Thank you for not "remastering" the authenticity out of this, which sounds like it did three-quarters of a century ago.

"from the spacious Cafe Rouge of the Hotel Pennsylvania" - THE Ground Zero of the entire Swing Era. Said another way, the primo venue of all venues / extended booking on location gig in NYC every band wanted because of all the valuable airtime the bands got on radio if they were lucky enough to get booked in there. The hotel knew it too and could pay low bucks, but bandleaders would do it and even lose money but knew they would break box office records everywhere they'd go out on the road when the Cafe gig would end...

Glenn never lost money. The Cafe Rouge was no exception. On the musical end, the band was SO tight. Playing every night, they just couldn't miss.

Glenn Miller the Giant and he Genius above all, but the level of the Big Bands in 1940 was absolutely fabulous. Elmano de Freitas Morna.

You too, sir, are a giant and a genius. Hope you are well. My mother was born in '29 and my daddy in '27. A most wonderful time to be young. I think I was born too late...lol God's blessings to you and yours. Very honored to see your post.

The closing theme is 'Slumber Song' as Alan Robinson says.

When not laying waste to Germans, my pop ran sound with 2 other guys for glenn Millers army airforce band. Ran mlcs ,set up temporary back walls for outdoor concerts. Glenn was hard to get to know, not mean just reserved. He said ray McKinley was a riot so was trigger and peanuts.the piles of snapshots, ld never part with.

I think the versions of "Our Love Affair" and "A Million Dreams Ago" on this broadcast are really superior to the recorded versions, even though they're shortened versions. The band and Ray's voice sound fuller.
