Something to note is that in the first several months of the Crown Tundra metagame, Moltres was actually a legitimate OU mon due to being able to check a lot of the more broken mons in the tier, such as non-Electric variations of Genesect and Magearna, Cinderace, and most notably Pheromosa, while also matching up well against other threats such as Weavile and Melmetal. However, the metagame after these threats got banned got a whole lot worse for Moltres, and it ended up dropping to UU as a result.
As it stands, post-HDB Moltres has shown that it is very metagame dependent mon on whether or not it is good in OU.

What I find interesting is that atm both Fire/Flying and Electric/Flying share similar defensive niches and hence Moltres and Zapdos work sorta similarly in Gen 9 OU

Moltres is my lifesaver against those kingambit that always in the ladder. It's also a great check against enamorus.

HD boots in gen 8 was a huge help but knock off was everywhere. In gen 9 Moltres gets to keep boots on.
So not taking 50% on entering the field is a big buff to a very good Mon otherwhise

With how much I hear about stealth rock destroying a lot of two times weakness Pokémon, I would really want to see them add a new type of entry hazzards. Like a torch floor (fire) or spiky weeds (grass) or icebergs (ice) just to let flying, fire, and bug have a little bit of they don’t always have to run heavy duty boots

at this point its a catch 22 any new hazards are just going to make heavy duty boots that more necessary to the point it'll be ok every mon

Aw man. Just as Iron Mugulus gets locked down, his granddad, Old Drink (Poltchageist) pops up. Guess we'll have to get Jimothy to 50k, huh?

I think you forgot to mention how it completely walls one of the most powerful special attackers on OU right now, Enamorus

This mon is OU again from RU and it's a solid physical wall as due to volcarona's ban there is no competition for a flame body pokemon so it can punish physical attacks like kingambit , Great tusk , Dragonite and many more with burn and it can use the advantage of heavy duty boots, it can ignore stealth rocks unless it's knocked off and it is not bad on offense either it can hit decently hard with it's STABS so it's a solid mon in OU

moltres should get an ability relating to how it heals in magma. like taking damage triggers roost to recover after rocks. or if flare blitz heals instead of recoiling

2:22 Another factor that harms Gen 1 Fire-types is that the ONLY way to thaw out a frozen Pokemon is through being hit by a move that can burn - and only Fire moves (apart from Fire Spin) can do that. Since being frozen is essentially a luck-based KO here, no-one would ever want to _help_ their opponent thaw out, and thus no-one uses Fire moves in Gen 1.
It doesn't help that Fire doesn't have any useful targets, since Bugs are pathetically weak and Grass is already hit hard by Ice moves (and, since most Grass-types have the Poison typing too, by Psychic as well); Steel doesn't exist yet, and Ice-types are already mostly weak to Electric (Water/Ice), hit hard by special blows (Cloyster), or bulldozed through by Tauros (Jynx).
