I had this exact same issue on pretty much the exact same card (mine was an SC2). Three dead memory channels in the upper right corner of the GPU. Which didn't pass the common sense check, very unlikely that 3 modules died at the same time. GPU had no thermal paste on that corner, which probably killed the memory controller. Anyhow, instead of swapping in a new memory module, I swapped memory chips between a known good channel and a known bad channel. My suspicions were confirmed. Not only did the errors not change channels, but the error count didn't change either. Therefore, dead GPU memory controller. Take a lesson, children: bad thermal paste can kill your GPU! This test also demonstrated that the memory chip taken from the dead channel was still perfectly fine, and therefore all 11 VRAM chips were likely still good.
Hi, I have a specific graphic for the operating processor. I'm looking for the pcb since my pcb was burned by a mosfet, I only need the evga pcb or founder edition, how do I get it? can someone sell me? just the pcb without the processor
Dear Tech Cemetery, thanks for sharing Your experience with this card. Sometimes unsuccessful repair brings more experience than a successful one. Great work!
Where do you get the datasheets for these cards? I'm trying to repair my 1080Ti and I can't find ANY documentation or a PCB layout. The 1.8v rail is ohming out at ~.430 and I've heard you state the the lowest you've seen is on PNY cards at .650 so I'm pretty sure that's my problem right there. However, I'm not sure how to further diagnose because I don't know what is connected to the 1.8v rail and what the values of said components would be. Love your content btw, you inspired me, I went out and got a multimeter and heat gun :) I've been building PCs and PC gaming for over 20 years, I'm trying to get more into how everything works now and doing my own repairs etc. I know I can fix this card, it boots into Windows, but only once the card has cooled down. It appears that the warmer the card gets, the lower the resistance becomes on the 1.8v rail, and anything below about .430ohms and the BIOS gives me a 'vga card not supported by uefi driver, CSM has been enabled for compatibility' error. I can enter BIOS, let the card cool for a few seconds and boot right into Windows no problem. Games and overclocks fine. The card got some moisture damage which is why it's not working properly in the first place. I vape in my room and it's a very small room, and there's little air flow. That coupled with fast spinning GPU fans on an OC'd unit and it was the perfect storm for vapour build up. That's the ONLY component that it built up on, I'm assuming it was attracted to the dust and the fast moving air from the high rpm fans allowed the aerosol to cool and consense rapidly, causing the build up. Can anyone help, or point me to a schematic for the EVGA 1080Ti FTW3?
A «no fix» situation always leaves a bitter aftertaste, but you learn something every time. That memory controller was cooked beyond salvation. Improper heatsink pressure, maybe...?
@@TechCemetery maybe result of repaste in same way people do on CPUs with heatspreader. I go nuts when I see somebody just put a blob of paste on GPU :)

Your knowledge suprises me in every video I'm watching.... please allow me to ship my rtx2070s (black screen, no boot) to you so you can do your magic... I dont trust my seller in fixing it on warranty conditions or replacing to new one.
Great diagnosis. I wonder how the controller died. I don't think it was electromigration, given the brown spot I'm guessing the cooler was incorrectly mounted at the factory (assuming the buyer didn't open it up) causing it to cook itself to death. Really bad time to lose a 1080 Ti, RIP.
In theory can you disable or "down bin" the card to a lower bit memory? Like going from dual channel to single channel on ddr4? And similar to a 1060 5gb?
Is it possible to run the card with part of the memory missing? I mean, also if this means to tinkering a bit with bios or memory configuration resistor. If yes, how exactly works the memory architecture for 2gb 4gb 6g and, of course, based on the number of modules you got on the card. TIA.
You are the best!! Can you help, my gpu msi 1080ti gaming x missing a resistance and if you can tell me the value, the resistance is r1359 next to U511, i can send you a picture if you want.
i am watching every single video u put up. Tried repairing a GTX 1070ti rog strix today, but im lost How do you know what voltages each vrm is supposed to give u? I´ve managed to find a working 5Volt line, but the other VRMs are dead. I cant really figure out which vrm is used for what, is there a way to find that out?
Hi! how are you? I have an asus Gtx 1080 turbo that is missing a component on the back. I don't know what it is, but the component numbering on the pcb is: U502. It's close to the ASUS brand. Do you happen to have a similar model?

question. Isn't there a way to bypass memory modules? theoretically speaking, instead of 8gb, have 7gb
In theory? yes. But BIOS modding on Pascal is locked down and so only Nvidia could disable it.
