I've been listening to this over and over since I lost my 21 year old daughter 5 months ago to cancer - I miss all the times I would have had with her and all the life she could have had - she's still with me in many ways. This song is somehow incredibly cathartic - thank you, guys.
“Love never dies.... Inspired speech will be over some day; praying in tongues will end; understanding will reach its limit. We know only a portion of the truth, and what we say about God is always incomplete. But when the Complete arrives, our incompletes will be canceled. When I was an infant at my mother’s breast, I gurgled and cooed like any infant. When I grew up, I left those infant ways for good. We don’t yet see things clearly. We’re squinting in a fog, peering through a mist. But it won’t be long before the weather clears and the sun shines bright! We’ll see it all then, see it all as clearly as God sees us, knowing him directly just as he knows us! But for right now, until that completeness, we have three things to do to lead us toward that consummation: Trust steadily in God, hope unswervingly and love extravagantly. And the greatest of the three is love.” 1 Corinthians 13:8-13
You’re doing a great job. All hugs from everyone who comes across your words, your wee girl was blessed to have such a wonderful and strong parent [hugs from all the good people]
When he says ''I'll wait up in the dark for you to speak to me I'll open up release me" I get chills and tears every time. Reminds me of my old man. Love you dad.
Same here !! Lost my dad when I was very young and as I got a little older, I thought if I stayed up late while mom and sis slept, that he would come speak to me !! When I first heard song in 1992 I couldn’t believe it, I thought song was written for me 15 years younger - kills me everytime I hear it
@Danny-se8oi. I waited for decades for my father to give me a nocturnal visit. Then I lost my mother and thought I’d receive one and still no visit. A few years later I was going in for a few serious surgeries and there were my parents appearing before me in a dream they didn’t say anything to me but then I saw my grandmother and grandpa who was always my pal. I thought I was going to cross over to the other side but grandpa gave me a look and with that look I knew that everything was going to be fine and I made a full recovery. Others who I’ve spoken to since have told me that’s what usually happens. Our lost parents and grandparents come to us when we need us most in our most challenging times to assure us that we’re going to be okay.
This song was the last song on “Ten”. I’m 1991, I was 15 & I’d to listen to the cd every night so that this would be the last song I heard before I slept. It was like a meditation.
Feel you, almost been three years since I lost my Dad. I played this song at his celebration of life. This tune truly carried me through some really difficult times.
Sorry man. I feel your pain in the other side of the world as if it were mine. I lost my dad ten years ago now. Ten, like the name of the album that contains this song. This must mean true force and brotherhood from me to you. I send this to you with the grace of big music. 💚
Heard this song for the first time in the opening and close of "Out of the Furnace". Can't stop listening to it...one of the most moving songs I've ever come across. Tearing up reading the comments of everyone here who has lost someone and gotten beautiful bittersweet catharsis from this song. Out of the Furnace is am amazing movie which I can highly recommend, shot in Braddock in my hometown, Pittsburgh PA.
This song soothes my soul. I lost my entire family. It's hard to even want to carry on let alone find my way in this crazy world. But this song helps me.

On tenclub site is written "birds in the rain" however Eddie always said "verse in the rain" which totally makes more sense than birds!... "I see the world, feel the chill, which way to go, windowsill, I see the words on a rocking horse of time, I see the verse in the rain" that's my interpretation.
Last year was very hard for me. I was living in another country, almost completely alone and dealing with personal dillemas and grief. This song helped me hang in there several times. I'm not a religious person, but whenever I listen to it I like to think I have a feeling similar to those who pray asking for strength. As a matter of fact, this is the most incredible power of art: comfort our existence. Besides the high emotional performance conveyed by Eddie Vedder singing about his dad (thus talking about relevant family and psychological issues we all can relate to), to me this song also represents that mixed feeling when we know we have to endure painful times, but desperately hoping for them to go away: "I'll hold the pain, release me". This year I got this sentence tattooed on my chest. And today was again one of those tough days when I needed to listen to Release.
His lungs and resonance are so impressive. Almost like the feeling you get from a gong, or a gregorian chant or some other religious or meditational sounds. So full of soul and power. Wonderful recording. ⚡
Look at the beautiful crowd just swaying their arms in harmony. Deep shit. Everyone on the same connection. No cell phones. Just the present. Just the love 💜🍻😔
2022 and this still hits as fresh, deep, and, raw as it did back in 92. Just goes to show how great this version is and what a great song Release still is.
One amazing fact is that this song was never written, it came to Eddy totally improvised in a rehearsal, this is really pure raw art, his singing his pain out from the depth of his soul
There's something essentially broken in Eddie that he conveys to the broken parts of us. This is one of the purest musical performances I've heard. It's like Joe Cocker at Woodstock.
@jaystubbs1355 Cheers bro 🍻 That song is a plea for acceptance and validation from his Father.. Something that we've all wanted at least once in our lives. Some still yearn for it. That song hits every one of us in the gut

