    Press Quarters Coverage gives your team an aggressive run stopping coverage behind any defensive front. By adding press corners you're limiting the number of routes you see and giving a look most High School receivers are not used to seeing. I'll tell you the advantages of Press Quarters, and draw up several route concepts to show how Press Quarters Coverage defends against them.

    Excellent video. Coach did a nice job presenting. We play a lot of quarters vs 2x2 with similar concepts. Good stuff

    Enjoyed the video and podcast...I coach safeties at a 6-A high school in Texas...lol ya...that's definitely a 7 on 7 staple.
    We like this vs 12 personnel in the 3-4 as well.

      Thanks coach! I bet that Texas 7 on 7 gets beyond ridiculously competitive

    Are Safeties always the primary force? Do the outside linebackers ever become primary force? I've only seen some of the clips from the Michigan State/Pat Narduzzi videos, so thanks for going in depth on this, Coach.

      Yes, Safeties are primary force. In our Alert check (check out the Quarters Coverage link in the description), which is basically 2-Read, we did use the OLBs for force.

    Great video Coach, my only question is, what is the corner doing when he has a slant? Is he passing it off or is he running with it and the Safety is robbing it?

    • @Joe4372
      @Joe4372  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pass off the slant to the OLB, it breaks under 5 yards. Not deep enough to rob. Sink and make the CHINA call. The flat route by #2 should get thrown and that's your weakness in this coverage. If they're going to run a lot of it you should have another check.

    Hey coach, today we went over motion and empty. We notice that we struggle vs empty. Specially when the empty back ran straight down the middle. So double smash and back down the middle of the field from empty set.

      Is this 7 on 7? That's one of those routes you only see when you can actually protect it. We'd bring 6, play Cover 0, and see if you can get the pass off in a live game. In 7 on 7 you'd run 1/4, 1/4, 1/2 so the free safety can still play the vertical by #3.

    Sam backer is in tough position being inside c gap to cover flat and wheel, there needs to be a seven tech. So Sam has outside leverage so he can cover field side flat and easily turn up for a wheel , also he is great position to force with FS coming down hard in alley on run read , if two removed just play read two , hammer time

    Coach, what drills did you have that help your safeties keep their eyes on their man and not reading the QB. Jut had a 7 on 7 and our safeties were terrible at that!

    • @Joe4372
      @Joe4372  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I teach an umbrella drill in our 4-2-5 defense system, it's what our safeties do all day. They read QB for 3-step drop then their eyes shift to the receiver

    Would you feel comfortable making the End/OLB a spill player and spilling the ball to a safety at a depth of nine yards, or would you make that End/OLB a contain player?

    • @Joe4372
      @Joe4372  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Safety is the force player in this style of Quarters coverage. I would never force with the Defensive End, personally. Not in my base defense, anyway.

    Quick question coach, if the wr runs a post, is the WRs locking on to him because it's a vertical? So the near Safety can just rob that post?

    • @Joe4372
      @Joe4372  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Corner locks because the post is a vertical, yes. Assuming #2 runs an out then Safety will intersect the post and give you 2 on 1 there.

    Why would the SS end up inside on the corner route if his initial alignment was 9x2? How do you expect the corner to be in a man press alignment flip get his eyes back on the qb and get under the 7 route. That’s illogical

    • @Joe4372
      @Joe4372  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The route usually breaks underneath him if he's staying over top. The corner is playing by feel, he works on releasing a short route. When he feels it break short he's just sinking.

    You are more susceptible to give up big plays by absorbing the receivers release and not throwing off the timing. The entire point of aligning in press is to disrupt timing. If the corners aren’t going to be disruptive you might as well have them play off
