    I wish someone who has access to all 3 size models, to demonstrate some ways of using them with both laptops and desktop setups. This discussion was great and all points are spot on. But I think it can sometimes be arguably even more useful seeing someone demonstrating various ways these tablets can be typically used. Again, great stuff Tim. Will hit the sub button.

      Can’t ever argue with a medium in practically most situations.

    IMO if you're doing a lot of line stuff get the large or somthing with an @ least A4-ish active area. Ive drawn on an old medium size for a very long time and the real crux is that you'll mostly have to rely on wrist movement and cant utilize your elbow or shouder much for strokes.
    Since I've switched to large i have to deal a lot less with overshoot because i can build up momentum and have enough space to break in time.

    Tim I love your videos and they’ve taught me so much it’s unbelievable. I would like to ask that you do a series on creating creatures. How you think through designing a new creature concept, scaling that creature to an environment, and how it interacts with said environment. I love your figure drawing tutorials but I’d love to see how you go about drawing different animals

    Small is extremely straining, medium is good up to about 24" monitors, 27"+ the ratio conversion gets too big and its better to go with a large. If you draw more with your whole arm (like a painter, rather than your wrist/fingers) a large could be preferable on 24" and below as well.
    I use my cintiq 16 as an intuos stand-in on my 27" monitor (I prefer intuos for everything but lineart), which is also a good size ratio. A work around for screen toggle can be setting one of the pen puttons to toggle in windows and then whatever unique settings you want in the apps. If you have the taskbar visible on all screens you can simply click that and then the toggle button to jump between screens, since the bar pulls focus to windows instead of the app on screen.

      Medium already feels restricting for me while using a 22" monitor. Granted, I use the Wacom Intuos comic medium 2015, and not the intuos pro medium, but both medium sized tablets have the same active drawing area. I like to animate frame by frame and only recently found out about mapping screen to tablet ratio and it improved my drawings a lot. However it made my active drawing area even smaller. So instead of working on an active area of 8.5"×5.5", i'm actually working on a 8.5"×4.8" active drawing area. Its pretty small.
      The large has a 12.24"×8.5" active area which is huge and maybe something I hope to get in the future if it ever has stock since its always out of stock in south east asia :/
      Maybe what I don't like about the large is that while the active area is reasonable for me, the actual size of the tablet is unreasonably huge 16.79"×11.19" has an extra 4 inches on the sides.

    I use a large paired with a good BenQ. One thing I do is that I have my tablet on a tablet stand with an angle allowing me to use my arm more instead of the wrist. Really helps for long work days and increases stroke confidence and control.

    I love my Wacom Cintiq, but I confess I hardly use it any longer after getting used to drawing on my iPad. There are still a few things I prefer to use the Wacom for, but I admit those are becoming more and more infrequent. If I had purchased the iPad first I'm not sure I would have ever bought a Cintiq, and that's hard to admit out loud because I'm still very loyal to Wacom, and buying my first Cintiq table was a very proud moment.

      I got my regular ipad first before getting a 22" huion display and tbh, I regret getting the latter. I got more used to drawing on an ipad esp the touch features that I can't just live without. Drawing on a display now is such a hassle. I work 5 times faster on an ipad even with that small screen. I plan on upgrading to the larger ipad pro soon. Now my huion is just gathering dust on the shelf.

      @@Madkingstow That's true. I still draw on the desk though since I need my computer for references and other stuff, but when I just want to doodle I can just easily do it on the bed and couch. It would be nice if there will be an ipad larger than 12.9 inches tho, I really prefer a larger screen. Still, I get do tons of work even on this regular ipad for 2 years now and it still works perfectly.

    ive been on a lot of trouble myself- i suffer from rsi since 2017. ive gotten thru therapy and all but i NEVER seem to be able to draw again on my screenless intuos pro medium.
    i can draw on my s7fe, on csp on a wacom one but the pen is somewhat not so responsive pressure wise.
    been wanting to buy either a display or a intuos pro large... but honestly, i dont know at this point. theres a video of me on my channel using it actually, it has an older desk thats smaller than my current one but not so different.

    I got wacom intuos pro large since 2012 and I tell ya it is unbrekable. Now ,last year I bought an ipad . Im more of a painter but I never got used to do really clean lineart on my intuos. In procreate on ipad doing clean lineart is soo fast and easy, really a bliss. Doing marks exactly as I want them makes me wonder if I should get a cintiq bcs I do need a bigger screen. But recent wacom cintiq 27 pro pricewise and just generally wont last as long as an intuos and ofc there is a bigger chance that it will break bcs its a screen 😰 Maybe should wait and see what when they upgrade their 24 inch model. Or get that now. I dont like what they did with 27 desing.

    • @TheDrawingCodex
      @TheDrawingCodex  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it’s tricky. I wish Wacom would drop the prices a bit. It’s a lot to commit to. If you can get a Cintiq 24 pro on discount that is probably the sweet spot. The non pro Cintiq 16 and 22 are good too.

    How is the surface on the modern intuos? My biggest gripe regarding my current tablet (huion) is how the surface is super smooth does the intuos a bit of "tooth" on its surface?

    • @nicksyoutubeaccount
      @nicksyoutubeaccount ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Intuos Pro tries to mimic the feel of paper. It feels nice, but it's like moving your pen over a very fine sandpaper, and that makes the plastic nibs wear down pretty quickly.
      They used to sell a smoother surface replacement for the Intuos Pro, but it has been discontinued. Only the regular and an extra rough surface sheet are still available.
      I believe the Intuos 4 and 5 also had surfaces that tried to mimic the feel of paper. The Intuos 3 however had a smooth surface, so the nibs would practically last forever.

      I think the modern Intuos surfaces and overall materials are a lot better than they used to be. Compared to the Intuos two or something like that where it really was plastic on slippery plastic… the new ones are a lot better. I use the felt tips and I tend to replace them quite a bit but the overall experience it’s really good. No idea how good the one is. Generally the more expensive products have better materials.

    • @TheDrawingCodex
      @TheDrawingCodex  ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Yeah cool. Which product of theirs exactly? They make a lot of tablets. I have been disappointed with the quality of the cheaper Wacom alternatives both in design manufacturing and drivers so far. I'd like to be able to compare some of these things one day (I get offers to review/receive different products) But my problem is that I use Wacom products all day and I'm so used to the feel and functionality that I tend to prefer them. I haven't done a review of the Huion 24 pro 4k vs the Wacom 24 pro for this reason... I am not really impartial. They are both sitting here... and all I can say is that the Wacom feels like a far superior product in every way. But I think it's important to have competition... and Wacom has been terrible in their pricing and speed of innovation recently. The quality of the cheaper alternatives is getting really good, I'd love to be able to recommend them due to the price and value... but again the reality is I always prefer the feel of the Wacom pen.
      I tend to strongly disagree with a lot of the other reviews out there on the difference in technology of Wacom vs the rest. The Wacom products seem to have better sensitivity and better pen tip and screen materials. The Stats that companies are giving out do not tell the truth in my opinion. The difference has been immediately obvious to me upon picking up the different products and trying to use them for work.
