There is a lot of talk about the 48 megapixel sensor. Something which I read, which sounds reasonable, is that rather than offering extra resolution - which perhaps would be limited by the lens at that figure - the extra photosites allow for realtime HDR. Instead of one photosite per pixel, you have four, recording signals of different intensity (effectively, no idea how it works in practice). If HDR images take about the same time to shoot as normal ones, and if you never get more movement in them than regular ones shot in the same conditions, that would be a potential way support this theory.
Couple of things: The sensor is indeed a 48 MP one, but it uses pixel binning in low light and produces a 12 MP image. In daylight it does not produce the same quality as a 48MP on a camera, because it has a different from standard Bayer filter arrangement to allow for the pixel binning. Still the image quality is way above average. Second - quick charge has little impact on 0 - 100% charge time. However 0 - 50% or 30 mins charges are much improved.
no! miui has better camera algorithm than others! that's why their portrait mode is better with edge detection which is better than other phone's software camera!
Isn't the 12MP on the Redmi Note 7 pixel binned? And if so wouldn't the low light still pictures be great when compared to the Redmi Note 5 or other competitors even though it doesn't have PDAF
I think for quickcharge you have to measure how fast it gets to 50 or 70%. Full charge will always be slower and not that much difference since ~70-100 will always be a slow charge
It uses pixel binding to combine 4 pixels into 1 large pixel. The sensor captures image in 48mp and outputs in 12 mp. So although the output is 12mp but the image is far better than native 12mp sensor
@@JamilKhan-hk1wl you are wrong 😉. A good 12 Mp sensor will be better especially in low light situations, because it gets more light per pixel... (4 times more light)...
Not true, its all about the implementation and quality of lenses. This Samsung GM1 sensor is inferior to RN5 Global Samsung sensor , only advantage is a tiny bit of lesser noise in low light, nothing you can notice unless you do a huge zoom
The notification problems are a known issue on newer MIUI roms, these problems are fixed on China stable/dev roms right now. There is a user made app that fixes them until then though, forgot the name but the xiaomi subreddit probably has it somewhere if you search for it. Think it was notification repeater.

Even when you disable ithat for Whatsapp and Twitter they still come in late or only when you open the app. I have this on my Mi8 SE. The only fix is to disable it fully in developer options.
Hello, Chris. What would you consider an upgrade from Honor 9 in terms of having a small, mid-range, all-round phone in 2019 in the price segment of 250-350 euros ? Thanks
Love how people complain about a budget phone .. lol this is great for the average civilian like myself that doesn't wanna pay 1k for a phone .and like me I'm sure that this phone has made a lot of people happy without the picky shit attitude other pricks have. Don't ask for gold when you know your paying for silver.
I am looking at a few different "budget" options, but for some reason keep gravitating towards this phone. Would you say that this is a good phone that can be used every day? Considering either this, the mi9 se or the Lenovo z6 lite
Thanks for the reviews! Can't wait until they release the Pro version (with sony camera, better battery and snapdragon 675) and then for the European release of the said version (so it supported LTE bands in the UK). I have a Redmi Pro now and it's slowly starting to fail me at times so the time has come. Hope it will last those few months more so I could get my hand on the European Note 7 Pro :)
Great channel man. Really informative! I own a note 4x and I am thinking of upgrading to a note 7 but I don't know if it is worth it as all my needs are being covered by the note 4x! @@Techtablets yea but it seems that the new Sony sensor is for real 48mpx. Tho I think they will ruin it with the poor software implementation. U will get the note 7 pro for review?
Great comparison!! I really like your honest reviews and recommendation at the end of the videos! Can you comment on what would be the competitor to this level of phone? Also, concerned about the background apps being canceled and could you elaborate on what you mean about this not happening on the global version. Thank you!
It's not fake, you guys should know the samsung GM1, its a 12mp sensor but can do an interpolation to make 48mp pict. Several phone out there that can take 48mp pict are using either Sony IMX 586 and Samsung GM1. The one using Sony IMX 586 are true 48mp but its color filter is quad bayer so it's more like a 12mp sensor. Yes, samsung GM1 and Sony IMX 586 are same in size, but take different aproach.
the major drawback IMHO is the lack of dual pixel AF, this phone hunts a pretty lot with taking photos and videos in low light. I'll wait for RMN7 PRO global version, that one can be very interesting and with better SOC and cameras.
