Neal Schon's "Journey Through Time" is a live concert recorded on February 9, 2018 at The Independent In San Francisco, CA, on May 19, 2023. This is the show where Neal Schon, founding member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inducted band Journey, first debuted "Journey Through Time" along with two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and former Journey and Santana bandmate, Gregg Rolie. Performing to a sold out crowd for a benefit show to raise money for victims of the fires that had ravaged the North Bay area of the San Francisco region in October 2017, the band played songs spanning Journey’s entire catalog, largely focusing on the band’s '70s repertoire, including the band's first three albums, "Journey", "Look Into The Future", and “Next”.

Man Dean can SING! Great voice! And Neal's solo! Still a killer song!
Yeah once he got that monkey off his back. Dean is the man.
Just received this bluray from Amazon a few days ago and very STOKED to watch it over the weekend! Deen's a MONSTER both on drums and vocally!
Beautiful. Gregg back in the game, sounding amazing. Neil slaying it - as always. The drummer deserves double-pay for that great vocal! Thank you to who captured this moment and posted it.
Deen.......there are no words.
I remember so well..greg rolie fantastic
Fantastic! For almost 4 minutes, I traveled back 44 years, and felt 19 again. Deen Castronovo absolutely nails Steve Perry’s unmistakable vocals. Unbelievable.
Oh how Gregg's voice on this song and Neal's guitar harmoniously bring back fond summer memories!
What a great drummer, great voice
Journey in the early years holds a special place in my heart; different beast but damn they sure knocked them out. The (then) vocal share between Steve and Gregg worked like magic and Deen does a great job in sharing this 2018 vocal duties with Gregg. The songlist is a truely great and can't wait to finally hear the whole show.
definetly steve and gregg !
Probably my all-time favorite Journey song.
Great to see Greg back on the vocals.
Such a great song.. was this song that that introduced steve perry to the band for me. Brought the 2 great voices together and passed the touch to steve and he ran with it. Still sounds good Gregg, would be great to have steve back for a show.
I’m probably stating the obvious, but this sounds light years better than the current version of journey. This is journey.
I couldn't agree with you more!!😊
Deen is perfect! Drummer/ singer and nails every vocal!❤️❤️❤️
Yeah, he's something. When he's not beating and threatening women I guess he manages to find time to play drums in that spare time.
@@WizardofgoszTry living in the present. Also try reading the entire legal process and not just the sensationalized headlines when he was first arrested. Don’t be one of those typical headline readers. Be better than that.
@@PeachWNK please let me know where I was wrong.
@@PeachWNK "court records show that Dean pleaded guilty to two counts of fourth degree domestic violence assault, two counts of domestic violence menacing, one count of unlawful use of a weapon, and one count of coercion."
Sounds like a real fucking stand-up guy.
@@Wizardofgosz Most of those charges are misdemeanors, and *all* are non-contact charges. So when you say beating, you’re wrong. The full court records are there for anyone to read. I’ve read them. As a woman, it matters to me. He’s paid the price, and he’s back with his fiancé (now wife.)
Maybe you can listen to Aynsley Dunbar instead. Oh wait. He’s a convicted sex offender and on the registry in Nevada. I think you should care more about that.
Love You Greg. Deen You're the best
Deen is an incredibly talented musician. Get this version of Journey out on the road!
Simply amazing
Deen killing it and Neal overplaying just like ALWAYS!!!
I love Journey! The best ever!
What a great team and band for this show! It's rocking!
Its cool to see Neal enjoying himself. No band bullshit just the music
Excellent!
Neal Schon is so good!! I really love his playing.
He actually did most lead parts for Santana years ago and not so much Carlos.
This is journey enough said ❤
The recent drama surrounding the current version of Journey has really soured my desire to follow them, but....I have to say, this is refreshing to see and hear. It's worth buying . What a great night it must have been to be there.
Dean is totally awesome singing and drumming wow!!!! Should be the front singer
If Castrono had been playing in 1979, Journey would have been a Quartet!
The world is a circle. This sounds to me where I began to listen to the band. Forget progression, fame and fortune and everything that came after. This sounds organic and real
AWESOME🙏❤😁 MY FAVORITE JOURNEY SONG❤
I love deen on vocals k i play bass the man is talented they need to bring this as a tour on the road neal is just incredible on the 🎸 signature beautiful sound you just know its him and its a great band w a great song !what a phenominal performance it was "phenom"
Danger sounds great.. and of course Neil .. well what can we say.. drummer pulled it off amazingly
Deen Castronovo...you are THE MAN!
