I'm a complete beginner. Went there yesterday. Lovely drive over the rollercoaster hills. Nearly fell onto the beach, the rope saved my bacon. Made 2 birds nests. Couldn't cast in a straight line. Lost 2 sets of tackle on the ledge. Cracked my rod. Top half of the rod went swimming. Had to get out beyond my wellies to collect it. Think I got nibbles but wasn't sure if it was nibbles or seaweed. Caught no mackerel. Drove back wet and cold. And I LOVED every minute. Very valuable lessons learned for my future development. Thankyou for the inspirational videos.

When I held it in my hand I was excited yet curiously convicted. I felt a sense of remorse when it put up such a fight to survive. It was too small. So it went back. If it had been bigger I would have definitely scoffed it for dinner.

For someone who makes videos, most of the time it’s the fish that gives the video content but deep down I’m happy being outdoors whether I’m catching or not just enjoying the journey. @TheGhs1 I spent as a young teenager a million years ago fishing for mackerel on the river Clyde me and my pals would caught 50 each bag them then give the mackerel to all or neighbours .if you love fishing , Scotland is a remarkable country to do so, lochs fresh water sea lochs sea trout salmon cod pollack and the scenery watching osprey eagles ,otters amazing
Thanks for the tip on watering the wood chips, last year I used Apple wood there was a bitter taste think due to some wood around the edge turning into charcoal. I live over a hundred mile from the sea so only two days out this years no tight lines yet.

I would eat plain grilled or smoked mackerel any day of the week but It’s something a bit different and makes a wee change. Can’t beat it cooked fresh on the beach if you get the weather. Thanks again pal

Its like masterchef meets fishin ..i stay in cove round the corner . Regularly catch sea trout on the fly rod in front of house . Sea trout taste great but fresh fresh mackerel is the best eating

Great video dougie I go away fishing and camping for days on end and have found freezing bottles of water and wrapping in tin foil is the best way to keep things fresh get 2/3 days out then in the shade

Different class mate,nostalgia at its finest,my grandad used to take me to loch awe and used to cook up loch awe goulash as he called it,basically whatever tins he had it home in one pot,tasted amazing when yer by the water,yours is bit more refined dougie😂 I’ll deffo give that a go mate,great clip👌

Mackerel in Anglesey have been a little sparse so far this summer. They seem to be arriving later and later, where April and May was busy years ago it seems mid August to September! That's global warming for ya! When I lived in Shetland it was almost year round! Gonna go try this weekend. We shall see!

@@ioandco. thanks your welcome my friend. Yes there is enough room to park your car there. You can catch mackerel anytime during the day but in my experience it’s less productive when the light starts to fade

@@sunfisherbum the rod is quite old mate and I can’t find links for it. Any surf rod or lure rod will do 10-11ft casting weight up to 60gram. The reel is a 4000 Penn battle 2. For this type of fishing any sea reel 4-5000 size will do mate. I also use this setup for light- medium beach fishing for flatties

Hi Bert, if the tin wasn’t enclosed then yes thicker fillets would be closer to the heat source. There’s a good build up of steam and heat with the lid on and Ive certainly not had an issue with undercooked fish, even for the 9 minutes. Thanks for taking the time to comment buddy👍

Hi there James, I use a fluorocarbon leader buddy about the length of my rod. Mono will probably be ok for this kind of fishing though. I’ve got fluoro on the reel as I use it for lure fishing also.

The smokin midge was perfect for me mate. I certainly noticed the difference when the cones stopped smoking. I don’t think there is anything that’s 100% against the midge and I’ve tried everything. I do agree that certain products, balms, creams, sprays and potions work better for some individuals. The small cones do burn quickly, they also have larger cones that burn a lot longer for 45mins

Try a sprinkle of brown sugar on the flesh side with your seasoning when smoking, or a dribble of hunny

Waste of money
The smokin midge was perfect for me mate. I certainly noticed the difference when the cones stopped smoking. I don’t think there is anything that’s 100% against the midge and I’ve tried everything. I do agree that certain products, balms, creams, sprays and potions work better for some individuals. The small cones do burn quickly, they also have larger cones that burn a lot longer for 45mins
