  • I decided to put my '07 Honda Jazz 1.5 VTEC on the dyno to see how much of a difference VTEC on vs VTEC off would make and the results are quite surprising.
    Specs :
    '07 Honda Jazz 1.5 VTEC
    L15A1
    Manual Swapped (Originally CVT-7)
    "Custom" Intake
    Catless Midpipe
    Big thank you to J2 Performance for allowing me to use their dyno
    / j2performance_wc
    / j2performance-11390917...
    *Also sorry for the abrupt cuts after the dyno runs, I am 100% clueless when it comes to editing videos

    Some clarification for those who want to know how I'm going from 12 valve operation to 16 valve operation.
    My Jazz was originally CVT-7. I completed a manual swap not too long ago and unfortunately the stock 1.5 AT ECU does not like missing sensors so it won't allow me to rev over 4000rpm. I couldn't find a 1.5 MT ECU anywhere so I resorted to using the 1.3 i-DSI ECU and I have VTEC wired to 12v+ so it's always in 16 valve mode, however if I unplug the solenoid then I'm back to 12 valve mode.
    I've imported a new ECU and it should be here within the next 2 months. I'll put the Jazz back on the dyno after it's installed.

      Well, it’s more of a showcase than anything to show how important VTEC-e is in this example but the figures for the 16 valve mode are pretty close to what the OEM specifications are (81kw/145nm) which is impressive considering I’m using the wrong ECU.

    Is the ecu plug and play? I have a L13a twinspark gd1 and I’d like to make it slightly less slow by swapping to a L15a. Hopefully it just needs the engine loom and L15a ecu and it should all work happily?

    • @Pynoxim1
      @Pynoxim1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, it’s almost plug and play, you just need to have the new ECU paired to your existing keys so that the immobiliser is happy but other than that everything is 95% plug and play.

    • @Pynoxim1

      Hey man, it shows a code for the missing front coilpacks but it doesn' throw a CEL since it is wired to fire the rear coils as the main coils. You can use a 1.5 AT ECU though, just need to fit some resistors to tell the ECU that the AT box is still there even though it isn't.

    • @Pynoxim1

      Hey, so the normal switchover is between 2600-3600rpm and is based on vacuum/map readings. It can’t generally be heard however I do have an ECUMaster EMU Classic and if I set the crossover at 4500rpm or higher it is very audible.

      Hey! It will indeed work, the only thing is that you'll have to wire up the VTEC solenoid to ignition so that it's always on otherwise you will only be running in 12-valve mode. Everything else will be the same though.

    That’s not an l15 a1. I don’t think it’s even vtec. But 1.3 idsi engine. vtec should Rev to 6800 rpm if want more power ditch cold air intake and use stock air box and good quality filter

    • @Pynoxim1
      @Pynoxim1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey. It's an L15A1. The engine number noted on the engine block is L15A1 as well as on my license disc. It has 4 spark plugs as opposed to the 8 on the L13A1 iDSI. With the stock airbox and exhaust it made 2.6kw less than with the intake and exhaust. The exhaust actually made no difference. Ditching the stock airbox made all the difference (Even just the intake minus the filter). Also, L15A1 has an RPM limiter of 6300RPM whereas L15A7 has an RPM limiter of 6800RPM. Also the reason the power figures are so different is because I physically unplugged the VTEC solenoid on the front of the head which is something only the GD3 L15A1 has. Either way this isn't really an issue anymore, the Jazz is turbocharged at the moment.
