    Where would you recommend buying new bolts for the suspension? All mine are in pretty bad condition? Keep the videos coming, especially the van and exeo as I have both of these!

      Hi
      You can get new bolts from the dealer. Sometimes new parts come with new bolts which is great. Thanks for watching my content. Pretty rare to find someone with both vehicles😃 Glad you like the content. Thanks

    Just done this on mine as the top mount bearing was destroyed. I had a nasty squeek on the drivers side when turning the wheel. Only thing I did different was I used a bit of WD40 on the rubber mount where it pushes up under the strut tower. I did this because the old one was absolutely stuck in place and a git to get out. Now I still have a squeek occasionally. Only thing I can imagine is that the WD40 is allowing the top mount bush to rotate?

      Mine was stuck to the strut tower too. Used a long crowbar to remove it and wasnt too bad. I also put a bit of lubrication on the mount to make it easier to install. Not sure why you are getting that noise if you have replaced all and is all new.

    Hi. I have questions. When you remove bearing in 5:38 it was flat side up , but new bearing you install flat side down, what is correct?

      Well spotted. The bearing should be installed with the flat side up. Thanks for your message

    Did this on my van Trafic 2018. The bearing was broken and I thought that's where the clonking noise was coming. After replacing the same noise came again.

      Sometimes it is hard to work issues out. They are not very well designed. I only cover less than 5k a year and find myself replacing parts every 2 years for MOT hence I decided to restore everything. Let's see how long they will last now

      @@TheKeenMechanic. Me too I replaced everything on that side and still a clonking noise.

    • @TheKeenMechanic
      @TheKeenMechanic  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@c.m.4078 The noise could be coming from the plate on to of the shocks. The are located on top of the strut tower in the engine bay, part of the shocks mounting. If it passes MOT just drive it and don't worry about it. Mine makes funny noises sometimes and I have checked every single joint and nothing. As I said they are badly designed and will never be as good as VW and Mercedes. If I buy another van again it will be rear wheel drive and probably VW

    How big a gap should there for the strut mount on top? I've got a gap around 8mm after replacing.

    • @TheKeenMechanic
      @TheKeenMechanic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is that the gap between the top plate and the strut tower? Just so I know we are talking about the same thing?

    • @SP-ru3rs
      @SP-ru3rs 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheKeenMechanic thanks for replying. It's the plate on top of the strut that goes inside the engine bay. I've replaced both because one was knocking but the gaps on both are the same but looks to much but Ive never done them before so not sure if that's right.

      @@SP-ru3rs Yes. Same on my van too. My van passed MOT yesterday so no issues. Best of luck, thanks for watching and for your message

      @@colmmyers7541 I have been looking to find a nice E34 too. I know a guy who has one 525i m52 that was imported from Italy in mint condition and rust free but he will never sell it. It was purchased from a collector who ordered the car brand new and specced it with rare buffalo leather interior. I have a few videos coming soon on the E38 740i. Thanks for your support and for your nice comments