I remember Pearl Jam being good in 1992 but as the years roll by, it is becoming clear what a megaband they actually were. That Ten album is a masterpiece. This song, "Release Me" is my favorite.
Release!!# The pearl jam memorabilia classic tryst from the 'Ten,' LP. The young vedder's pipes just resonate live, eddie 's vocal range changes the fantastic four from four basic characters to evidently something much larger but then erick von doom became larger himself. Then along came one of my marvel favorites 'The silver surfer.'
The way Eddie grabs that mic and sways back and forth is like he’s dancing with a beautiful woman. This mans stage presence is unlike any other singer ever!
I agree Eddie has a stage presence that is so captivating. Raw and real. Floor Jansen is the female I find most captivating... th-cam.com/video/1Xi4n8dJcF8/w-d-xo.html Oh how I wish they could do a duet together :)
Literally one of the best songs ever! Lost my dad a few years ago, and even though I’ve been listening to this since it was released… it really hits different now.
I lost my grandfather last year march & Im still crying to this day. This song cleanses my soul & helps me cope. Thank god we have the privilege of music in our life to get through tough times. I just closed my eyes & cried my eyes out while drinking a glass of wine & reliving all those precious memories. Someday in the future I plan to release a vocal cover of this beatiful song in remembrance of my grandfather. May you rest in peace !
I just introduced this song to my 80yr old friend. He said, “incredible! This vocalist perfectly emulates the tone of bagpipes!” I can’t unhear that and I love it. It seems like gravity itself is pushing the sound out of him, he’s completely just allowing that to happen. I can’t stop listening and I never will.
Bud rodriguez I’m a huge fan, so many beautiful songs Release and Black OMG are played everyday all day, at work there stuck in my head. . Pearl Jam is a awesome Band, Eddie voice is so amazing and so powerful.

Você se tornou esse homem incrível, um pai maravilhoso e orgulhoso. Espero que todos esses sentimentos estejam em paz dentro de você, querido Eddie!
This song gets me every time, that build. I haven't even lost my father yet, though this is the song I imagine playing during his eulogy. And I'm so deeply sorry for those that have lost their father, I don't wish to cheapen that in any way.
i lost my father not because he passed away, just because of a divorce, what i feel about him was already sung in "my father's son" especially the third verses (even if he's still alive lol) another great song
@@Faks.09 "I am myself, like you somehow" are lyrics that hit me to the core. My parents divorced when I was 1. I saw him in visits (only about 2-3 times a year though) up until the age of around 13, when I decided not to see him anymore. We reconnected a few years back (I'm in my late 20's now), and after explaining the things he had missed in my life (a lot unfortunately quite bad). He uttered the words, "Jeez, you really are my son", and went on to explain near parallel occurances in his own life to match the things I was describing. Funnily enough it's my mother and sister I no longer speak to now. My father is visiting next week.

@@thomaslane8425 IT WAS EPIC FOR SURE THOMAS!!...ILL BE IN CHICAGO AGAIN FOR "OASIS" IN THE SOLDIER FIELD. AUGUST 28TH...NEXT YEAR😉
I remember Pearl Jam being good in 1992 but as the years roll by, it is becoming clear what a megaband they actually were. That Ten album is a masterpiece. This song, "Release Me" is my favorite.
I love when you can just feel a song in your soul
Best thing Pearl Jam ever did was record this song! Damn I love this song.
Release!!#
The pearl jam memorabilia classic tryst from the 'Ten,' LP. The young vedder's pipes just resonate live, eddie 's vocal range changes the fantastic four from four basic characters to evidently something much larger but then erick von doom became larger himself. Then along came one of my marvel favorites 'The silver surfer.'
If i close my eyes and get lost in this song I can feel my mom and sister in law that i lost to COVID in 2020…. So amazing… so thankful for this…
The way Eddie grabs that mic and sways back and forth is like he’s dancing with a beautiful woman. This mans stage presence is unlike any other singer ever!
I so agree with you!
I like how the crowd sways with him
I agree Eddie has a stage presence that is so captivating. Raw and real. Floor Jansen is the female I find most captivating... th-cam.com/video/1Xi4n8dJcF8/w-d-xo.html Oh how I wish they could do a duet together :)
I wish I was that mic stand ❤️
30+ years of helping me get my thoughts right.
Love my generation of music. The best of times.
The Band is THE SUM OF EVERYTHING POSSIBLE POSITIVE WHICH EXIST ONTHE WHOLE PLANET.THEY ARE NOBLEMAN'S ❤
28 year old Eddie Vedder, authentic, perfection lacking any pretense. Moving. Cathartic. Better times. All time favorite rock guy.
Can not think of any other singer who can sing like Eddie
I never had my dad in my life. I heard this song in the early 90s when I was a teen. It means a lot to me.
I lost mine a few years ago.. This song breaks both our hearts for different reasons!
Imagine being in the crowd for this. What the hell.
Literally one of the best songs ever! Lost my dad a few years ago, and even though I’ve been listening to this since it was released… it really hits different now.
This is one of the best versions of this song hands down. One of the best songs ever written 🙌 ❤️
All these years later and still as amazing as the first time I heard this
Ed is about the most intense Front Man ever.
Dave Caplener Sebastian Teysera (La Vela Puerca)
Yes indeed. Most powerful voice ive ever heard. So much raw emotion
Dave Caplener nah, he's the most intense better man ever
Dave Caplener After Chino Moreno from Deftones

