ABSTRACT
This remains the most viewed video on my channel, even 5 years later. It was around this time when I was able to make and publish EAS scenarios without having time constraints. Of course, I no longer have time. This scenario was originally a little over 40 minutes, although due to copyright issues, a small section of the finale had to be cut. This doesn't affect the entire scenario.
DISCLAIMERS
Don't steal the content in this video, I know most are rational enough not to, but there are bound to be people who do.
This is a work of fiction, any relations to real life events are purely coincidental.
I don't advise you wear headphones when watching this, EAS tones and many other elements of this scenario aren't particularly comfortable at a loud volume. If you must wear headphones (or some other audio device), start low then adjust. It can get annoying with all the noise complaints I get from viewers, so please take the time to ensure your ears are comfortable.
VALID TONES
I get this question a lot, these EAS tones you hear in the scenario are the same type you hear on radio and TV. That means, if you were to play this on air, EAS equipment will activate for it. I, dewpoint8900, will not assume responsibility for any activations as a result of this video.
RESEARCH
This scenario was aiming for some realism, mainly in the EAS alerts. At this point in time, I was well aware of the primary EAS stations for the NYC area. These stations make the main stage for nearly the entire scenario. Looking at this scenario now, there are some inaccuracies, most notably the ID of radio stations, since I know what they are now. I also wouldn't use the visuals for the alerts as none of the stations in this scenario use EASyPLUS encoders. In fact, all of the radio stations seen in this scenario (except KWO35) all use SAGE Digital ENDECs, which has a unique sound to their EAS headers, and definitely do not use the screen seen in this scenario. Given their observed behavior, I also find it unlikely that these radio stations would relay any alerts outside of tests. Of course, in such emergencies, it's more likely these radio stations would just provide information in a typical breaking news format, and an EAS alert for the events in this scenario wouldn't be necessary. New York is also quite primitive in its EAS matters (compared to states like Washington or any state using IPAWS), so how actual emergencies would be sent through the EAS remains uncertain.
As for the plot, this is loosely based off of the events of the video game The Last of Us. In particular, this scenario focuses on the game's intro, where Austin, TX is quickly overrun by infected individuals in the early days of the in-game cordyceps (CBI) outbreak. I'll avoid spoiling the game's plot, but the intro level does show a lot of instances of public discourse and panic. Amid confusion and to avoid further panic, wouldn't be surprised if news outlets pass it off as a riot. I know this seems to be a awkward decision, given current events (2021), but mind this was made back in 2016 before the craziness of today.

This was edited and published from my mid-2010 MacBookPro, if there's any jitter in the visuals, it's probably because the laptop is quite old and slow, including back in 2016.

After watching this, I am afraid to go into dark areas alone. I am afraid to interact with unidentified people outside of my home. I cannot look outside of my home at night. Quiet places sound like a zombie house. I do not want to go downstairs to get my sister because it is dark and quiet.

I think what makes EAS scenarios so terrifying is the unknown factor. You can't see this stuff, you can't turn to the news. All you have are the monotone words of a VOX to give you instructions. Absolutely terrifying.

I think that if cordyceps could infect people, the biggest danger would be law enforcement, the military, and people with guns. It's unlikely that a cordycep infection would make you hostile, but due to the risk of infection utter mayhem would ensue due to people's paranoia.

what functions do the infected retain? and are they dead like typical zombies or just infected? the word "zombie" is hard to pinpoint and the symptoms would have to be explained. for example, a realistic version of a zombie virus/bacteria/fungus would be most likely like rabies (hypothetically) but it wouldn't kill you. if we're talking about it being infectious from bites then body fluids would be affected like with rabies, and they would probably be easier to take down, but faster. hypothetically haha

babey old comment but still want to answer. It’s hard to say what humans infected with cordyceps would be like. Humans would be smart enough to tell if another person is being affected by a fungal infection that shows the traits as well as cordyceps does. Infected ants essentially lose free will, as the fungus takes control. It usually moves the infected ant to a tree/bush above the colony and remain there until it dies. After it is dead, the fungus bursts out of the body of the ant and lets more spores rain down onto the colony to infect more. It’s hard to say what would happen if cordyceps jumped the species barrier.

Imagining this scenario, just hearing this transmission, and then suddenly, as it cuts out, the ground starts shaking, everything nearby collapsing, bombs going off to the point of going deaf... Gotta be honest, as horrifying as that situation is, it'd be even worse to bear witness to the situation, be caught in it, and somehow surviving it.
This is absolutely incredible work. Few things put me this much on edge, and this nails it.

