I bought one of these a while back for a trip to Kielder Forrest but unfortunately only got to use it once but one of the best night sleeps I've ever had!! Not bad for someone over 6ft and 20+stone ;-) Used my Army Arctic sleeping bag plus the DD Under blanket...Lovely and warm. Also had a bed roll under for extra comfort. Great video btw!!
That was a very valuable comment D- Mac. I’m 6 feet exactly and have been wondering if it would be comfortable for me. I have still to come across a review of a DD hammock where the reviewer shares their height at all 😅 Perhaps it was mentioned in this video and I just missed it?
I have a few other hammocks and honestly did not truly enjoy them as much as I wanted because of issues with the bugnet setup seeming restrictive as well as complicated to set up . Also like you I am not too keen on purchasing and using an under quilt , simply because after factoring in all the gear for winter, I might as well go with a tent. I like the double construction where I can use it for my sleeping pad or other insulation. For many of the areas I go out to, they are swampland and being off of the floor requires Hammock use. After watching this I have decided to purchase this. I am always impressed with kit from the UK! Thanks for the videos.
Happy New Year early! I sincerely hope you continue to produce the excellent quality of videos which you have become known for in the coming year. Your video content, attention to detail and the way in which you present the material is first rate and well worth the time spent watching them. Keep going strong and once again, have a happy New Year!
Aw thank you S B, that’s really kind of you mate, and of great encouragement, I try my best. Sincere appreciation. All the best to you and yours SB. Take care
I just had this delivered last week. Haven’t tried it yet, in fact I haven’t hammock camped at all so looking forward to it. Thanks for the demonstration.
Interesting video. I have never used an Hammock before and always wondered how flat you could be when inside. I can see now that with this model you can, which is a big plus for comfort. Thanks for sharing.
Superb Shane. If I decide to change my standard DD Frontline then the XL would be a contender. Little tips like bungee or paracord on the zips to assist zipping and unzipping when inside the hammock are a big help. Always interesting to also hear other hammock users talk about their experiences and preferences with regard to insulation and staying warm. Thank you for the review. Paul :)
Would there be a problem if you just attached the carabiner from the hammock to the treehuggers? I only have treehuggers and i don‘t wanna buy a new suspension system. Thank you :)
@@IsleofWightBushcraft alright thank you that‘s what I thought. Thank you for the video it really helped a lot. I‘ve now ordered the hammock and I‘m looking forward to it :)
Great review. I have the normal Frontline hammock which I find a bit small although I am only 6ft. Can I ask how tall you are as this hammock might be better for me. Alan
Only 6ft, that’s pretty tall, I’m 5:11, it’s very roomy, I have several dd hammocks, but this is my go to hammock from now on, it’s much better, I don’t feel so restricted. Thanks for your Comms Alan.
Great review Shane. It looks a first class bit of kit. As you say if you're hiking only a few miles there's no point in splitting hairs about weight. Now for the cost. Take care. Mark
I tried so hard to like a hammock but in the end I went with the little metal folding cot, air mattress and pads. Sleeping bag. I have to lay flat and above the ground. I envy hammock sleepers! I get too twisted and wracked with pain.
Thanks GR, that’s a shame, I have found this one to be bigger and more comfy and not restive if that’s any help. Hope you find your ideal. Appreciate your Comms.
Interesting review, thanks! I'd be curious as to how this compared to some of the big US brands like Dutchware, Warbonnet and Dream Hammock, all of which focus on that asymmetric/diagonal 'flat' lay. You look pretty flat in that though! By the way, weight is a big thing for me which is why I choose a simpler set up and underquilt (20+km hikes before pitching are the norm). Also I snip my zips off completely (just the pulls!) and replace them with cord. Also stops the little jangly noise 🙂
good review Shane i use the cordage on the zips it works great. the under blanket looks like a nappy . that made me laugh . i wish it was i wouldn't have to get out at 2 am for my call of nature lol. i think your right about the under blanket the way it looks mainly on the xl but it does work well . well for me anyway . one or two of my friends said they slip of the mats in the hammocks i don't know my self i haven't tried it . the suspension looked great i haven't changed mine. and found they stretch a lot through the night . i will have to look into that at some point. but once again great video atb mo
Thank you mo, hope you and Gill are both well my friend. I think that’ll stick you know, I can imagine in camps around the country, “ your hammock is wearing a nappy, must be incontinent “lol. All the best mo
Great review but stop hitting the hammock. I have the underblanket on mine and absolutely love it compared to using the xtherm. Really converted to hammock camping and the Hilleberg has now been in the cupboard for months now.
Great review Shane, it's like the lazy boy of hammocks love it gonna get me one of them, also the tips on stringin it up, very helpful. Cheers mate and ATB. Jim.
Thanks for the review Shane! But as I mentioned before, it's too heavy for me. And personally, I don't need all that much space in a hammock. But that always depends on personal feelings. :-) Take care and I wish you a couple of quiet and relaxed holidays and a happy new year!
Ja, very informative - in hilarious despair of realising that my consignment is not the xl - ups - but it'll be good, with the truth of your comments woven into its dimensions. I'll sleep on that! Have a good night mate.
Thanks for a really useful review! I know this is old, but a few suggestions: - Don't pointlessly jump-cut mid-sentence just for the sake of it, only if you genuinely need to cut between two shots. It's just distracting. - Don't repeatedly hit objects which you are holding while wearing a lapel mic. The mic amplifies anything close to it, meaning you are drowning out your own voice when you keep whacking the hammock bag.

