one tip if you want to get a bit of a different taste to the cake is to put some coffee in the frosting and then put coconut flakes on top instead of nuts. It's a classic Swedish recipe called "kärleksmums"
I always prefer my chocolate cakes to have a shot of espresso and top them with coconut flakes because I think pairing chocolate with coconut is the best flavour combination. Btw, I think Swedes make the best sweets and bullar. Bra job sverige!
Yes, because nothing says Swedish like coconuts ??? They have great forests of coconut trees in Sweden (LOL). We already have a classic American cake like this. When you add coconut and pecans a carmel frosting, it becomes a "German chocolate cake." --But the recipe is not German at all. It first appeared in the US about 160 years ago and was named after a man named "Samuel German."
We love this cake at our house. Not need to setting out eggs and butter to room temperature. No need to fire up the mixer. And my kiddos just love the frosting, with sprinkles instead of pecans of course. (I “accidentally” put pecans on half the cake, so there is always some for me after they’ve devoured theirs.) It’s super fast. Even my two year old can help. We love this cake and keep coming back to watch it. My kids love watching the video as we make it
This is my go-to cake for family events. The recipe I have is similar but uses more cocoa and no cinnamon. It's baked in a sheet pan so the frosting recipe makes a bit more to cover the whole cake.
We always brown the butters before adding the cocoa 😊 even the HEB box mix for it have you brown it. Definitely give a try next time. I promise you won’t regret it! ❤️
Yes, this video has been uploaded before; however, new viewers need to see this! It's my go-to chocolate cake when I'm in a rush, delicious and so easy
Wanda N. Hey wanda since you've made this before. Di you think this recipe can be used for a layer cake . Like i divide the batter it into two moulds . Refrigerate and the frost it?
I'm going to try this recipe but I need a smaller cake. So I'll cut all ingredient amounts in half, it should still turn out fine. Thanks for sharing or re-sharing this recipe. 🙂
Looks delicious!! Is a “how to ceviche” video too simple? I looooove ceviche in the summer but I can’t seem to get my ingredients and flavors down. Would love some assistance.
If you're fancy, use coconut flakes. If not, I've always loved multicolored sprinkles. My mom always made sheet cake on my birthday and it was always a hit because it looked so fun.
I was thinking along the same lines with regards to nut allergies. I think I will melt ⅔ cup of white chocolate chips, when cooled a bit I'll pipe or drizzle straight lines across the cake. Then I'll lightly drag a butter knife in the opposite direction to create a 'shadow' or zigzag effect. The white chocolate design should turn out really pretty against the chocolate frosting.
Josie Garcia-Vaca da Rosa Yes or you can use vinegar! Let it sit for 5 mins or until you combine your ingredients. I do this all of the time because regular buttermilk comes in such a large bottle.
AdamPaulStone That's a good idea. No sour cream here either though but, I do Greek yogurt with lemon for my sour cream substitute. I found cream fresh about a year and half ago but they haven't restocked unfortunately.
love her persona and cooking style. I don't agree with the cinnamon and would use a tablespoon of espresso or instant coffee instead and a dash of chocolate extract along with the vanilla.....bombdiggity in any case. Keep up the great work!
Technically that is correct. This is not a sheet cake, as they are much larger. But the term is used loosely to refer to any cake that is only one layer.
Who the hell edited that? I feel like I'm watching some quick cut action recipe. Please pull back and let Sarah do her thing. No need to zoom in and out so much. It's distracting.

Astrid Eklöf sounds delicious!!!! 🇲🇽

It's so good almost like the Finnish Mokkapala
Yeah, we swedes are not bad at making tasty things!

Thanks, Sarah. This is my all time favorite cake. With a glass of ice cold milk it's a little bit of heaven. It's great with ice cream.
Wow that frosting is so much easier than waiting for butter to soften!!!!
It's a repeat. I am thankful. Thanks Sarah. Enjoy your holiday. You deserve some days off. Great recipe.
Ive made this cake many times. To me its a no fail recipe & a chocolate lovers dream

YoMama2005 In the cake batter mixture? Or the frosting mixture? Or both?
Chocolate and pecans ate a match made in heaven! Thanks for the recipe. 💜
I like the new way of video editing and the focus of the camera.
OMG.... .Now I'll be CRAVING cake all day. Never knew of Texas Sheet Cake until I saw one made on Joey Fatone's food show.
made it last night. it was tasty! my favorite part was the frosting
Never be more than 12 steps away from chocolate🎈 yum!!
What is the different between the backing soda and the backing powder ?? Wich one should I use usually when I make a cake?
could i use this sheet cake along with the chocolate ganache frosting used in your vanilla sheet cake?
Thank you for pronouncing Pecan correctly :D --- My grandmothers use to make a cake almost identical to this.
I only subscribed to this channel for Sarah. I only watch Sarah's videos. She is amazing.
I Dont like chocolate cake but this recipe looks awesome. How can I do a full vanillla version??
May I know, which brand you use for cocoa powder? It looks deep dark, so beautiful.
Sarah you seem happier these days! That cake looks amazing btw!
Julie L this is an old video
Bookworm'sGuidetoLife
How do you know? I've never seen it before...
Julie L because I saved this recipe in a playlist to make it later, I remember it looked delicious
Bookworm'sGuidetoLife
Re-uploads? I'm shocked! Not really though...Thanks for the answer ;)
Can this recipe be used for layered cakes
This looked dope. I'm gonna try this next month.
Can I divide this recipe in half to make smaller piece?
Oh God, I'm fasting and it just made me so hungry 😭😭😭🤤🤤
Easy measurements and ratio!