So inspiring!! Can’t wait to get my music done to send to this amazing label 😊😊😊
Still a great voice with a lot of passion
One of the best drummers
That sounded great.
Everyone buried in their phone to post on social media instead of being in the moment of great musicians, look at me I’m at the show!
Amazing!
MOW THAT WAS JOURNEY!!!
Perfection
PHENOMENALLY DONE 🏹❤️🩹🏹💨💨
So good to see these guys still doing shows and epic Journey songs!!👏❤ sounding great!!❤
Keep Deen on vocals! Hes incredible!
Man this sounds great!
Killer! No idea why this hit doesn't make the regular journey set list
Because Gregg isn't with regular Journey.
@@Diostillrocks They've done it a time or two with Jonathan doing Gregg's part and it was pretty good. They should always do it it's a bonafide classic
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
This was funny for me. I was so expecting someone just singing that I was looking for where the other vocal was coming from. Finally got it.
Me too-never occurred to me to look at the percussionist as the source of vocals…he sounds fantastic!!
I think I would rather see this band than Journey.
👌
Dean's voice is outstanding enough for him to take centre stage as lead vox tbh.
Check out his band, Revolution Saints. Good stuff.
This also reminds me of Love Hurts 😢
Neal did a lot of famous licks for Santana.
Yea so did Greg
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Gregg Rollie Get these guys back
Deen should be Journey's lead vocalist. He's so much like Steve Perry it's uncanny. Find another drummer and stick him out front.
I agree, but Deen isn’t really that comfortable out in front.
Great singer but not a front man.
Deen was offered the frontman position after Steve Augeri left, but he turned it down cause he preferred to be behind the kit.
@@luisalonsoecheverria He’d been arrested for beating up his wife! Most posters here see 1 concert ( more like a jam session ) and think these guys could lead disciplined scripted lives every single night! Some are only onstage for the limelight, girls,EGO! Neal hid his shenanigans, his 5 wives by fixing attention on others. Yet he ‘loves’ these guys yrs later- when he needs them, to look like the good guy, the talent, draw on fan’s nostalgia, and, treat AP, after 10 plus years, like a has-been, a cheerleader, doing back vocals! Shameful Neal!
What is THIS years ago
Deen and Gregg are every bit as good of a vocal duo as Gregg and Perry were.
haha...you are TONE DEAF...
@@MrMustard2Uhaha… you are bitter.
@@PeachWNK no just not tone deaf like you apparently are... Dean....HAHAHA...
Well bit of a stretch there but Deen does a fantastic job. There’s no replacing Perry but that was a long long time ago. Get Steve Smith back on drums and put Deen up front.
@@kingtrance307 I don’t think you could force him up front. ☺️
Drummer sounds just like Steve Perry
Good god deen
If Arnel's vocals gets wore out. Deen could become the next vocalist. Jason Derlatka has a good voice as well.
Dean sounds a lot like Steve.
At first I was surprised that Arnel played drums.
As someone who wasn't even born yet when the OG pre-Perry Journey was performing, I was sad they never actually went on tour through my state. I really wanted to hear some of these songs live in concert.
Deen is so great..Read the comments..
Actually sounds more like the classic Journey with Greg and Dean on Voc than the current touting Journey . -and better .
Journey’s new formation?
No, just a little thing Neal did back in 2019 while the band was on a break
This the real Journey, not the band that’s currently touring. And no infighting in this band. Please bring back JTT again.
Never the real Journey-every one of these guys Neal fired!
All generation love the current Journey! 16 years of concert tour around the world, sold out, no dull moment, we leave the venue with a happy smile. They are amazing, remarkable. If they fired, good luck to the new replacement, hope they hits the 3 to 4 concert a week with thousands of crowds in the big arena
@@pamlatham7032 Neal didn’t fire Gregg
Neil is a the problem, Now it is with Arnel. He need to thank Steve and Arnel for keeping him popular.
Y'all do know that's Gregg Rollie
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
gregg rolle...omg
Deen does a better Steve Perry than Arnel! Greg Rollie, timeless!!!
Where is Arnel Pineda sir
There is an explanation about this below. Neal has a long history working with Deen and Gregg. He’s been working with Deen since 1987 and, of course, started Journey with Gregg.
He's back at the Karaoke bar where he belongs.
Deen Castronovo is better that Arnel Pineda
By leaps and bounds.
HSAS
Jonathan perry the journe being great b cos of dis two people
Dean was doing a great job in Generation Radio then..poof gone.
It's either the full Journey band, or it's not.
Gregg Rollie in the house. Where's the Steve Perry wanna be?
