Hi Elliot. I live in Japan so I can illuminate a little on that name. The "-ten" just means shop, so I suspected Komatsu Awazuten simply referred to the location this unit belonged to. Sure enough, there is a McDonalds in the Awazu district of Komatsu City in Ishikawa Prefecture. I'd guess that is your device's original "home".
Hey man! You doing alright? Been a rough couple months for you. Glad to see you are still bright and happy though. (atleast on camera) we appreciate you and all your content! Keep up the great work Elliot!

"Komatsu Awazuten" (小松粟津店) seems to be the name/location of the McDonald's restaurant where that DSi was used (near the Awazu station in Komatsu, Ishikawa Prefecture).
For videogame and console history preservation it's pretty cool that these things were not completely vanished from existence and ended up in the hands of people who not only will preserve them but also document them for everyone, but I think that flipping hamburgers and making fries on a little screen is the last thing you want to do in your free time after being doing exactly the same the entire day, it makes me wonder why McDonald's eventually dropped the idea.
WELL to be fair, the amount of times people will truly hate their job (me included!) and then go home and hop on a life sim game that is essentially either a second job or is a version of their real job and just have a blast. so while you’re absolutely correct, this might have been their train of thought when making it! and they probably SHOULD have made this eventually available for public purchase to help out once it seemed like things were going sideways, like just make it a special collaboration bundle where you get the ds and the game for a certain price (because it certainly seems like you can play other ds games on it!)

I was the back end lead and the new general manager we had (he did not last long) really did not like me. He pretty much locked me in the office going over the computer training over and over hoping I would screw up so he could demote me.

The most hilarious thing about this is that it was probably setting in a drawer of some ex McDonalds employee collecting dust while they were completely oblivious to it’s value
I'm planning on turning my McDonald's touchscreen table into the biggest DS in the world. Could I reference clips of this video when I release my own video of the project? Just seems fitting.
Amazing. Using a high-end proprietary, limited-release tech with a tiny screen to explain simplistic physical tasks is probably the model definition of an “overkill”. Complete waste and a great piece of history to preserve.
