I’m 67 years old and grew up in a neighborhood filled with WWII veterans who were my friends’ fathers. When there was a block party (in the early to mid 1960’s) all the Moms and Dads would bring out their big band music vinyl, and would blare it and dance to it all night long! None of us kids could believe OUR PARENTS could jitter-bug that much AT THEIR AGE!! (They were actually only in their late 30’s and early 40’s but to us, they were old Mom and Dad…..until we saw the jitterbug queens and kings!!). ❤❤❤
I still tear up whenever I think back on those memories. 😢

My family reunions at my grandmother's house three or four times a year weren't complete until my dad sat at the piano, Uncle George tuned up his sax and clarinet, Uncle Bernard pulled his guitar (my guitar now :) out of its case and I plugged in my bass. Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, the Dorsey brothers, Frank, Dean, Mel and the rest of the 'Great American Songbook' were the standards we played all night and into the next morning. I didn't realize back then the musical education I received. I also didn't realize what great times they were. They still make me smile when I reminisce.

I tell those who hear that playing a musical instrument between the 50’s + 70’s was not uncommon at all. Public schools all taught music. It was a standard sacrificed for those too angry from seeing Civil Rights being protected. That’s the beginning of the push back by the totally wrong “Right”. Some see it. Some don’t but smirk off to the side. Peace

I'm only 73, but "My Momma" turns 100 this month and she and Dad danced to this music lovingly for decades... I intend to play it at her Birthday celebration. Hopefully, some younger folks will appreciate what goodness we've given up in the search for equity...

I'm 46 & I love it. It started with me watching The Golden Girls, when I was a child.
They Played " In The Mood" on an episode.
Also Bea Arthur sang "what'll I Do " & that started my love for Irving Berlin.
I started going to the library & checking out old albums 😊

My Mom and Dad danced to "Moonlight Serenade" at their fiftieth wedding anniversary celebration in 1990. A few years later, when I moved in to care for my Mom after Dad passed away, she and I danced to Glenn Miller every Saturday in the living room. When she was in a nursing home with dementia, which held her for at least fifteen years, we danced again to the tunes as we hummed, until she could no longer walk, or dance, or sing. What warm and wonderful memories Glenn Miller's music evokes! It will always lump my throat!

Wonderful musicians playing the old and great standards we love. I'm an old guy too 79 yrs. Sooo...born in early 1944 l am lucky to have see and heard many phases of music thru the years to today. There is not one that doesn't electrify the moment when you re-hear it . Like now for example. Very emotional.

My first recollection of Glenn Miller and his Orchestra was a rainy evening. I was five, sitting in front bench seat of our car, between mom and dad. Dad had the radio tuned in to a station nearby as we drove into Los Angeles. I thought that the music was beautiful. It happened to be Moonlight Serenade. Back in those days patriotism was pretty high. It was the fifties and the future was bright and hopeful. This is how I first experienced the magic of Glenn Miller and his Orchestra. Somehow that music was a part of a larger picture in those days, summing up our love of life...

Miller apparently was top in the charts. Getting a feel of my Dads life at 20 years of age or so stuck in that lonely place. Was a completely different world then from today, just 80 years later. Sometimes I think that is strange, because he lived in USSR, but he not just listened jazz, but also palyed this music. In the piano, drums and guitar. Already I am adult and now, also love to listen Glenn Miller or Benny Goodman. Unfortunately I can't play these melodies on the piano or other music musical instrument for my grandphather, but I turn on this or another videowith a good music, and he could remember his young years. More than one year, I lost him. And now, when I listen this music, remember my dear grandphather. Sometimes it's very difficult and even now, I'm writing this comment and cry.

I'm 73 this year and my parents brought me up on Glen Miller, The Dorsey's, Benny Goodwin, Nat King Cole, all of them and I still love it. I branched our here and there, but I can still dance to this. I miss the good old days when gas was $.37, a candy bar was $.25, and the movies were $.50, pop corn a $.10. I miss Drive-ins, that was fun. I sure hope you're well and looking forward to the Holidays.

I can close my eyes and still remember watching my old Mum n Dad waltzing to these songs.
Also, every Christmas time, (When I was younger) I remember sitting of an afternoon, with my Mum & watching The Glen Miller Story on TV, such a good film, with great music....
    Such Good, Happy Memories 😁❤️

I grew up with this music - my folks played it on their Victrola and danced in the living room. Now my husband has collected all the Glenn Miller recordings on 78's and plays them for me.

People today have no idea of his mass popularity in the 40s. For example, at that time, jukebox plays were measured and many jukes were loaded with only Miller music!!

I worked many wedding receptions at a Country Club in the 80's when I was in my twenties. Always live bands playing. Moonlight Serenade was a staple which I grew to love. Invariably the older guests would get up and dance. I'm now the age they were. Boy I wish we had that generation here still, I think they'd give America of today a swift kick in the ass.

I fell in love with Glenn Miller as a kid. I watched a movie where Jimmy Stewart played Glenn Miller. I was hooked on big band music. Many years later my grandmother and I were sitting around. I pulled out my CD collection. She told me " don't play any of your wild music." I popped in my Glenn Miller. Boy was she shocked. We sat around and listened to Glenn and the band. Was a wonderful memory. Brought back many memories for her too.

Brings back memories of my dad who loved Glen Miller and had the entire record collection! He would sing the songs to us too! My parents were born in 1927 and 1928 and I was born in 1963. This is almost a lost genre, but hopefully a new generation will fall in love with the big band sound. :)

My Dad too, we were 4 daughters and he would grab one of us now and again for a quick jig hahahahaha, such very fond memories, he listened to Glenn Miller every day, I know every note! He would also sing along or whistle right through. 15 years he's gone and not a day goes by that I don't think of and miss him. He was a loving, humble really good man. :)

I am 66 and my parents danced to this sound . I still love it because of the rhythm. The parents of this generation were among the group who said that rock and roll was Satanic. They loved you and cared but sometimes forgot what their parents thought of their sound. Music makes the world a great place. I thank God for the veterans in this era for protecting the world.

Glenn Miller was an extraordinarily gifted musical genius. His legacy and his music will live forever. When I was a teenager, my folks listened to all the big bands of the 1940s. Now, 50 years later, my appreciation for this kind of music is just as great as theirs's was then. I love it!
