I highly doubt someone can be so deluded by conspiracy theory and the rest, that they would say this. It’s moreso the case they are suffering from some sort of mental illness or under the influence. Tbh, I’m not sure how you didn’t get to this conclusion based on logic alone.
The fact that there are actually people in this comment section saying the cop didn’t handle the situation properly and he should have “de-escalated” the situation blows my mind. Telling a psycho in a Walmart that’s threatening people with a knife 25 times to drop it is more than sufficient. Easy to complain how he handled this when you’re watching it through a screen. Try being the cop.
I agree. I think he handled it perfectly. So many things could have gone wrong. There were other customers in sight. Let me see someone else try and handle this situation so smoothly without anyone getting hurt. Ugh. These Internet warriors 🤦♀️ I tell ya.
Exactly! Plus you'd be surprised at how quickly people can close the gap between you and them - she could have ran at him at any point. Being tasered was the kindest way to handle this woman tbh.
The officer gave her exactly 30 warnings. No-one can say that he wasn't being fair while still being extremely cautious. Just so sad. What is going on with people today??
Tazers can be unreliable. Hes smart for trying to get the knife out of her hands first. Hes very level headed dealing with a dangerous uncompliant. Forget about whether hes fair on not, this was a knife wielder he was dealing with.
The way he constantly warned her, and gave her several chances to drop it yet she didn’t is just astonishing. Cop did a fantastic job with handling the situation!
@@spamcan9208 he said drop it several times if you have a brain and think about your kid you will comply well i don't expect that thing think and the police saved that unborn child from that thing.
I remember speaking to my friends uncle who is an officer probably 7 years ago or so about body cams. He told us the problems he had with them were that the battery didn't last a full shift so you couldn't leave them on and that they took a few minutes to actually turn on and start recording, I'm not sure if that is still the case or not.
@@jcarver69 sure it’s a problem solved by a trigger on your belt equipment. If you forget the video will turn on automatically if you unclasp your sidearm or taser. Another thing is to have dispatch monitor it. If your on the scene with your camera off you get a warning and they remotely trigger it
@@hibarikyoya854 we have but there’s limits to battery energy density while remaining safe not to mention the physics of it. Imagine a cellphone battery that could power a car for a moment. Basically it’s like a full tank of gas condensed into a little 3x4 inch square. That thing would be a bomb. I don’t know if you’ve seen a Tesla go up in flames but batteries unlike gasoline can burn by themselves because of how they work the fuel air mixture that gas requires exists within the a battery. So it can combust and burn by itself. Now imagine that Tesla car battery fire attached to a little camera on your body.
This proves why body cams are needed. It doesn't only catch the corrupted cops, but it also protects good cops like this guy. Without this evidence, could you imagine how much more difficult his life could be after using the tazer?
@@HuheJass if I remember correctly the officer was holding the lady at gunpoint until backup arrived. If the other officer had their firearm out then that gives the officer with the body cam to switch to non-lethal. Now if the women tried to attack the officer when he had his taser out then the other officer would have to shoot the women with the knife. I'm only saying this off of what I remember so if I said anything wrong feel free to correct me.
@@itzyoboydex nope I think you’re right! He doesn’t switch until he knows the other officer has a gun on her, at which point he switches to taser, gives her one last warning, and drops her like the brick she was threatening people with before lol
@@HuheJass read the caption at 1:41. That's protocol of probably every PD, if the suspect has a lethal weapon, there has to be at least one officer that's also lethally armed
He waited because if the taser failed to connect and work, it could have made the situation worse. Thankfully, he had another officer come in to cover him with deadly force while he used less than lethal force.
You need to watch the video again. He initially had the gun drawn, he later changed to his Tazor (1min 45secs into the video). He couldn't change from Gun to Tazor any earlier until his colleague arrived to assist.
The officer gave her many chances to simply drop that knife. Then, after her willful decision to not comply, he dropped her. Perfectly done. Thanks Officers.
Great outcome but it definitely wasn't perfectly done. The two cops didn't coordinate at all, which led to both of them pulling non lethals out. At the end, nobody had an actual gun pointed at her just two tasers
I love how after falling to comply with the officer, being told to drop the knife, and being tasered, she STILL has the audacity to go "so your kidnapping me now?!?" What a total dingbat
@@tommygaga7117 the tazer deescalated the situation quite successfully. The police officer just shouldn't have to repeat the command to drop the knife more than once. By doing that, he displayed 103 seconds more patience than I would have.
He's wrong. Repeating the same command over and over again makes the person less obedient. He needs more training. Not shaming him, just saying. I get he's a nice person, but you must act before things escalate. Sometimes tazers fail, some people are so high on drugs and alcohol, or mentally ill that they can withstand even a bullet to their head.
I know this is serious but the way she dropped after being tased actually made me chuckle. Either way both cops handled it as they should have. Props to them
Honestly this cop is one of the good ones. He gave her around FIFTY WARNINGS before tasing her. If you don't comply you aren't giving the cops much of a choice. She had more chances to comply than most people get. Mad respect to this officer we need more like him. Edit: correction, 25 warnings exactly. I guess some people don't understand exaggeration.
Amazing how, even with clear audio/video, you manage to twist the truth and exaggerate. She did not get “FIFTY warnings”. You demonstrate exactly how misinformation is spread by laziness
You do know that the video game sound effect is supposed to sound like switching what weapon you're holding, right? The sound in real life came before the video game sound lol
The fact that the Officer bought himself time until his colleague arrived to get her attention so that he could’ve switched to a non-lethal weapon says everything about the training of that county’s police department. Well done.
@@19Frank12 well it’s smarter to use the more effective weapon to deter any more bad decisions from the perpetrator, and to also prevent harm to anyone else close by. Tasers are unreliable
@@UnkownUser2001 In a situation where nobody was harmed but you seem to have an armed person in an undefined irregular psychocologial state the police's task is not to kill them but to prevent or minimize harm done to anybody, including the armed woman. I do not see how preparing to shoot a firearm in a crowded area like Walmart would achieve that. Tazers might sometimes be unreliable but just like guns, which can clog, they are regularly examined by the police and you expect them to work. That argument makes no sense as you are basically saying I'd rather want to be sure to shoot the person than risk to fail in solving the confrontation with non-lethal force. Entering a confrontation with the highest escalation level will largely increase the risk of violence. Pointing a gun at somebody will make you their enemy while negotiating and still being able to incapacitate them will make cooperation more likely. Police is supposed to enforce public safety for everybody, not to eliminate confused and potentially dangerous individuals. There is enough footage of police in other countries defusing confrontations with gunmen or other armed persons without any violence, or non-lethal violence like batons, peppers pray or tazers. Almost all of these countries have lower crime rate, lower incarceration rate and lower casualties on both sides compared to the US. Seems to be working. And don't get me wrong. A (trained at least) attacker with a knife is extremely dangerous, especially at close range and I sure would want to ensure I'm getting out alive. But that's true no matter what I wield and claiming that immediately going for lethal force would be the right decision is irrational
The showed part of this video on Twitter. In that version, he says, drop the knife once , and then he tased her. People went crazy saying he had no right to do that, he only warned her once. I knew there had to be more. Thank you for telling the whole story.
I don't have the patience to be an officer, I would have akimbo'd up the taser with the pistol and tased after the 2nd warning. Well handled and well resolved, props to the officers.
