    Nice sounds just like Marshall tones from classic rock albums!

    I have that amp too, definitely a keeper for sure. Get the six button foot switch tho, it's worth it. 👍

    My fav way of using this is kinda old school, just setup the crunch channel mid gain, roll off guitar volume for cleans and various boosts for different lead or heavier tones ... Dod250, ts9 , or sd1. I wish the dsl20cr had the crunch and od1 of this amp, cuz i would def want that one more size wise.

    On part 1, you said you'd touch on the OD tones at bedroom levels on this part. Any comment? Looking to buy one, thanks!

      Appreciate the question. On this video, I played all samples at bedroom levels. Each of the four channels sounded great at low volume, IMO.
      Some folks complain about Ultra Gain/Red Channel "fizziness". IMO most of this can be EQed out while still at bedroom levels.
      This is the most versatile amp I've ever owned. You can essentially accomplish any tone you can imagine. Of interest: After some time with the amp, I modded it out by swapping the stock V-Type speaker for an English-made G12T-75. This provided even more traditional Marshall response and sound, at least to my ears.
      Having said all that, I highly recommend getting in front of one and seeing for yourself. I think the DSL40CR is a superb amp. But nothing will compare to you plugging in, dialing in your own tones, and seeing how it suits your style!

    I have a DSL40. i only use the clean setting of the classic channel with an overdrive pedal in the front. For me, cranking the gain or ultra gain settings are too bright n fizzy.

    • @TheKevinNewsom
      @TheKevinNewsom  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've noticed that the tone of distortion thickens up when the volume is increased. That may not be practical in a bedroom setting, however.

    • @TheKevinNewsom
      @TheKevinNewsom  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Also: Changing the speaker cuts out a lot of the fizz. Celestion G12T-75 hits the sweet spot.

      Yeah the go to recomdation is changing the speaker to a creamback 65m.. and i concur

    Needs separate EQ for 2 channels IMO.

    Excellent review, everything one needs to know about the amp. I love mine, unfortunately, though, after 3 years of light use the amp switched channels while I was playing and now no sound is coming out.

      Sorry to hear that! Stories like those were common during the 40's first run. They led me to leave a rather scathing review many moons back. If the tubes are still good, I suspect it's a solder issue on the pcb.

    • @destroso
      @destroso หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@TheKevinNewsom the tubes are all lighting up. I contacted Marshall Friday, let’s see how good their 5 year warranty is! I started playing it through an attenuator recently so maybe the extra power really put it to the test.

      @@TheKevinNewsom off to a bad start, their response: Thank you for reaching out to us, if your amplifier is still under warranty we would recommend contacting the retailer it was purchased through, if they are unable to assist you then please come back to us with proof of purchase along with your state and zip code, and we can provide details of your nearest service centre.
      I sent them my proof of purchase purchase so they should know whether it’s under warranty or not. Contacting guitar center but I’m sure they’ll say it’s not their problem. When I bought this amp it was the last one they had in store, it was a floor model and they didn’t even give me a discount, I knew at the time it was a mistake to buy a floor model but my friend and the salesperson convinced me it made no difference, my fault.

      @@destroso Sorry to hear of the rocky start. Hopefully either Marshall or GC can get you to a service center that's close by. The warranty for DSL40CR is 5 years for parts and 3 years for labor. Please let me know if Marshall honors their warranty.

    I think you made something out of nothing concerning a channel switching delay

    • @KipCount
      @KipCount 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      disagree. this is a huge deal with this amp. If you're switching between channels while playing it's very jarring. I've defaulted to using the Classic channel green with pedals to avoid this. The Classic green channel really is fantastic with pedals so I don't feel I"m missing out. I do wish they'd designed this switching to be seamless like I've seen on sooo many other channel switching amps.

      @@KipCountI wonder if the response is different pressing the amps button vs pedal?

    • @natebush9983
      @natebush9983 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@KipCount I'm with you. "Jarring" is a perfect description. In fact it may be the ultimate reason why I return this amp (the volume difference between the clean and crunch being another). My Hot Rod Deluxe is seamless transitioning between channels. The overdrive on that Fender amp is enough for me to not even need additional drive/dist pedals.

    • @KipCount
      @KipCount 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@1997LT1Camaro it's exactly the same using the included footswitch, with the onboard buttons, or with midi switching (tried with an HX Stomp for MIDI control). The switching is the same. It's due to the relay used in the amp, and Marshall confirmed this and said that's why, and that it wasn't a fault, but just the design they went with.

    • @KipCount
      @KipCount 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@natebush9983 Have you ever tried the JVM combos? I'm wondering if the switching is better on those.