Here is the exact text I used for the TOS.
The United States Government in Oklahoma has issued a major Toilet accident at a taco bell for, Oklahoma County in Central Oklahoma. until 5:45PM. A while ago in Choctaw, there was this 26 year old at a Taco Bell who was in a bathroom and caused a flash flood in the area. Expected hazards include: a lot of yucky ness, and some one who clearly ate too much. Please stay away from the Taco Bell in Choctaw, as it is flooded with diarrhea. We really don't want to clean it up but it is our job. Some little kids out there might say only in ohio. And I don't know why. Just please stay away from there.

@@Kastrenzo74yeah martial law is declared by some government and is always enforced and enforced by the military, law enforcement just helps impose martial law along with the military, it would be better to say that the state governor declared martial law and the military (the national guard) will apply and impose it and in fact why was the national guard only mentioned when they would bomb the cities overrun by the infected? with the situation in the states of New York and New Jersey getting out of control of local and state law enforcement and the fact that the governors of these two states have declared a state of emergency, it was time for the national guard to act and provide assistance to law enforcement to maintain order

Questions:
1. Is the Emergency Action Notification supposed to be a warning for bombings? Didn't hear the reason for the alert, just the standard message every EAN plays and alarms.
2. Did the nuke hit after the last live broadcast was cut off at 37:15 or was that just an intentional blackout of the media? Edit: sounded like the nuke hit at the very end. Still confused on why the broadcast was cut off, was it for the emergency alert at the end?
3. Was that morse code after the live broadcast was cut off?
4. Who the hell broadcasted the last alert? And is it meant to keep playing indefinitely for survivors? Good job on that btw, made it feel more realistic.

1. Yes, this is an alert for the bombing of NYC.
2. I believe it was intentional.
3. This is no morse code, these are EAS tones with cuts in between them.
4. Either the US Government or the New York Emergency Management
This is very late, but the last alert actually decodes for an Administrative Message, as I tried self-activating my weather radio not too long ago to see if it would actually decode properly on a SAME receiver given the cuts in the EAS header tones.
Not sure if what the location codes are for that alert as it only activates when my radios are set to ANY location. Even tried inputting the 5 NYC boroughs and some CT counties and no alert...
The Emergency Action Notification is the worst alert you can receive. Mainly due to national/global threats, you had better hope with your life you don’t get one, there have only been 2-3 real EANs and they where false/accidentally/illegal activation
@@SPCWakefield1103 I was living in Hawaii in 2018. I still remember exactly what I did that day a (false) alert was sent out saying a ballistic missile was coming for us. I remember who I called and telling them I loved them. The shear terror of it all.... I filled up the bathtubs by with water. My mom would get anxious every time she heard the emergency alert sound after that day.

I remember watching this last year, back when I was still in highschool. Today is the highschool prom and for some reason I ended up here. I was playing this in my car on my way to school last year sometime in February or around that time or maybe around thanksgiving and was listening to it throughout the day but really listened to it when I got back home. I live in Bayonne which has the Bayonne bridge that goes into Staten Island so it was really fun/scary listening to this, thanks. I'll keep coming back for the scares.
Watching this about to end my high school freshman year in COVID. Fucking weird

I have watched this scenario multiple times, just because it is so well made! It’s extremely realistic to me, and It genuinely scares me every time i watch it even though I’ve seen it before. Fantastic job!
This is still one of my favorite EAS videos out there. I genuinely have nostalgia for it, back when I first found this community and watched a ton of videos over that summer. I really wish this guy did scenarios again.

No one will ever make a zombie scenario like this masterpiece, and EF & Harvesters video. This was terrifyingly realistic and amazing. Especially love the voice filter and NOAA radio edit. Nicely done

It’s also crazy how this video was made SIX YEARS AGO. That was years before the whole internet-wide Analog Horror craze that we see today.

The scary part is, Cordyceps is deadly enough to infect insects like ants turning them into zombies and thats pretty horrifying, Realizing that if it was to happen to humans seems pretty realistic enough so listening to the scenario was bone chilling but I'm not gonna lie listening to it in a dark room at 1 In the morning sure scared the lights out of me.

its probly not that hard to get the sound files as they are pre-recorded but playing these tones improperly in a public place will get you in a lot of trouble.
