You are right. My first motorized 2 wheels was a Honda spree back in 1985 and I have been looking for a red one ever since ... I’d love to have one in my channel. Never got over 32 mph
I had a mint red one as well. my 1 friend had a black one and the other had a track. initially my spree would only do 30 my friends would leave me behind with me yelling to them to wait up with them laughing Me and a friend took the air cleaner sponge/filter out stuck it in gas and rung it out, put it back in. then while riding doing 30 I would squeeze the tube from the carb to the air cleaner. air would force into the opening between the carb valve and the tube from squeezing it and the motor would wine out burying the speedometer. Long story short my friends were then yelling to me to wait up. with me giving them the middle finger.
Fantastic video!.. I've had my Spree for 5+ years and love cruising around on it. I killed the engine a couple years ago, didn't notice the air filter was not in it when I bought it and rode it like that for a few years/summers. Anyway I replaced it with a $35 chinese standard bore.. then killed it again at the end of last summer. Yesterday I put in the 48mm big bore($65).. of course just watching your video today and a little worried, although only out a little money and time. So far it's ok.. still breaking it in but it's definitely a little peppier. I'd read about the engine swap but worried I wouldn't be capable.. but if it only takes a few hours and a couple hundred bucks and not too difficult it would be awesome to be able to go 45. I love the size/weight of the Spree just always wished it was a little faster and a little more power. I have a 1981 Passport and it's great but constant shifting even without dealing with the hand clutch is still annoying.
This is making me really miss my scooters especially my sprees. You know how much I have done with them. my hands down favourite add on was the MLM mopeds tuned pipe for the spree block. I did the testing with their prototype years ago and what a ton of fun it was.
Hey, pat! I’ve only seen your ancient scriptures in the Honda spree forums! Trying to restore and give some more top end to a recently bought 83’ aero 80.
I had a Taiwanese 63cc kit on mine and drilled out the jet. Once the exhaust broke off the thing became a banshee. Was faster than 70cc kitted mopeds with a pipe in both acceleration and top speed. Thing was wicked fast for what it was, 50mph easy
I just bought a spree and I wish I would've got a tact or a aero 50 I also have a aero nh125 and I only put a bigger carb and a new belt and it goes 55 and they don't sell no aftermarket parts for that bike neither I bought lighter weights springs and got a variators that fits but it got cold out so when the weather gets nice ill try those parts and I want to port the engine too
1985 Spree, stock. Runs excellent. I use it for work, really need more low end power. I'd like to maintain the 25+mph, but I was originally thinking about turning new pulleys that would provide a max 20 MPH. Do you already have a set? Interested in engine swap after your video as variable would be the best, but weight needs to remain around the same. What is the weight difference with the Elite engine swap? Thanks, Mike
@@Scooterswapshop Ok, I will, thanks. I haven't done anything since our conversation except to buy an Aero 50 that probably doesn't need much to run... Was going to swap the engine into the Speed, but might be just as good to use Aero instead. I really need to keep the weight down around that of the Spree.
@@Scooterswapshop lol I'm late on all your videos trying to catch up. You guys are the best. You guys are the reason me and my brother got back on the scooter game.

I always tell people just do what fits in your budget. If you look you can typically find an older Honda elite or Zuma for close to the same price as a used Chinese bike. If you can’t then just get whatever fits your budget. 2 stroke vento or something like that will be a Chinese bike that will be pretty easy to get speed out of

Great video. I would love to hear you talk about the old 85 Honda Elite 250's and early 80's C70 passports.
Definitely! Sometimes we have several ch’s in the shop. Next time we have a nice lineup I will :).

Great informative bud dude keep it up
Can I take my head to a machine shop and get it lathed out for a bigger piston but it seems kinda pointless if it doesn't have a variator that shifts.
I was about to buy a 1984 spree thanks . Lucky I seen your video
things have changed since.

Hey Can you make a video how to swap an elite into a spree thanks
maybe some day
A lot of people wanna do elite to spree swaps
When are these billet pulleys going to be a thing?? I am interested in that!
theyre on the list, my cnc guy just has to get them done!
@@Scooterswapshop That is awesome! I can't wait for those, I will definitely have to have it!
Great music 🎶
Is the 1984 Honda Spree worth it stock for $475??
Force YT bought a 88 mint Spree for $500. I’d say if it runs it’s worth that price.
depends on you bud now days thats super cheap 2 years ago sure
Do you sell fork rebuild kits? My forks are leaking
That was my first bike it was literally indestructible we used to jump it on the dirt jumps in my back yard
hahah
Hi I have a 87 spree and am looking to swap it but I really need some guidance
Just get yourself a Honda dio engine and swap it out. It's super easy to do.
af16 and go ham
My first bike. About to get it back. Last time I saw it was 1990
nice!
what model is at the back of the red spree on your thumbnail? ty
What model is this motor ? AF16 etc ? and do you have a video on the AF series and whats the difference cheers
oem spree motor
that explains why my engine had to be rebuild a year after i got the scooter
I just bought one last week with 4k miles for 700$ and the only problem was the blinkers don’t work 😊
Deal!
I'm sure someone can machine something that screws on to the shaft to extend it and just machine out the variator to a bigger size
Not really cause you’d need a different belt, different kicker cover and smaller rollers. We looked into it awhile back
My Friend Albert Dilla has the 1986 Red Honda Spree 2-stroke scooter he use it to work and back home its vey smokey and his muffler and tailpipe is very very Brown And Rusty
Would installing just an oem belt do anything?
Yes if yours is worn
@@Scooterswapshop My belt operates, but curious if a new one would increase top speed/decrease initial acceleration.
What do you think the weight limits are on a Spree 1987❓
250lbs
If you are looking for something reasonably fast and affordable but limited on cash output is there ANYTHING Chinese you would suggest?

So why can't you just weld a bigger spline or spindle or whatever you call it to the original part on the bike,! ???
try it
Can you put in a 87 elite motor? Is it plug and play..
a af16? what motor exactly? another afo5?
@@Scooterswapshop It's out of a 1987 elite it's an AF05E I think

For europe they called it Honda melody 😁
nice!
I know how to make a stock Honda Spree bury the speedometer.
Me and a friend took the air cleaner sponge/filter out stuck it in gas and rung it out, put it back in.
then while riding doing 30 I would squeeze the tube from the carb to the air cleaner. air would force into the opening between the carb valve and the tube from squeezing it and the motor would wine out burying the speedometer.
I have a question? Can you put back on the old motor when you have swapped it for a new one
That depends on how you change your engine and shock mounts for the new engine.
that's not answerable with out specifics
That was my first bike
nice
Am I the only one who thought he was going to show a spree with a big transformation?
yep
piaggio best engine !!
