Calvin is right. It was Lila's _grandmother_ Dorotea who was killed by Valya in episode 1. Raquella was the _grandmother_ of Dorotea, so Lila is Raquella's _great-great granddaughter._ When Dorotea said Lila's mother wasn't there (in Lila's "other memory"), it is implied that she's still alive and Tula lied about her dying in childbirth.
I think putting his hand to his head is because the effort of immolating others cause him pain the longer it goes. Every time we've seen him he's fine, but then he progressively looks to be putting more and more effort forth, and every time he's done it, I feel like it's to keep going.
According to Desmond, he was eaten by a worm, but made some form of deal with Shai Hulud, who then spat him out (spared him), and gave him some form (or forms) of power, which, apparently, is the power to burn people from the inside out, which is very interesting, since a worm has an internal power source, that reach temperatures similar to a furnace. (something that is stated in the books, but so far, has been omitted from the current Dune saga). So, would that possibly make Desmond Hart some sort of un-guided Proto-Kwisatz Haderach ?
No, I think he was really under the control for a second when people resist the voice it often looks like that in the book they start to perform the action but then gain control of them self again
This show has so much room to show the interesting parts of the Dube world that the movies did not cover. But i am afraid they are just gonna have more 5 minute sequences of banging.
I think he was compelled until the moment his life was in danger and the survival instinct (that comes from a guy who survived the big noodle) kicked in and he got control again.
You can see that Desmond Hart’s right eye is not the same as his left (and you can tell that the contact lens bothers Travis). He said, “Shai Hulud took my eye and granted me with a gift to see what even you cannot.”
The guy who’s playing the now main villain is doing a great job making himself unpredictable and his performance plays to why I can’t read him yet. It’s an interesting way to build up a villain only if you can make them do something like in his case, have that power to burn people on the inside.

Never watched Vikings didn’t really want to but even after two episodes Desmond hearts actor is making me want to give it a try he’s like a perfect combination of captain flint John sliver and Charles vain from black sails
I already knew I would go into this loving the shady stuff of the sisters. But I did not expect some other character to pop in and steal me as well. If I have a problem with Desmond, it's the telekinetic mind power stuff. To me, that kinda breaks the lore of nothing being magical or superpowers, but just manifestations of increasingly powerful minds. They might ground it later on, but it really doesn't bother me too much, since I already have to give a pass to genetic memory, including genetic memory created by the mother after the child was already born. I was just mostly excited to watch more of the Bene Gesserit. And then excitement ramped up when seeing someone who can challenge them.
With this episode, the series firmly sets itself as being based in Brian Herbert's take on the Dune universe. Brian treats Other Memory more like it's a network of information that characters plug into.. in Frank Herbert's Dune universe, Lila would not be seeing memories of her mother beyond her own birth, because it's actually passed down genetically. ...that means all bets are off, and Desmond might be a literal telekinetic sorcerer, because the prequel novels throw everything out the window and do whatever they want.
There is nothing worse than a Weak man in position of power. Mark Strong is doing a great job showing the weakness of the early days of the Imperium in the face of the other houses. It is why the Emperors to come created the Sardukar as their own Imperial force.
@@jonjohns8145 I don't completely understand the timeline here tho. I thought the sardu tribe was already around and was the reason that house corrino came into power?
@@Stormlep1 I am not super familiar with the overall timeline either, but my understanding is that the Sardukar were created AFTER house Corrino took power as a way for the Emperor to have his Own army (i.e. loyal to only him) so he would not have to rely on forces provided by the various houses (as we see here) whose loyalties might be in question. In Real Life, the Sardukar resemble the Early Mamelukes of Egypt (around 1200-ish) and the Janissaries of the Ottoman Empire. Both were groups of elite soldiers recruited as children and raised in Military discipline to ensure their loyalty was only to the King/Emperor in the face of rival competing noblemen of the empire.
@@jonjohns8145 the ecological destruction of Salusa Secundus played a significant role in the development of the Sardukar. It eventually turned into a prison planet and created similar circumstances as to why the Freman were formidable fighters. I just don't know when that happens. From context clues, even Giedi Prime isn't ecologically devastated at this point in the timeline.
@@chaost4544 Yeah, we are at the Very beginning of formation of the Empire as an institution as well as the other schools (though it is clear that the Navigator Guild is already established) so everyone seems to be on shakier ground than what we see in the main Dune story
In the Dune universe, there are in fact apes because all humans did come from Earth. It's just so f ar in the future that Earth is lost. Though with the canonization of the Butlerian novels in e1, it wasn't lost TOO long ago.
The prince is the Emperor's stepson, that's why he's not in the line of succession. He's the son of the Emperor's wife, and the princess is the daughter of both of them.
The dune universe is canonically the future of us. So people are ape descendants from a planet called earth although it was a long time ago. Like Tens of thousands of years ago.
It might just be me but I believe under the best conditions in the future once the human body goes through more evolution over the next thousand plus years. We might be able to do stuff like these witches regarding our bodies. Not including the voice thing but being able to manipulate our bodies functions for sure
Right off the bat, to answer their question, I would want to go back to fighting machines because the Beni Jeseret could've bred me or made me to be a sleeper agent.
I don't think Desmond can withstand the voice. A third party may have conditioned him against self-harm as a way to protect against the voice. There might be Tleilaxu and/or Ixian hijinks going on.
I think Desmond could be a clone called a gola and he's had some form of bene gesserit training and I think he's working with someone inside the sisterhood who killed Kasha
It might be too early in the timeline for Desmond to be a ghola but there's other genetic technology created by the Tleilaxu that could be the culprit. Desmond could be a face dancer. Ixians could also be involved.
Great reaction 👍 Regarding the agony, genetic memory stems back to your ancient human ancestors who first developed self-awareness. Rough estimate, maybe 100,000 years or so.
Doesnt worm juice give the ability to see forwards and backwards in time to a degree? Did duncan when swallowed see visions of paul or similar, then somehow survived and was reborn with powers.
