      Your comment definitely sounds like an insult. The OP comment aimed towards the guys good looks and making light of his situation around his amputations...which judging by his bubbly persona, he’d obviously also find funny.

    Hi Cameron,
    My name is Chris, i`m a 64 year old above right knee amputee from South Africa. I live in a village by the name of Clarens in the Eastern Free State, we are surrounded by the most amazing sand stone mountain ranges. At present it is raining quite heavily, i was busy going through various you tube site with regards to prosthetic knees when i came across your video. I have not been so inspired since loosing my leg, you have really been such an inspiration in that video i just can't tell you how much. I just need to get the right prosthetic and i will be able to climb all these mountains with my family which i thought was totally out of my reach, no my dreams could also become reality. Cameron you are an amazing person, healthy able body people could learn so much from you...don't ever stop.

    The mom was 100% correct to walk out of the first doctors office! My sister was in a motorcycle accident and the handle of the bike went through her thigh. The ER doctor said he had to amputate her leg at the hip to save her life, but mom cussed him out and said she wanted a real doctor! She very quickly found someone who agreed to try to save my sisters leg. She now has a hole in her thigh big enough to put your fist in, but she can do anything she could before the accident. She does have some pain at times and has to put her leg up when she sits down, but if mom had listened to the ER doctor, she would have had a completely different life. Not necessarily a worse life, but definitely a bit more difficult life.

    • @a.k.7341
      @a.k.7341 6 ปีที่แล้ว +84

      Definitely it would have been a worse life, of course. That evil piece of garbage doctor who didn't even want to save her leg should have his medical license permanently revoked, never to work in medicine in any way, and to be In the news as the evil garbage who wanted to amputate a girl's leg. Only the PATIENT must decide if they want to live or die in that situation- it should never be forced on them

    • @mchobbit2951
      @mchobbit2951 6 ปีที่แล้ว +141

      Not having the limb is not always a worse life. I know a young man who was in a car accident and wrecked his leg. The doctor did what you should always try first, save the leg. But the leg kept causing him problems. He was always in and out of the hospital and in pain. He eventually decided to get it amputated and is doing better than he did with it now. But it was a choice he made after living with the leg post accident for several years. You never know how it's gonna go so I do think that the limb should be saved whenever possible at first. You can always cut it off later but it never grows back.

    • @sortathesame8701
      @sortathesame8701 6 ปีที่แล้ว +36

      @@mchobbit2951 you are 100% correct! At the very least, the doctor should have waited until she was conscious and able to make the decision of whether to try to save her leg and go through the very painful rehabilitation she went through or give up the leg and learn to walk with a prosthesis.

    • @sortathesame8701
      @sortathesame8701 6 ปีที่แล้ว +68

      @@a.k.7341, I don't think the doctor in the ER was a garbage doctor, he was just doing his job to the best of his ability. My sisters leg was not the only problem at the time. She was unconscious and remained unconscious for almost a week, so something had to be done long before she would have been able to make the decision herself. In his professional opinion, he thought the best choice was to remove the leg immediately and save his patient years of painful rehabilitation. My mother disagree and in her usual unthinking way, cussed the man out and went her own way. In this case, my mother's reaction was the correct one and saved my sisters leg, but trust me on this...quite often her usual response of flying mad and alienating everyone involved was NOT in the best interest of her three daughters!

      @Burnt Orange while I don't agree with the commenter that said the Dr was evil, I do know from experience working in the medical field (mostly ER) for years, that there are a lot of lazy incompetent physicians & surgeons that would rather take the easy way out in many instances. Also, my husband nearly lost his leg just below the knee bcuz of a *drunk* incompetent surgeon called in by the ER Dr 25 yrs ago. If I had let the fear take over and continued in my misguided belief that the "Dr *always* knows best" & let him guide our decisions in his care, I wouldn't have demanded they remove him from my husband's care and his/our life surely would've looked a lot different. Always advocate for the *best* treatment of your loved ones, and remember the Dr is *not* always right.

I am having a hard time trying to adjust accepting the new prosthesis leg and to do stand up/sit down exercise to build up to learning to walk, I had fears that I may never be able to drive a car is what I loved to do and scuba diving I loved to do, I spent time helping school kids to learn to dive in the pool and not so sure if I was ever even scuba dive again, and loved to long distant jog all my life. Suing for medical malpractice isn’t as easy as you think. You’d think it would be an easy malpractice lawsuit if a neurosurgeon admits to “accidentally” severing a major nerve in your back that leaves you having to be doped up on morphine, Fentanyl and oxycodone for the rest of your life, not being able to go back to work, not being able to walk without a limp, so you can forget about running, and I won’t go into all the other TMI functions that were affected by cutting that nerve. There’s no question it happened, the neurosurgeon admits he did it and immediately knew what he’d done when he did it. Heck, he didn’t even finish the rest of the surgery. Easy, right. Nope!
      The bad thing is that you need to have another medical expert testify that the doctor’s care was negligent. Good luck finding a doctor that will call out another doctor. They just won’t do it.

