I have a knee brace but have only submitted this form once in the last 13 years because the requirements from my VA RO seemed to change from year to year. The first time they wanted the form and a copy of the original prosthetic prescription. The next year they wanted me to bring in my actual worn clothing so they could see the wear and tear themselves. In service I received two knee braces and now traveling 5 1/2 hours one way just to show them my clothing for this one time annual benefit was no longer worth it. Others on FB have said similar things how their VA offices move the measuring needle on what does and doesn't qualify and it just gets frustrating to say the least.
Sorry never heard of having to show your clothes. Have you ever thought of taking the form to your prosthetics department and not filing it as a claim?
@@VAClaims-VHV - The Prosthetics Department is 5 1/2 hours away (one way). It's just not worth traveling just to be told the requirements are in addition to regular policy. Other vets have had similar issues with the VA making additional requirements that go beyond normal publicized policy.
@@joecochran7797 I understand the VBA denials a lot but you can certainly secure message prosthetics and submit that way. I have been doing it for years, and I always send it to prosthetics b/c they issued the devices my doctor prescribed. Just my .02 to try and give you another option.
Hey Ms Stephanie! Do you know about when the VA will be paying out all the claims for clothing allowance for the yr or 2023? I submitted my forms back in July and haven’t heard a peep from them as of yet. Thanks for any info or updates you provide.
How do I know which knee and back brace I use. I don’t see a number on them anywhere. Also, does a cream have to be red on that list in order to qualify? I’m confused as to whether Lidocaine 5% qualifies.
The heating pad is no - if you look at the link in the description section it has the medication link you can see if your medication is YES or NO. If yes, you can file for one clothing allowance.

That was for 2022 and payments went out starting in August. Who did you submit your form to? Prosthetics?

There will be a YES next to the cream. Call prosthetics and ask them to look up your profile and ask what is the brand name and when they were issues.

No, taking medications isn't what clothing allowance is. The clothing allowance is for devices or creams that destroy your clothes.
Are menthol cream and heating pad plug in qualified?

I guess custom insoles for plantar fasciitis is not included.
Correct they do not qualify for clothing allowance. They must destroy clothing.