@@skaramicke The DD Frontline XL is more like the XXL!! Very wide and long. I always have plenty of head and feet room.
best review I've seen of this model, great work!

Great review... cheers. I think it's time for a DD XL :-) thanks very much for taking the time to do the review. Lee (Burton Outdoors)
Thank you BO I’m really really happy with mine, great bit of kit
Great review Shane, Have a very happy Christmas and New year. Colin
Thank you colin

No, you can do that no problem, but the addition of whoopie slings just gives more flexibility
@@IsleofWightBushcraft alright thank you that‘s what I thought. Thank you for the video it really helped a lot. I‘ve now ordered the hammock and I‘m looking forward to it :)
You’re welcome
@@IsleofWightBushcraft are you still using the hammock and if so how is it holding up?
Oh yeh, I love the hammock. Much better than on the ground, for me that is.
Great review. I have the normal Frontline hammock which I find a bit small although I am only 6ft.

Thanks for the reply. Might have to get one. Looks like I'll have to get a bigger Tarp as well.
Alan
Again I have several tarps, wouldn’t use 3x3 with this, but 4x3 no problem
Bought both the XL hammock and tarp but not had the opportunity to use them yet
Hi can you tell me what spacing you recommend between trees for this hammock .
4.5 to 5 paces is ideal I find.
Great review video ! I just bought one and will try it out next week !
You’ll love it. Great hammocks
Great review pal just purchased one of these my self, can’t wait to test it out 😁
These are great hammocks
Great review Shane. It looks a first class bit of kit. As you say if you're hiking only a few miles there's no point in splitting hairs about weight. Now for the cost. Take care. Mark
You’ll sleep well in this puppy. You’re more than compensated in comfort for a little extra weight. Thanks for comments Mark. Take care mate.
Hi Shane, i already got a DD 3x3 tarp. Will this one keep me dry with the XL hammock?
I would get the 3x4 tarp. The 3x3 can be a struggle to get complete coverage of this hammock. Hope this helps
@@IsleofWightBushcraft Thanks Shane, yes I was thinking the same. I think I will buy the DD 3.5x3.5 M then my problem is solved ;-)
I would go for the 3 x 4.5.
Great review Shane. I'm definately getting one 😊 ticks all the boxes.
You won’t be disappointed dave.
Another great video mate, you just helped me make up my mind and I have just ordered my hammock, keep them coming mate from a rainy N.Ireland :)
Many thanks torp, you’ll be very pleased I’m sure.
Great review thanks for sharing 👍
Good review video Shane. Been looking at this hammock for a wee while. Might take a wee trip into DD and have a closer look. Thanks again bud. M😉👍🏼
