbers as petrol/diesel pumps. Then we will pay the extra tax.
Its been about 10yrs i am using cng car.
Still its wasting my about half hour average on filling cng even in city like navi mumbai.
After so many yrs still sufficient fuel stations not provided.
I am buying diesel car from this frustrations of low pickup, low range.

Petrol is are highly inflammable unlike diesel. It catches fire during accidents and risky during storage. Battery vehicles are very costly and still not dependsble and there is fire hazard. Small petrol vehicles have very less torque and so difficult to drive in cities. I think Army uses a large number of diesel vehicles. So don't change. Think about any new technology to decrease pollusion. Also think about turbo petrol engines.

Sir,we appreciate your each and every initiative but we are not agree with you sir for this,we will oppose this scheme from the bottom to top.....first you need to create infra for charging stations and ethanol station then you have the right to implement this scheme...we are very sad to after this scheme of yours....first decrease the taxes & tell these things to automobile industry then apply this to people...we are under too much taxex and you are again planning to F_ck us.

I love every idiotic move this party makes. Now common man will have to face more serious problems. I'm sooo happy and crying that these guys are happy seeing how people suffer.
Think of villages without, even electricity in 2023. Some cities get regular power cuts even now.
So, the "great idea" is to use more than double or triple times the coal to generate power -> force people to buy useless electric vehicles(I'm sure Ambani or Adani will open a new electric venture of vehicles and the contract will go to them of course) and say we are clean energy. See... we run electric vehicles! Ok...where does the power for electricity come from?...coal..lol!
Not to mention price increases of various things because of this. Food, commodities, clothes, electronics, travels, and fuel..

Yeah kill the jobs of poor taxi drivers... Diesel engines are the bread and butter of professional drivers as Diesel Engine cars are more long lasting and require less maintenance compared to petrol engines

First stop selling polluting diesel transportation systems - Diesel locomotives (WDP5), diesel autos - highlty noisy and polluting, old diesel city buses, old diesel trucks and tractors. Stop that 30% diesel transport sector first by 2027. Passenger car pollution is not a big deal, these transport vehicles never service their vehicles and keep polluting all the time!
SIR, please do a discourse on feasibility of ban on vehicles older than 10 - 15 years, especially in New Delhi NCR. Reason for asking is why California in the US and with the stringiest pollution norms still allows vehicles older than 50 years to ply on the roads. Give valid reasons else, you sound like in cahoots with the car industry

Dear Mr. Gadakari Sir.. EVs are good for rich people not for middle class family.
Bring flex fuel solution first, then come to media for showoff.. bcs we all know , EVs are not the right solution to decrease polution.
ICE engines are also not good for pollution but good for our pocket bcs once you puchase an ICE engine vehicle, you just have to put the fuel and run and do maintenance on time thats it. But in case of EV, its batteries has to be replace after few years and the cost is ridiculously high.
Suppose I am purchasing an EV paying 20Lakh. After 5-6 years the battery will degrade and give poor range if I run frequently or it may get damage if I run my EV rarely. Then I have to replace another battery and cost will be around 60-70 % of the vehicle price which is near to 14 - 15 lakh 😂😂.
So why middle class people would purchase EV and waste their hard earned money every few year ??
Why don't you force automobile companies to develop flex fuel ??

i am not going with pollution, bio, ethanol etc. but what type of decision is this.. being a big car lover who is thinking about scorpio, scorpio n , Fortuner and many more but your decision make all go into dead.. i do not want to own a petrol or Ev car or any other car which not having that much power like a diesel car.. and if you are talking about Ev also,, where is the infrastructure.. if you are going to a very deep village area you will not even get a mechanic some time.. and you are talking about a Ev,, i am not able to make my own charging station.. i do not want to wait 45 minute -1 hour some where just to charge my car battery.. i do not want to think about the mileage like petrol car , less power like petrol car or just thinking about breakdown in EV or charging issue... i want to enjoy my driving .. want to enjoy my trip... your are just threatening common people ,, and making things more expensive ...if you are that much concerned first increased per capita income,, increase infra more ,,, ask the car manufacturer to make a car which is as powerful as diesel car...and let the common people take the decision which car they want to drive. why you are trying to force people. at the time of development America , china all this country make 4-5X pollution than India. it is good to be concerned but forcing people for change is misuse of power. we are giving road tax, RTO charges, some addition of charges and even after that you are here to force us which car we should buy... a family person is buying a car is big thing, but you people are saying " buying car is good but it will stay with you only for 10-15 year" ,, what is this .. from where he is going to buy a new car every after 10-15 year.. leave the money aside when you are telling someone to scrap him/ her car after 10-15 year its like telling a father or mother to scrap their son/ daughter.. it not good at all...
