🙌 Music is, unfortunately, not what it used to be. The talent of writer musicians is still out there, but that's not what the industry showcases or pays for anymore. It's tragic. 😞
The even more amazing thing is that during the 2018/19 tours, his voice improved/repaired in some magical miracle, and he sang it even better! Townsend remarked in interviews on this vocal revival, but I had seen them already in SF before I heard this, and was simply blown away.
Oh. it's because not only Rog is using his body as an apparatus. He uses his mind and soul as well. It's a well godly designed set... And band... And this is not "just some song".
Have to give Pete big applause here. He wrote this, as he did everything Roger sang. Great front man, with a great voice, but the passion originated with Pete in this masterpiece.
@@redskywalker3374 Pete isn’t deaf. He has lost partial hearing and has severe tinnitus, if he plays too long or too often his tinnitus starts bugging him.
On live shows they play Quadrophenia before this song. During this instrumental song Roger takes a break and drinks some tea to be ready to sing Love Reign O'er Me. Saw them live in 2017 and man, Roger still kick ass
Roger draws in the God energy and delivers another superior performance. With the love of God and one's soul, all things are possible! LOVE.....Reign O'er Me!
I know Townsend definitely gets his due as a songwriter, but damn he doesn't get near as much credit for his guitar chops as he should. They flat out rocked this song here.
There's not much can be said about this song. It has everything. That they can perform it like that in 2018 is just unparalleled. Roger's voice should be inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame on its own. Of all the great instruments, it is up there with the very best.
I would spend my last dime (and I have in the past) to see The Who. They are so moving! The combination of Daltry and Townshend is brilliant - and add Entwhistle and Moon - OMG. I first saw them at the Monterey Pop Festival live in 1967. I never miss them. They completely take over my emotions.
Roger Daltry born in 1944 in 2015 he was 71. I first heard the Who whenMy Generation came out in 1965. Got to see them live in the 60's with Keith Moon. they were awesome.
when you're a true artist you keep your instrument, your body, in good shape for as long as possible. 5:30 absolutely blew me away, thank you Roger, for your devotion to your instrument!
A classic example of how using one’s diaphragm instead of throat to sing means, no, no this man is a legend to be able to still sing this song at the wonderful age he is.
Every single time I hear this song wether it’s live or on the album it gives me chills. The hairs on my neck stand up and I feel an overwhelming emotion that makes me want to cry and I have absolutely no idea why it affects me this way. It must be the haunting melody , the images in conjures in my mind of a rain soaked beach where Jimmy stands at the end of his tether. This song is pure emotion put into melody and belted out by a rock legend who can still hit those notes at 70+ . What a band..what a song
It has always seemed to me logical that the musicians of any generation will be no less talented than previous ones. And at 65 years old I still believe that. I still find new music that I think is stunningly good. I loved a comment by a DJ many years ago when he played an old record from decades earlier and said 'Those days were magic, but so is today, it's just a different magic' I hope that today's generation love their music as much as we older ones do, and that it's magic for them. There is still great music being made. But having said that, this really is magic.........
Oh yeah If you listen with an open mind, and not expect things to sound the same as previously (though you do here influences) there is wonderful music (some years more others) being made every year! This song, and this band remains one of the top ever, as well.
I agree with there still being excellent music nowadays. However, if you prefer older music there is absolutely nothing like it out today. That’s the sad part. I’m so tired of hearing rap and sex pop on the radio. For the record, I’m 21 so I’m not just being nostalgic. I genuinely believe music peaked in 60’s-70’s and stayed strong until the 90’s. After that, there is plenty of good music but nothing that lives up to the classics in my opinion.
I’m 53 and have seen concerts since the 70’s and I must admit this is the greatest performance of all time(with Bruce Springsteen coming in a close 2nd with Jungleland). Daltery and Townsend being the best ever in their 70’s. Amazing !! Fucking Amazing!!!
Every time I hear Roger sing this SONG… it goes right through me!!! It’s So Damn Powerful and Beautiful! Brings tears to my eyes!! This Must be a extremely hard song to sing!! He gets right through the Body!! & He’s still doing IT..! Extraordinary ! Thx you Roger!! No one else can or should even try to sing this song!!!! I’m going to say the every same thing about BEHIND BLUE EYES!!!! Unbelievable Fantastic Roger! ❤❤❤
Loved being ther....especially to share the moment with my son then at the last minute my daughter joined us from Manchester.....a night I will never forget to see the best live act ever imo...fucking epic!
Sitting in the hellscape that is Houston, TX - August 2023, the night is indeed hot and black as ink, and I can't sleep and I can't think, and lord I do need a drink of cool cool rain. This amazing performance is the next best thing.❤
even in their rock years, they were still rock mods, and mods they will always be... Ringo's boy's a good Moon... so was Kenny.. the Who appreciate the value of having the world's best drummers in the band... Quadrophenia 1973 features the best drumming I've ever heard
Saw them at the Grand Prix here in Melbourne in 2009 and they were louder than the F1 cars it was absolutely incredible and Roger was happy with his cup of tea.Never forget that night
Amazing. Try to listen to this and not feel nostalgic, happy, sad, inspired, moved, awestruck all at the same time. I do miss Keith Moon's epic final drumming, but Zak does an amazing job. Keep rocking guys.