Hi TechTablets, Interesting video as always, but can you provide a quick explanation or short version why it's a fake 48mp? Really hard to understand the accent during that portion. :) Is it because of the sensor being used?
Can you please get a QC 4.0 charger and review it with your phone that supports it? Coz I can't find any review about QC 4.0 in any smartphone. And please make comparison with Huawei supercharge 40w and oppo super vooc 50w charger
Doesn't come close to the rates of the fast chargers by Huawei and Oppo so no point. Not to add, but hard to find QC 4.0 chargers for sale as well cos not many of them
You are zooming before you take the picture. Not after taking the picture. 12 mpix means adding 4 megapixels to each megapixel to make the camera more photosensitive
What would you recommend to some one coming in to a buy a new phone ReadMi Note 7 Or Redmi Note 5 Pro Or maybe Xiome A2 My one plus 3t broke last week and I am looking for a replacement in the budget range
Thanks Chris .good video as usual.I saw your comparison on Twitter (original file) .could u compare 12 & 48 modes outdoors in good sunlight using a tripod or something? thanks again.
You should also review at night of both these camera gcam and stock with eis on including video sample with front and rear. Don't worry you will get too much views on that video.
They said that the 48mp is using picture binning by using software to reduce noise since the chipset don't support up to that high and they will had a hand held night mode(like mi mix 3) coming through OTA update
Does the new Note 7 still have the problem of your cheek putting you on mute during a call? This has been a problem for me with all Xiaomi Redmi phones that I've owned (starting at Redmi 3).
The notification problem could be because the android os modified by xiaomi reduces the ram in use of the system by closing the background applications. I think there is an option to change how android handles that in the settings under the developer mode.
Yes they didnt fix that stutter when using full screen gesture then swiping up, i guess the ui confuses if you are going to multitask/recent or exiting the app

Watching from redmi note 5, redmi note 5 still rocks... I'm not planning to upgrade my redmi note 5 to redmi note 7.
Hi 5!
@@keerthanas9932 hi 5!
It's the battery saver settings thats killing apps in the background
Even when you disable ithat for Whatsapp and Twitter they still come in late or only when you open the app. I have this on my Mi8 SE. The only fix is to disable it fully in developer options.
@TechTablets.com Hi, thanks for an honest and brave review. Which is better in daylight shots: RN5ai or N7? In low light shots: RN5ai or N7? Thanks.
Hello, Chris. What would you consider an upgrade from Honor 9 in terms of having a small, mid-range, all-round phone in 2019 in the price segment of 250-350 euros ? Thanks
2:56 this happens when you turn on "dont keep activities" on developer's options you probably should check it and see if you turned it on
Love how people complain about a budget phone .. lol this is great for the average civilian like myself that doesn't wanna pay 1k for a phone .and like me I'm sure that this phone has made a lot of people happy without the picky shit attitude other pricks have. Don't ask for gold when you know your paying for silver.
Exactly
Great video mate :)
Few fanboys having a mental breakdown over the fake 48mp camera over on Reddit haha
Yep they are :)
it's called pixel binning you dumb fuck, please don't embarrass yourself like that while clearly having zero knowledge
It's a real 48mp camera. It just does pixel binning that is. It combines 4 pixels into one. It's because the size of 48mp photos is just too big.
the raw sensor is only 12mp in the rn7 same as rn5..but the output is 48mp..and can be notice that fuction only in zooming the photo
48mp is for marketing.
Hope it will last those few months more so I could get my hand on the European Note 7 Pro :)
thanks chris! amazing the only english speaking reviewer for these asian phones!
Great channel man. Really informative! I own a note 4x and I am thinking of upgrading to a note 7 but I don't know if it is worth it as all my needs are being covered by the note 4x! I seldomly take photos, almost never play games, mainly watching TH-cam videos, Twitch etc. Would appreciate some input, thanks!