I MUST MAKE THIS!
Is it just me or hasnt this video been uploaded years ago? Deja-vu 😉
Be La I thought so too, but I am not sure...
I'm going to try this recipe but I need a smaller cake. So I'll cut all ingredient amounts in half, it should still turn out fine. Thanks for sharing or re-sharing this recipe. 🙂
If you cut it in half it should fit nicely into a 9" round pan ;) (14 cup 9" x13", 8 cup 9" round)
Hi sarah! Love from the Philippines🇵🇭
Sarah you need your own food network channel!!!!!
No sheet pan?
That's a vintage cake recipe. I have the recipe in a cook book called vintage and icebox cakes book. I made it three years ago once.
LOVE your hair
haven't u upload this video before??
Olivia Rizk same thought, actually I made this cake and it was delicious
Olivia Rizk it may have gotten deleted and they re-uploaded it
Looks delicious!! Is a “how to ceviche” video too simple? I looooove ceviche in the summer but I can’t seem to get my ingredients and flavors down. Would love some assistance.
Being from texas all my life, i have never heard of this. Nonetheless it looks great 👍.
Omg it looks amazing!!
One of the recipes calls for a 10×15 pan (jely roll)
In case, I had people who were allergic to nuts. What could I replace the pecans with.
BriNguyen just omit them 😊
Coconut flakes go well with cocoa.

My mom makes this, but we rarely have buttermilk on hand, so she uses a recipe that uses regular milk and vinegar.
I've used plain yogurt.
Who even disliked ...this is so😍😍😍
I haven't seen buttermilk where I live. Can I just use regular milk as a substitute or should I do the a cup of milk with tbsp of lemon? Thanks!
Josie Garcia-Vaca da Rosa Yes or you can use vinegar! Let it sit for 5 mins or until you combine your ingredients. I do this all of the time because regular buttermilk comes in such a large bottle.
You can also use sour cream
courtland622 thanks!

Josie Garcia-Vaca da Rosa it looks ke you already know your choices...lol.
Can I use milk instead of heavy cream?
The result won't be as rich or thick. Very runny consistency.
Lady Rozerin yes you can, that’s the way I make it. If it’s a little too thin you can add a few extra tablespoons of powdered sugar to thicken it.
Belinda Everman thank you
helpfulnatural thanks
WOW!!!!
I tried it and everybody loved it... Except it's a bit too sweet, next time I 'll use only one cup sugar. Great easy recipe
2 cups flour with 2 cups sugar is a lot sugar
When I make this cake, I cut the sugar by 25%. I use only 1 1/2 cups of sugar. It works and the cake is still sweet enough.
Wow, only needs a cup of coffee.
Claudia Makes Fish o I just have had enough of u Claudia
Umaan Tariq por que
I was thinking cold milk !! But maybe I'm just weird.
you can't do this to us... I want that cake right now 😭
love her persona and cooking style. I don't agree with the cinnamon and would use a tablespoon of espresso or instant coffee instead and a dash of chocolate extract along with the vanilla.....bombdiggity in any case. Keep up the great work!
i am drooling - how embarrassing i announced it
Wow no raising agent?
You already uploaded this video last year I believe
Someone disliked this video??? Where there's chocolate cake there's NO room for hate. CASE CLOSED.
Wait a second, this recipe was already up. How did you get it to show as new yesterday? Did you delete it and re-upload it? Why?
I remember that a Texas Sheet Cake is made in a half sheet pan, not a 9 x 13, but I guess to each their own....
This very unusual cake. No baking powder, eggs is added at the end. No foaming, no creaming.
Is that a mud cake?
I love a good Sarah Carey video, but I miss Lindsey Strand when are we getting a new sweet talk video?
She's like real life Molly Weasley!
Who the hell dislike chocolate
May I request that your recipes include measurements in grams, please? That way, the results will be perfect every time.
kiltlvr I have made this cake MANY times while measuring in cups and it is perfect every time. Get a set of standard measuring cups.
It wouldn't be a "TEXAS sheet cake" if you use a scale. As true Americans, Texans are phobic of the metric system. ;-)
RD M OMG so true! I'm old enough to remember when the gov't first started to try the metric system in the 70's. Such a blowback they gave up.
That's not a shhet cake, it's a cake in a 9x13 pan.
Technically that is correct. This is not a sheet cake, as they are much larger. But the term is used loosely to refer to any cake that is only one layer.

I don't like everyday food camera angle now...Sarah seem hard to cook too
Am I going crazy or did you cut your hair honey🎈
great stuff