“She’s just standing there…. *MENACINGLY* “ Also, good job for the other cop coming in for assistance so thing didn’t have to get bloody. Thanks law enforcement
She's standing there I realized she was just a Karen trying to make history. Who's to judge from her entitlement When she refused I know we both agreed. That Karens are entitled but in the end it has to end this way!
I like how she talked like “No” like she was the one making the rules, YOUR BEING HELD AT GUNPOINT WOMAN He’s not holding back because he cant shoot you its just that this cop has a patience of a saint.
That man had all the patience in the world, he did everything he was supposed to do and then some. I hope we can all agree this is the proper procedure. Good on him for being a good example
This cop tried to de-escalate as much as possible and kudos to him, cause I hate to say it as a former corrections officer you really cannot de-escalate sometimes.
I think that he did a really good job toward the end lowering his voice and calming the situation. Much better than most cops I’ve seen. I do think there was probably more that could be done. Still holding the non lethal saying things like “what’s going on? What’s the problem? Are you okay?” And stuff speaking to her, and I think shouldn’t have come in yelling esp once there were no civilians right around her, but I don’t blame the cop because we don’t even teach almost any deescalation tactics here like they do in other countries. Overall he did a pretty good job. I think making sure she wasn’t deaf or has a heart condition would be good before gazing but it doesn’t sound like she was deaf. But yeah this is prbly in the top 5% in terms of deescalation in the videos I’ve seen from America.
Pointing a gun at someone and shouting is hardly a de-escalation attempt. She was just standing there not being visibly aggressive. If this officer’s EQ was higher than 50, he would have asked her nicely and probably gotten what he asked for, before pointing his gun at her face.
@@brachson I think it was a tazer. At least it wasnt a gun. I have pretty low standards as an American lol. For an American cop, they are taught NOT to deescalate in training. it's not a bad job for an American cop. Many would just come out shooting or ask once then shoot. You're right it's not really too much of a deescalation tho. Should've calmly talked to her from further away with no weapon at first "what are you doing? How are you feeling? Are you okay? Could you drop the knife for me please?" Etc
I have to give that woman a "10" on her back dive. She never arched her back on the way down, had her toes pointed and hit a perfect landing. Knocking over the display added extra credit to the degree of difficulty.
To anyone who said the police officers could have handled the situation by trying to talk to her to determine her mental state, I say this.. she was told by both officers 27 times and yes I actually counted to drop the knife. Since these men and women put their life on the line in the course of doing their job and you are sitting in your lazy boy watching a video on TH-cam, why don’t you try to reason with a crazy who is holding a weapon and not listening to you. At the end of the day police officers ARE still human beings and want to go home to their families and loved ones.
It says right in the video he was waiting for another officer to arrive. As soon as she did you can hear the change in his voice when he gives one final warning.
This is a professional cop right here he warned her several times and smoothly and efficiently switched to the taser and made sure everyone was in a safe distance it made a proper arrest when back up arrived
@@ethanabecasis4579 Sure parts of the media makes it seem so, but vast majority of peoples issue isn't with police officers -- its with the justice system as a whole and lack of accountability when an officer is in the wrong. It's really that simple.
These body camera are not only there to provide the officer with accountability, but also to protect him in case of false accusations. It has also provides great great training tools to those at academies.
Believe or not the ACLU is complaining about body cams (their reason given which i don't believe is the only one) because it allows cops to get their story "straight" instead relying on their memory which guess defense lawyers could trip them up. Oh how i so love watching someone levy false accusations and get nailed due to a body cam
@Tourmaline Brown Not the same. When people film the police it's usually after a situation has escalated. A lot of times it looks like a cop shot someone out of nowhere, or they sent a dog after someone because he didn't do what the cop said the first two times. Even worse, some people edit those videos and release them just to get a reaction from people. With a body cam, the entire situation including what lead to the escalation is recorded. And the police will only release it with the full context. There have been times when even news agencies edit out parts of the video that shows a suspect holding a knife. Sean reed livestreamed himself running from police on facebook, leading to him getting shot after dropping his phone/camera while running away. People were outraged that police shot an unarmed back man that was running away. The media fanned the flames for weeks until police investigation uncovered that he drive by shot into peoples houses for fun, that for 3 frames in his video you can see his gun in his waistband, and that in the cops body cam he literally died shooting at police. I'm not saying that recording police is bad, but it is nowhere near as good or unbiased as police bodycams. There are countless times I've seen people recording police, screaming at them that the man they're holding at gunpoint and trying to arrest did nothing wrong. When in actuality they're doing a felony traffic stop, where they know the guy is dangerous and likely armed. Because they know who they're arresting and are looking for him specifically, or they just ran his plates. Or the guy had just finished running away from a previous crime and the police caught up to him. Don't even get me started about 3 recording bystanders screaming "HE ISN'T RESISTING," when 3 cops combined effort can't even get the guys hands behind his back. It just plays on your feelings to make a situation look way worse than it is.
When a policeman acts the way he should, it's very admirable. the patience, work and coordination to reduce the person without doing more damage than necessary is applaudable.
I love that people are still shopping and walking around as if a Cop isnt screaming with a taser raised and a Lady has a Knife . Yep just another day at Wal-Mart
It’s called drugs. Something you should NEVER do. Our society really glorifies this stuff though so it’s not really something to consider unusual anymore unfortunately
He asked her 25 times (yes, I counted) before he tazed her to drop or put down the knife. Then once after he tazed her for good measure. I'd say she was sufficiently warned.
This is exactly how every officer needs to act, I bet there are people saying she didn't do anything but that is wrong she had a weapon in hand and wasn't listening to orders it's her own fault for walking around Walmart with a knife in hand
Well that's not really against the law. So what exactly is she doing? Of course we don't know what happened before that. But if all she's doing is caring a knife, Walmart sells those. So it's obviously not illegal.
@@keithwatson8228 if she was just holding the knife because, as you are saying, she is in a store that sells them, she would have put the knife down as she was told or she would have tried explain why she was holding it. She is holding a weapon. She is a moving danger and if the officer had the same thinking as you, she could have easily hurt herself or others. So no, it's not legal to run around the store with a knife in a store and the officer warned her several times. He had the right to do it, to keep save all the other people in the store. She doesn't look like a sane person who " just holds a knife because she can do it "
I do believe the video indicates she removed the knife from the packaging so yes that's not permitted. Walmart does sell knives but they all have covers/packaging to prevent injury. Too much risk of injury/lawsuits to sell them open.
I couldn’t really hear her that well, but I bet she didn’t listen because she knew the consequences for her would have been pretty bad. The only way to delay it would be to just stand there and ignore the commands to avoid the punishment for a second longer.
This officer did an absolutely fantastic job for the situation he was presented with. Holding her at gunpoint until backup arrived and his clear headed thinking in recognizing the opportunity to switch to a non lethal option is perfect. Well done.
Isn't that something, she was a threat to everyone in that store , having a Butcher knife and yet the officer restrained himself from shooting her, Mmmm🤔

