I actually like the scrapped ending better than the canon one. The canon one was a bit simplistic. The scrapped ending was mature, complex and gave us a great hate sink (Buldeo) and a lot of character development for Mowgli. If it would've been coupled with the deleted villain song, it could've made this movie near-perfect.
They know in The Original Book Mowgli's real name is Nathoo and his parents lost him by accident in the Jungle when he was just a baby (Also they believed that Shere Khan had killed him) also that his father was killed by Shere Khan while here he is still alive
not what I expected when I saw the title. I thought that the alternative ending would mean, for example, that Mowgli didn't go to the village, or that he would tell King Louis about the fire, or that Baloo would die at the end. and you reworked the whole plot of part 2, replacing Shanti and her family with characters from the book, and you also introduced a lesser-known villain than Sher Khan, Buldeo. it's still not canon but good

In what way is the one in the final movie stupid? The solution to Mowgli's identity crisis had been built up since the beginning. If anything, the rejected ending is inferior because Mowgli doesn't have to sacrifice anything. The final ending works so well because Mowgli sacrifices his comfort zone and embraces his ascension into manhood. The moral of the story is that just because change is scary doesn't mean we can or should avoid it.
@jjb1908 It doesn't come out of nowhere. The solution to Mowgli's identity crisis had been built up by his pursuit of an identity by imitating other animals throughout the film. He does the same with Shanti and finds his identity through connection. Add that to the fact that they had been trying to get Mowgli to the village since the beginning.