Saw them just 2 months ago and wow... Just wow. Roger screamed twice; once for Won't Get Fooled Again and again for Love Reign O'er Me. I got chills both times
After seeing so many older singers who quite understandably have to make accommodations in how they deliver their classics, it's amazing to hear someone who can just laugh at that.
If you're ever feeling low, take a walk on a beach/anywhere in the open and crank this up on your headphones. It goes through your soul and will lift you back up.
First time I saw them was in 89 at the Vet in Philly. Nothing like 50 thousand people singing every word to every song. Kenny Jones from the Faces was drumming for them back then. I never had a concert give me goose bumps the whole entire show. Still isnt any group or concert that has done that since.
One of my all time favorite songs & bands. To look at them now, seeming to be so healthy at their ages blows me away. And Daltry's voice? Unbelievable! Truly talented, and an amazing performance.. ❤️
Just saw them in St L. Amazing!! Not sure how he does it but Roger Daltrey sounds like he always did! I was in the front row at Busch stadium years ago and the concert last week was every bit as good if not better than then! All I can say is WOW!
The Who Seen them when they started and now as they do there swan song as they will all be gone. The music is still really as Great a classic Act. Big Shoes to fill .
Roger is a physical marvel. Wailing like this at age 71 is unbelievable.
@@dashriprock8596 i think he never been in drugs much
Keith's looking down and beaming at Zak and proud of how he's filled his shoes.
Zak definitely brings it like Keith did
And dont forget Zak’s father Ringo….Im sure hes proud of his son…:-)
ALL I CAN SAY IT GOOSEBUMPS!!!!!!
These legends at their age are superior to anything today.
🙌 Music is, unfortunately, not what it used to be. The talent of writer musicians is still out there, but that's not what the industry showcases or pays for anymore. It's tragic. 😞
I was expecting him to deliver a good performance "for a 70 year old". But actually he fucking nailed it by any standards!
Roger is awesome and living proof, with love and singing about it, anything is possible.
Not a clue how he can still sing this, but I'm glad he can!
Okay yeah Roger Daltrey
The even more amazing thing is that during the 2018/19 tours, his voice improved/repaired in some magical miracle, and he sang it even better! Townsend remarked in interviews on this vocal revival, but I had seen them already in SF before I heard this, and was simply blown away.
Yet he does. Always the amazing voice.
Oh. it's because not only Rog is using his body as an apparatus. He uses his mind and soul as well. It's a well godly designed set... And band... And this is not "just some song".
One of the few of lead singers who didn’t really lose his voice. When you think of Plant and specially Ian Gillan. They can’t do it.
One of the most powerful songs by The Who. Daltrey gives his all in this performance!
Truly a Roger showcase... screams of his immense talent !!
Have to give Pete big applause here. He wrote this, as he did everything Roger sang. Great front man, with a great voice, but the passion originated with Pete in this masterpiece.
These guys are hitting almost 80 years and - look slim, and hit hard with chords and emotion! And that huge voice of mr. Daltrey! Freaking chills!
He was better in the day, but 4%. Still worthwhile
Yes! Damnnnn! I never want them to stop or leave us!!!!❤❤❤❤
It seems I'm the only one left that plays this, kind of cool though. My kids like this as well
The Piano intro - the guy threw in some Debussy! That was a Surprise!
I love John Corey. He put his all into that intro, and it's different every time.
Greatest rock band of all time. One of my favourite songs of all time.
Still one of THE BEST BANDS EVER in human history, period. Daltrey explaining at 71 ;)!
Well actually, i've heard Daltrey "can't explain" ;)
Without a doubt! ❤❤❤❤
Love that look Pete gives Roger at the end when waiting to give the final strum. You can just see the love they still have for the music
Right? I loved that too, beautiful man!
Magic
I thought Pete was 1oo percent deaf ..how can he do so well ?
@@redskywalker3374 Pete isn’t deaf. He has lost partial hearing and has severe tinnitus, if he plays too long or too often his tinnitus starts bugging him.
so good to see bands that want to play and smile
They sang my generation in the 60's ,they have still got it. Rip keith and john
My god we had a sound track for life from boy to man, thank you The Who, The Stones, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, etc. Love you all! 😘
It was a thrill being at this concert.
I'm so envious!!! I saw them in Ottawa about ten years ago, amazing...
The thrill was being from the States, and getting to see them on their home turf for the first time.
@@qdog568 I bet that was fun and amazing.
I saw them in San Jose, California in October last year. It was amazing!
These two original members of The Who just age like good wine 🍷
RIP John E. 🎸and Keith M. 🥁 💔
John E. & Keith M. Defintely would proud of this rendition..
Shows the balls of Daltrey to still sing this song at 70+. Most 20 something's cant sing this song.
big ones

They just can't free that burning love.

I'm gonna be honest, hearing that scream brought me to tears and I have no idea why.
Me too. It must be tears of joy.
These Men are real heroes. I am still crying...
Rain on me best song ever roger still got it
By the power of God 🙏 he does it now 80 and sings even better! Just had a concert in Ravinia Chicago

Peter has this wonderful mix of rhythm, and lead playing! Love it.
I think that without John and Keith, Pete has to do WAY more with the guitar.
There's not much can be said about this song. It has everything. That they can perform it like that in 2018 is just unparalleled. Roger's voice should be inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame on its own. Of all the great instruments, it is up there with the very best.

5:29 Tremendous roar by Roger...
And if you look Roger has lubricated his throat generously to protect against the oncoming roar, spits it all out in a cloud of spray
The greatest scream in rock. Goose bumps every time.