If they wait for her to come to her senses (deescalate) then she could decide at some point to throw the knife, or who knows what (maybe run), and hurt someone (possibly a bystander). There's really no clean solution when people decide to create problems and martyrdom.
Reading the comments here reminds me of how incredibly ignorant some people are. This officer did a fantastic job. Tactically, the taser fails, or you miss with the taser, and the knife wielder can charge you while you try to transition to another option. That's why he kept a gun on her until his backup came. Once he had backup, he had options and was able to transition to the taser. Had she charged him at any point prior to his backup arriving, he would have been justified in shooting her. You are right, he did a good job, most cops would. You are also right that there are some cops who should have gone into another profession.

You are 100% right. This was the proper way of dealing with this angry Karen yelling about high prices, or whatever it was that day that set her off. I'd handle my job like I was playing GTA V.
Something to keep in mind which the officer didn’t have much control over was his line of fire. Had the girl advanced on him before his partner showed and he opened fire on the suspect, there are multiple bystanders in the distance behind the suspect. In his line of fire
@@chuckem which is even more reason why holding her at gun point until back up arrived (which is probably department standard procedure) makes no sense in this situation. The other cop had flats. Maybe we need to give cops a more lax environment so they can think better. Don't take my idea politicians. And if you do... patent pending.
I think after the 12th time I'd mix it up a bit. Maybe "Drop the knife and we can talk." "What's going on?", "Why do you have a knife". "There is no good ending here while that knife is in your hand.", "We can't help you while you're holding that knife.", "If there is a problem, let us help you. Have u seen the video of the officer trying to talk to a woman who crashed her car snd then was down on a beach? The officer told her to go back up the stairs and he went to follow her up, out of nowhere she turns and pulls a knife and slashed his neck, nicking his carotid artery. He is a true champion, he managed to immediately apply pressure, call for backup and help and chase her, I don’t remember if he stayed on her or if the other officers got her but he survived and the dr was shocked. We all think guns are the most deadly but a knife can kill you just the same. Knowing how close he came to death, the video is really intense
Few years ago police in Tallinn, Estonia shot the man who attacked them with a knife. It was first shooting in Estonia where police officers actually killed the offender.
He wasn't actually patient but something like that, he just was waiting for his buddy, and waiting for a moment where he could safely for him and nearby citizens switch from pistol to the tazer.
If I was holding the taser, I would have told her max 3 times. The fact the policeman was holding a GUN, changes the equation. He did an awesome job to change from gun to taser. If he had shot her, he may have been in trouble.

