Abstract
How might the events of The Day After Tomorrow be portrayed through the EAS?
Analysis
The scenario takes place in the same setting and time period as the film. As the movie was released in 2004, weather alerts were modeled after products of that time period. The film also predates recent changes to national EAS messages as noted in the EAS handbook. The extreme weather events seen in the movie allowed for some unique event codes to be used (i.e. Flash Freeze Waring). The scale of the disaster was also conducive for a national EAS message to be utilized. This scenario script was developed entirely in 2023.
Production
The visuals were created on Microsoft PowerPoint with some custom fonts and were recorded on OBS. The EAS headers and other audio were obtained/created from EASyKit: a resource for EAS scenarios. The TTS voices were sourced from an online demo. All audio elements were mixed on Audacity, and the final scenario was edited and rendered using iMovie. Total production time was roughly a month, coinciding with several other projects.
Other
My first movie-based EAS scenario. Having seen the film at one point, although scientifically debunked, the disaster seemed quite ideal for an EAS scenario. While excessive in some aspects, many of the weather phenomena depicted can be translated into EAS alerts. This scenario is on the shorter side, and there are many other parts of the country to explore in relation to the movie's plot. Regardless, I'm happy with how this perspective connects with the events of the film.

It is about time somebody made a complete EAS scenario regarding The Day After Tomorrow. One I watched only covered the tornado outbreak that ravaged Los Angeles.

County listings for affected counties by an alert are given in alphabetical order, and I think states are also listed in alphabetical order. Here, the correct listing of affected counties would be as follows for New York:
Bergen, Bronx, Essex, Fairfield, Hudson, Kings, Nassau, New York, Orange, Passaic, Putnam, Queens, Richmond, Rockland, Suffolk, Union, and Westchester.

I was a big fan of your content back in the day, and it was part of the reason why I got into the community, alongside the other big scenario builders. (Though thanks to IRL circumstances, my own scenario's been stuck in limbo for a while.)
While your EAS content will definitely be missed, I'm glad you chose the option you did, and *didn't* just delete everything entirely, as others have done previously.
Best of luck with your new content. I remember watching a previous video maker (although I can't remember their username, it was many years ago...) that centered their content around fire alarm stuff - I might very well stick around for it as well.

I remember watching this movie as a kid! This and Twister (1996) were my favorite movies growing up, which probably helped my love for weather. Also, 2024 has so been the year of Mother Nature telling us to stop our wasteful ways... I am sorry for the losses in the 7.6M earthquake New Year's Day in Japan and the tornadoes and fires on January 9th, 2024.