Well it’s not Journey, it’s Journey Through Time
True. I like this song. It's pretty close to the original. Great sound. Does Neal need the money that bad to do those a piece of Journey shows? I guess he does fighting with Johnathan Cain over a American Express bill. Oh well the old days are gone. Even great guitarist like Neal realize it's a perishable trade.
@@joeteague5371 well they just did a few shows and JTT is currently not a thing anymore.I think Neal just wanted to play Journey songs that Journey doesn’t play much anymore
Honesty I like this group of guys far better than the other line up. Great sound.
Faltó Steve Perry haciendo el coro 😅
Yeah GREGG!! ❤
Steve Perry was a f****** best
The drummer got fired for beating up his wife shortly after this.
Nope not true, that was before this, he was all cleaned up at this point and him and his wife are good, I was there and his wife was on the side of the stage taking pictures
@@jamesburrowes3552 Then why did he get fired from Journey ?
@@lukebandy516 For the reason you stated, all I said was that was before JTT, he was arrested in 2015 and that's when Neal let him go, he got cleaned up, Neal called him for this short little project in 2018, 2919, then when the whole mess of getting rid of Steve Smith and Ross Valory happened Neal asked him back to Journey and Deen has been killing it night after night.
@@jamesburrowes3552 Cleaned up from what ?
@@lukebandy516 he had a bit of a substance abuse issue which he admitted to in an interview years ago, he got clean and has been great since in my opinion, drumming and singing his ass off.
I like this lineup better than the current Journey lineup in fact as far away from Jon Cain the better!
I didn’t know Kevin Neelon played bass. 😂
That’s the closest thing to Journey that I’ve seen in a long time.
Hmmm, eh.
Maybe my favorite Journey song. Loved the live version from the Captured era- the Live in Huston concert that played on the radio especially. (That concert is also on youtube)
@@keigum Live in Houston- best ever! Remember, “ Live” means the real unmixed sounds- no help, no auto tune on Perry’s voice either! Pure Perry! Doesn’t get any better!
@@pamlatham7032There is no autotune on Deen either.
Only 328 subscribers! Some people don't believe in Kharma! Kharma ALWAYS wins! Sometimes it can come down to an entire lifetime to learn
Deen needs a teleprompter for the lyrics and they're all using more hair dye than your average 50 year old chic.
They still sound good though, so kudos to them for that.
They had four days to rehearse… that should explain the teleprompter.
Why Arnel not included?.🤣 I think Arnel must leave Journey now ..
This is a different entity, one that needn't be bound by the confines and limitations of being a huge band that has to deliver only the hits. This is more for hardcore fans of the band that want to hear the deep cuts as well, and it's for the happiness and satisfaction of Schon who wrote these. This is the best of both worlds I feel, where if you want 'Journey' you have Arnel, and if you want deep cuts and b-sides and a few old friends/members, you have them. Frankly I'd love for this to be a recording entity! As for your views on Arnel leaving the band, that is for them to figure out.
This is from 2018. It was a side project of Neal’s, and I think Manik explained it well. Neal has a long relationship with Gregg and Deen.
Neal and Deen have done a bunch of things together outside of Journey proper. This isn't to exclude Arnel (or Cain for that matter), it's just something different. This project has a huge appeal to many of the early Journey fans, but it isn't moving Journey forward without the current band. It is looking back at some really cool stuff.
@@bobjose5855 Exactly. Neal and Deen have known each other since 1987!
They sound amazing. Deen fills Steve's voice on point.
If this is what Journey has become then what a shame.
better than Journey
Castronova Steals the set!
They slow the tempo down .
Steve perry is real journey not neal its just a guitaris
Neal Schon IS Journey. He founded the band, and Perry came along later.
Deen sings every bit as well as Perry.
The band in this video is not "Journey" anyway.
@@gigit1111 Yes, I know Dunbar was the original drummer. When most people think of Journey's drummers, Steve Smith is the one who comes to mind.
Journey is good if perry or arnel is the front man
Drummer needs a teleprompter? What a clown.👎👎
I love journey without Steve Perry. He sucks.
Greg Rollie is an old vocalist. Doesn't sound good as when he was young though he's a better company to the rest of the ageing Journey members. They're really a match. That's why AP should leave.
not as exciting as Arnel's singng.
A matter of preference. It’s like the people who prefer Disneyland to Disney World. But it’s more like the original.
But easily the better voice by a lot.
Honestly, not such a great song.
Honestly, such a moronic comment.
I guess to each his own... a matter of preference or taste. I love this song!!
@@f20zlk2000 Same!! The whole set is great!
Better than Open Arms and Faithfully
@@keithrodgers6634 Open Arms is my least favorite Journey song.