Until they turn them off when it suits them.

More cops like these please. Didn’t escalate the situation, switched to non-lethal when given the opportunity, gave many, many warnings and brought the situation to an end safely. ...and in a satisfying manner.
Yeah I agree but I would also like more cops that let me dip after speeding
Tactically, the taser fails, or you miss with the taser, and the knife wielder can charge you while you try to transition to another option. That's why he kept a gun on her until his backup came. Once he had backup, he had options and was able to transition to the taser.
Had she charged him at any point prior to his backup arriving, he would have been justified in shooting her.
You are right, he did a good job, most cops would. You are also right that there are some cops who should have gone into another profession.
tazers dont work as good on baggy clothing. sometimes not at all. so its easier said than done sometimes.
You just not understand that not all situations are like this? Of course, most should switch to non-lethal weapons but only when the officer has time to switch, thinks a lethal weapon would do the job, the criminal doesn’t have a gun, and everyone else around is safe.
@@johnjones_1501 finally someone who understands basic policing, also when people ask why police have so many guns pointed at one man with a knife, it's because no matter what they want superior firepower over the suspect

I counted too. You’re precise, plus one more command as he was tasing her. She still had to be told to “drop the knife” after the initial tase.
Not patience. He was waiting for backup because he didn't want to be alone in the arrest. As soon as his colleague showed up he tased her.
@@kimulvik4184 , that still took patience nevertheless. Waiting is to be patient. He could have handled that differently and it would have been considered just as efficient.

I personally think he should have pulled the taser out first since it's pretty irresponsible to aim a gun at something you don't fully intend to shoot, other than that he handled the situation perfectly
@@colbstinator no back up and tasers don’t always work. If he fires the taser while she rushes at him and one of the pins miss, now he has to pull out his firearm while she is already swiping a knife at him.

@@colbstinator it's a fair point, but i think the officer needed the weapon out incase the psychotic lady ran at him with that knife.

@@XxThePh4ntomxX I thought about that, and that's fair, but even with a taser out he still would have had the upper hand. If she ran at him, tase her, she's down.
