I have had a 2005 S40 for 14 years, and it has been the best car I've ever owned. It's a manual, and as such, I will continue to drive it for as long as I can. It's quick but comfortable, not very sporty but fun enough, and it never lets me down. Brilliant car.

Accurate. I bought my car brand new in '05 and have had all these issues including the headliner. I will say that they didn't really start until after 10+yrs though and I'm OK with that. It's wear and tear for me. I love my car!

Great simple and very informative video. Thank you. I hear clunking noise coming from under driver's side front like it is hitting at the acceleration pedal, but just once after I move off on low gear 1st, 2nd after 10-15 seconds. I've changed brake pads but didn't lubricate the sliding pins as was rushing so will recheck. Could be also the mounts. Also my rear drivers's side caliper is stuck as disc is rusted so probably will end up with changing it but first will check the sliding pins.

I have a 2009 V50 that I bought recently, but basically the same as the S40. I had to replace the rear brake calipers when one didn't want to go in well when I replaced the brakes and was sticking when I put it back together. Also had a vibration in the front that turned out to be at least three things. The previous owner took it to a shop that didn't know what they were doing and I've been having to fix several things they fixed recently according to the carfax. They didn't grease the front brake caliper pins and I suspect that caused the brake rotor to warp. The tires were cupped. And even after those two were fixed, there was still a front end vibration. Ended up being both axles failing. Driver's side started making a lot of noise so I replaced it. But it was still vibrating because the passenger side was bad as well. Headliner is still up, but seems like the foam under may be failing as it's a bit softer than I'd expect it to be.

theres no coolant low indicator except on xc90. the adapter for the pump up tester is usually wrong too so you end up holding the stupid thing on . the cheap chicom replacement tanks leak too. most of the leaks are on the upper hose that you cant see. they happen when the car is at running temp and if theyre on the ends of the coolant crossover like mine, they drip on to the header and vanish so you cant find them except for the puddle. ALWAYS CHECK YOUR COOLANT LEVEL WHEN YOU GET GAS or run your heat and if the heat doesnt work carry extra coolant (away from animals) and top it off. most leaks happen when it ten degrees out too.

There is a multi complicated coolant hose on this series of vehicles that is prone to cracking, leaking coolant that will overheat your engine if you don’t keep a close eye on your coolant level. This can cause the timing belt to jump time and destroy your engine. The hose is located on the driver’s side underneath the intake and tbody area making it extremely difficult or impossible to see from the top. This hose should be replaced on vehicles with over 100k miles in my opinion. It is a cheap repair compared to buying an engine or a different vehicle.

I have a volvo s40 2.4i -04 and when i accelerate in low gear at low rpm i can feel a small vibration. Also when i shift gear i can sometimes hear a noise that sounds like something is loose... can it be a bad motor mounts? I can let a mechanic take a look at that but... my car has just been att the workshop and it cost me 800€... also last year the clutch was replaced also alot of other things. This car is so expensive 😆

It’s your mounts. Check out FCP euro for an OEM kit (engine and transmission) for $315 USD

Is it safe to assume the s60 will have similar issues?

I have a constant vibration under the accelerator when driving on highway, over +80 km/h. that is an engine mount or cv / axel issue?

+Alaa Sedki We wouldn't be able to diagnose an issue like that here, you may want to have a local mechanic take a look at it. Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c

My 2014 Ford Fusion had this problem now that I see this and know that Ford and Volvo used to be partnered.... I guess Ford kept all the crap because the 2014 Fusion was new when I got it in 2013 and 3 years later the flue rail went to scat....Ford and Volvo.... just don't buy them unless you want to keep fixing one item just for another issue to rise after it.... LOL

I have a problem with my volvo s40 2007 110D 1.6L psa. At 3000t/min especially in third speed. The motor can't go above 3000t or the motor shutdown.. I have to restart it when I am driving ( a bit dangerous). No message, or Light on dashboard.. I changed: egr, gasoil filter, fullfill eolys, etc.. I need help if someone met that problem 😢

Plugged sunroof drains!! Arghhhh!! Just replaced the fuel rail pressure sensor at 89K miles after daughter complained of high fuel consumption. Need a new windshield?? Pony up the big bucks because it's part of the safety system. Otherwise, it's been a good car. Pretty small for anyone over about 5' 10".

And most likely the EGR valve. Haven't seen a 10+ year old car without significant EGR cloggage.