From the time of impact until he came home he was gone 4 months, they transported him to salt lake city to acute care rehabilitation since we live in Utah except it was 3 hours away I'd get up 4am to spend the weekend with him. When he came home we watched the movie is Heaven Real the part when they show Jesus face, my son said wow I just got the chills, he pointed at the t.v. and said that's him, I met him mom, I asked my son if he remembered who he is? He struggles with memory, he said no, I said that's Jesus. My son said he remembered his grandma, his friend Kassie was there telling him to go back and Jesus. Now it's been 11yrs, I watch my son struggle, he trusts everyone he gets in trouble with the law, he's been in jail since May last year people get him to use meth. I pray all the time for my son. I became disabled, I have tarlov cysts disease eroding the nerves and bone in my spine. I worry about my son. Take care Lord God bless all of us Amen and Amen Jesus is king hallelujah

      Barry Barry is absolutely right ! I always appreciated every single moment and ability I had.....being an ICU and ER registered nurse, I was reminded every day to NEVER take anything for granted. Then one day it happened to me: I awoke with an excruciating neck-ache ....got worse, went to ER - well after being told that my neck was full of cancer and that they would begin palliative care, that just didn't seem right - neither to me nor my husband (who's a respiratory care practitioner). Days of MRIs, multiple spinal taps, as I gradually became fully paralyzed from the neck down. Flown to a major med. center where I was diagnosed immed. with a rare condition called Transverse Myelitis...the insulation on my spinal nerves had been destroyed, so no messages getting through. Also, completely bare nerves = such terrible pain. 2 years ago, the condition necessitated a complete spinal reconstruction with steel rods from shoulders to pelvis. 9 mo.s later a rod broke and I had the rodding all over again. Then 2 leg surgeries in the last year, but over 4 years I have regained functions I was given no hope for. I have bracelet which says "Fall down 7 times, stand up 8", and that's exactly right. People tell me "I could never do what you've done", and I say "How do you know ?!" I believe that, in general, most people will do what's put before them. What else are you going to do ?? Lie down and wait to die ?
      Cameron's story showcases a young man who is beautiful inside and out. Thank you for inspiring people to treat every moment like the miracle it is......after all, the present moment is all we will ever have ! Namaste', brother.

      You are awesome! Keep up the great work! Attitude can be the hardest part, but it is truly the make or break factor. I love your bracelet. My battle has been with cancer and depression. What I'm learning is that if I'm not falling down, making mistakes, making poor decisions, shaky on my feet and uncertain... I'm just not fully engaged in life. It takes tremendous courage to be fully engaged and willing to fall down again and again and again. This guy reminds me of that and I just keep going. Thanks for your post. We'll all keep on going together!

      Our suffering is relative. What hurts for you might seem less difficult than what he went through, but it might be a
      big deal for you. It's ok to be down or sad, or doubt yourself sometimes. He admitted he'd been sad too. Sometimes, we will be overwhelmed. Having a good cry, and resting, taking care of yourself and then making a plan for when
      you are ready to get going again, is fine. Process your feelings, talk to someone if possible, and don't feel bad you

He is paying the consequences of his own irresponsibility but his mother and sister are paying for the fact that they always love him and he did not love them before the incident. He and his twin brother should have learned to love as many people do. We are not free to do what we like if it could affect our loved ones and we become a burden on them.

      @@davidg2479 substance abuse is an illness with many possible causes. You know nothing about this family's background and history and nothing about what those causes were. None of us do, but what is obvious is the enormous amount of love that exists between the surviving members. To say that the mother is 'the reason one of her sons is dead and the other is missing half his body' is a cruel and despicable statement. A 'terrible parent' would not have provided the support and encouragement that has allowed this amazing young man to not just recover from his horrendous injuries (and his substance abuse issues) but also to go on and be the best version of himself that he can be.
      You only need to look at the comments to see how many people are taking inspiration from this incredible story. I feel sorry for you that all you took from it was a chance to make an unkind, ill-informed comment. You could learn a lot from this family, or you could continue to act in an unpleasant, mean-spirited way.
      It's never too late to change. I honestly hope that you find the strength to lose your hatred and find love instead.

      @@dannydarkense5500 That supportive behavior wouldn't have done good when he and his brother were getting into drugs. Curbing drug use can't usually be stopped with nice words, but instead with tough love. Stop them from ever going outside of the house without you if need be; it's better than them dying.
      The only reason why her support works now is because he's an adult who's finally come to his senses after losing half his body.

Back then the choice you had was extremely limited as was their attitude. I helped bathe her leg when I had to wrap it then put on a stockinette to protect it from rubbing. But it hurt her anyway and preferred to stay in her wheel chair. I loved to see the modern limbs that you wear and how far they have come.