Keep up the detailed videos man! Just give us a link to the working gcam.
It's in the description
Totally agree to not upgrading my redmi note 5 ai to the 7. I'll just wait for the pro or the ai version. Anyway your videos are very helpful, i bought my redmi note 5 ai after watching your video. Keep on going man love your vids
Does your redmi note 5 really has AI?
*vsauce theme plays*
Dat Vsauce theme really got me ahaha, i don't know about the AI tho but the variant that available in my country has the same specs as the AI variant
Thnks for The Gcam port, worked on my pocophone better than The other version.
I'm an indian viewer ..
And it is first to see ur video ..for note 7 ..
Ur video is good I'm now subscribed u ...
And the is realy good..
The Color Black redmi note 7 is So cool, sexy, brilliant.
Compare the phone to the other brands that same price. Better than those just using brand to make the phone to expensive. Still impress over all!
Good review! As I already thought.. The 48 mpx is just a gimmick. Waiting for the note 7 pro...
Yeah a gimmick for sales.
@@Techtablets yea but it seems that the new Sony sensor is for real 48mpx. Tho I think they will ruin it with the poor software implementation. U will get the note 7 pro for review?
The redmi note 7 camera sensor is actually 48 MP, but 4 pixels make 1 bigger pixel. Redmi Note 7 Pro has 48 MP that can take 48 MP photos.
Great comparison!! I really like your honest reviews and recommendation at the end of the videos! Can you comment on what would be the competitor to this level of phone? Also, concerned about the background apps being canceled and could you elaborate on what you mean about this not happening on the global version. Thank you!
The Mi A2 or Redmi Note 5 to this Redmi Note 7 I feel.
@@Techtablets Thanks... Really?? What about the Note 6 Pro?? And...do you think that Note 7 Pro will be worth the wait?
My best reviewer thus far !
Thinking of buying Asus ZenFone Max Pro M2, hope u can offer some advice n hopefully a review of the phone.
Chris, shouldn't 48MP sensor have cluster of x4 pixel ( 12mp) to help in low light? Just like Sony “Quad Bayer” pixel array.
the major drawback IMHO is the lack of dual pixel AF, this phone hunts a pretty lot with taking photos and videos in low light. I'll wait for RMN7 PRO global version, that one can be very interesting and with better SOC and cameras.
Hi TechTablets,
Interesting video as always, but can you provide a quick explanation or short version why it's a fake 48mp? Really hard to understand the accent during that portion. :) Is it because of the sensor being used?
Love ur vids keep grindin!
Can you please get a QC 4.0 charger and review it with your phone that supports it? Coz I can't find any review about QC 4.0 in any smartphone. And please make comparison with Huawei supercharge 40w and oppo super vooc 50w charger
It will just be faster not buying one just for that test.
Doesn't come close to the rates of the fast chargers by Huawei and Oppo so no point.
Not to add, but hard to find QC 4.0 chargers for sale as well cos not many of them
@@HughesyTech QC 4.0 is basically QC 3.0+ USB-PD and only slightly faster
@@alannguyen2572 yeah exactly
How to buy 4.0 charger and where I buy it please provide a link
Fake 48 MP camera.
Seems legit for a budget phone
$200 for 12mp back cam and 13mp front cam is pretty good.
Great info! Keep up the great info Chris!
Hey :) I just wanted to ask, should i go with Redmi Note 7 or A7 Sasmung? :) I'm in doubt.. In comparison with camera, sound, speed :)
I guess they have thought you should use the 48mp function when you want to zoom and then take a photo
Smart
U need to enable autostart in the security app for the social media, mail apps..to get the notifications realtime.
Restart the phone after that.
You are zooming before you take the picture. Not after taking the picture. 12 mpix means adding 4 megapixels to each megapixel to make the camera more photosensitive
What would you recommend to some one coming in to a buy a new phone
ReadMi Note 7
Or Redmi Note 5 Pro
Or maybe Xiome A2
My one plus 3t broke last week and I am looking for a replacement in the budget range
Thanks Chris .good video as usual.I saw your comparison on Twitter (original file) .could u compare 12 & 48 modes outdoors in good sunlight using a tripod or something? thanks again.