Every time I strum this song with my guitar, I cry... tears run down my face,....a song that strikes the heart, my heart
No puedo escucharla completa porque me gana el llanto... Te extraño Papá❤
Perfection. That song still moves me, 17 years later.
27 years since that performance, time passes fast but that will stand forever, Amazing.
This is the best live version of this song I've ever heard. It was incredible!!! Breathtaking ❤️
I agree. Glad that I found this.
Brother. My condolences.
Not one singer in my 54 years past or present is better than him outstanding
I just introduced this song to my 80yr old friend. He said, “incredible! This vocalist perfectly emulates the tone of bagpipes!” I can’t unhear that and I love it.
It seems like gravity itself is pushing the sound out of him, he’s completely just allowing that to happen. I can’t stop listening and I never will.
i cant stop listening to this song..
Bud rodriguez I’m a huge fan, so many beautiful songs Release and Black OMG are played everyday all day, at work there stuck in my head. . Pearl Jam is a awesome Band, Eddie voice is so amazing and so powerful.
it’s literally the studio version, i don’t see a difference...
god, so amazing
this song is so intense and Eddie Vedders voice makes the whole thing absolutely perfect!!!
Still after thirty two years this piece stands out as an amazingly authentic work of heart wrenching emotional work of art.
Soooo much emotion look at his body language, how he holds the mic and how he's rocking back n forth ooohh my goodness!! This is why I love this man.
I could listen over and over
this is the most beautiful song, his voice his perfect here and we are lucky to have this recording.
he embraces the mic when he says "oh dear dad." that made me cry
Someone knew this shit was going to be marvelous and needed to record it. Glad they did.
*I* . . . thank the heavens for being exactly 'here & present'
for ALL the PNW grunge groups 'uprising' in WA & Van BC.
I am 'so' blessed to have been constantly within the 'sweat' zone
{front & center} & remember moments w/h immense clarity
of connecting w/h Eddy , Layne++. Still 'die' when hear Eddy
sing like he did in 90's so thank you for posting this.
Thankful for having had such tall b.friends to keep me safe
at the front & yanking me back though when 'too' . . . moshy.
Have seen a lot of Release performances live and on youtube and I can't recall Ed singing it any better - these vocals are unbelievable.
I'm so glad someone recorded it and shared it with the rest of us.
There’s one on now from 2016 and it’s freaking bone chilling.
Ohhhh, 1992.
This has me emotional, what a year.
Young and full hope and life.
Look where we are now, hope you all are happy and living a good life.
PEARL JAM IS THE BEST BAND EVER!!
Yes...
Hahaha
Tears down the cheek, chills down the spine
This is absolutely the best version of this song that I have ever heard!!!!! I was crying literally crying, what a beautiful piece of music! I wouldn't know what to do with Pearl jam wasn't in my life
Right with you
I totally agree 😊💓🤘✌️
Querido, Eddie!
Belas palavras. É o que sinto por ele também
This song gets me every time, that build. I haven't even lost my father yet, though this is the song I imagine playing during his eulogy.
And I'm so deeply sorry for those that have lost their father, I don't wish to cheapen that in any way.
i lost my father not because he passed away, just because of a divorce, what i feel about him was already sung in "my father's son" especially the third verses (even if he's still alive lol)
another great song
Back in 1992, the song to listen while smoking pot.
Eddie and Chris Cornell (Soudgarden/Temple of the Dog) were my favoriste voices at the time....
Amazing. One of the best vocal's (seriously) ever done. Soaring, vibrating, sad, deep. . . and brilliant.
Such a beautiful man in every way
