People have privilege whether they want it or not. They didn't do anything to get it, but they do have it and that needs to be acknowledged. So to say that pointing out male privilege is akin to asking men to feel guilty is simply false. It's the same way that whites have tried to deny their racial privilege, and we called bs on them for that. Why is this any different? Shadi Hamid is Egyptian-American, so I'm disappointed that he doesn't get it.
It’s not a “privilege” to be treated normally. Some groups are DISADVANTAGED. Using language like male privilege is absurdly foolish and we’re seeing the results of that. The focus should be that x group is being treated wrong, why are we saying the group receiving the treatment that should be standard is “privileged”.
Why do they have to acknowledge it? Why is it their problem? The only reason to do so is because you want something from them but don't want to contribute anything in return. Which is basically what modern civilization is and why men are rejecting it.