I'll post a sample soon, same story, triple the file size but really no better
You should also review at night of both these camera gcam and stock with eis on including video sample with front and rear. Don't worry you will get too much views on that video.
Thanks for answering my question on whether to upgrade.
They said that the 48mp is using picture binning by using software to reduce noise since the chipset don't support up to that high and they will had a hand held night mode(like mi mix 3) coming through OTA update
Your review is just amazing, you tell everything we need to know
Does the new Note 7 still have the problem of your cheek putting you on mute during a call? This has been a problem for me with all Xiaomi Redmi phones that I've owned (starting at Redmi 3).
The notification problem could be because the android os modified by xiaomi reduces the ram in use of the system by closing the background applications. I think there is an option to change how android handles that in the settings under the developer mode.
I still have the Redmi Note 3 snapdragon and it doesn't seem all that better even performance wise it's not that big of a gap between them
Do I have to root the phone for installing the Gcam?
Or you just installed the apk and that's it?
Yes they didnt fix that stutter when using full screen gesture then swiping up, i guess the ui confuses if you are going to multitask/recent or exiting the app
Advising you to set animation scale to 0.5 and you can see difference
the fixed it already,no more stutters
Don't care what you say.....am still buying the NOTE 7........ Updates for the phone are planned...GREAT PHONE !!
Great video keep it up as always
cuando lo anunciaron jamas dijeron que el sensor de la cámara es de 48mpx, solo que tomaba fotos a 48mpx mediante software al igual que el huawei p20
My parents are using Xiaomi's Redmi Note 5 Pro... Gold and Red variants. I use Redmi Note 6 Pro (Rose Gold, 6Gb and 64Gb variant) which I'm so much satisfied with.... I'm planing to buy Xiaomi's Mibook Air 12.5 inch laptop in Gold and Mi band 3. I'm absolutely in love with Xiaomi brand and I just wanted to stay in this ecosystem...I've one doubt. Can the Mibook laptop sync with my phone? If it is then I would be the most happiest person. And another question is, can we add more storage in mibook air as it has only 128 SSd storage and will it lag? Please let me know sir. I really like your videos. Good luck for your future videos. Subscribed to your channel.... Love from India. ☺️🇮🇳
I don't understand which way of syncronization do you mean. Can you explain yourself?
- Another thing. I think there is not going to be a problem upgrading the SSD of the Xiaomi's Laptop. I have a Dell XPS 13, and I swapped my 1Tb HDD with a 512 GB SSD and there is no problem. You just have to reinstall the system, or, if you prefer, you can clone your Hard Drive in the SSD one. I have a recommendation for you: Don't fill your new SSD (if you are going to buy the laptop); fill it until the half, because it would start to ralentize when u fill it after the half.
- Buy the Mi Band 3. I have it, and it's great for running, the battery life is just amazing, and the IP68 certification is awesome.
Sorry for my bad english, my native language is spanish. I hope I could have helped you
@@monkiflip3334 Ha ha that's ok mate.... My native language is Tamil.... English is just a second language for me... Anyway thank you so much for your reply.... It was quite useful.....I'm now gonna order Mibook Air 12.5' inch laptop and Miband 3. Let's hope the best.... ☺️
@@monkiflip3334 which mobile ur using
No matter what sensor they put in, in every Redmi the pictures look same bad... i don't know how they do that, maybe they do nothing.
Bad software optimisation
Isn't the note 5 and 7 have same front cam? Which is omnivision? Cuz we have this problem on rn5ai front cam black sometimes needs and only works on pixel 2 cam. The 5.1 version
Same sensor but this version of gcam it works
@@Techtablets so the gcam u link in the description works with redmi note 5 ai too?
Is there not a chance that upgrades will improve the 48 mpx camera in the near future? I'm not sure if the RN5's camera was just as good when it launched.
48mp fake? It only work on Pro Mode.
Are the prices of the RN7 and RN7pro going to be having a huge difference ?
