As a Mercedes and Porsche owner... I really love the last decade of cars! Everyone is firing at the hips and laying down the law. I lived through the 80s as a high schooler where a new Mustang 5.0 H.O. had a V8 pumping out 157 hp. Now a family sedan has over 600 hp and can probably out handle any supercar in the 80’s, 90’s and even early 2000’s.
I don't know if you have been watching the grand tour, but this M5 is actually top 10 on their fastest car section, outperforming 911 and others.
This car is very good looking.

it would be even better if rwd mode in this car was available with DSC ON. Then also Matt would do standing quarter much faster because rear wheels would not slip so much. In this car when you put in rwd mode dsc is off so its like you put car in drift mode.

You can simply buy a BMW 520d, 530d or 540i & turn it into a BMW M5 looking car.
You'll need to:
(1)Buy a BMW M5 bonnet with sporty crises & remove the 5 series bonnet & put the new M5 bonnet.
(2)Buy the M5 sporty bumper & install it to your 5 series.
(3)Buy new M5 grills & install them into your 5 series.
(4)Buy new M5 headlights and install them to your 5 series
(5) Buy New M5 mirrors & rims.....& install it to your 5 series
(6)Buy a rear diffuser
& you're good to go....this can cost you less than $3500
& a pre owned 5 series costs $30 000 whereas the BMW M5 F90 costs +$85 000.......by Buying and tuning the 5 series into an M5, you will definitely save more than 55% of what you might have spent buying a new M5.

stefano cioni if only I could get the 2018 BMW m5. I myself own a e39 530i so not quite an m5 but i stand by it and it's by far the best car I've ever owned. For a luxury sedan and a killer sports car you get the best of both worlds.

It's not even a secret that the standard F10 M5 had a lot more than it's claimed 560hp. They often dyno'd at a shade over 600hp (flywheel/crank) so it's likely this F90 M5 has around 650hp from the engine. Obviously independant dyno tests will prove or disprove that.

That's a common trait of turbocharged engines in general. The 63 is a turbo engine now too so that probably applies to it as well.
But really 0.1 seconds is splitting hairs. There's more variability than that in the time it takes him to floor the accelerator. For all practical purposes they have the same acceleration.

The addition of the xdrive definitely solidifies the M5 as the best super saloon yet
The Truth
The M5's interior is a lot better. It is subtle, elegant, functional, Driver oriented and classy. MB interior looks like a teenage kids fantasy, it's too tacky and gimmicky. It has lost its class and appeal.
As for as the 0-60 time, doesn't matter if they do a drag race at the same time. M5 will be quicker because it has roughly the same power as a E63 S and has yhe same drivetrain but weighs less. It's common sense.

The M5 is long , wide and even powerful , thought the amg leaves it behind in case of torque , but still its the best car for city drive as well as when you want to hangout alone

The reviewers are saying this lacks character compared to the E63. If that's true then it's a shame as BMW are really on their A game in the looks dept. From where I'm sitting this car has tons of character. Don't know, but I really don't like the look of most Mercs in the last few years.
It doesnt the M5 has character the e63s amg feels heavy.
Being able to fully switch between AWD and RWD makes this thing a complete joy. Good job right there BMW. Now overwork the S85 V10 and put it into that beauty!

Was totally thinking this. When i change my M135i next. Thinking of a 440i or a c43 coupe next and i will look at mileage, price and i dont really care which one i end up with. Both have 3 litre engines, both sound good. Both have similar performance. I imagine the 440i will be cheaper though.

Matt, this kind of rear spoiler is there to... well... "spoil" the air flow, for more top speed, and not downforce.
The entire car design is low down force - especially at the back. At least the front spliter should have some real effect to reduce understeer at high speed. When you examine the design, this car's high speed composure around corners is really compromised at the back end. The car needs an effective rear wing (not spoiler) and a real diffuser.
i think bmw knows whats best for theyr car. you do know that you do know you can simulate downforce by having tons of gadgets and computer systems

Looks great! Just needs a slightly bigger bootlid spoiler. Can't wait for the new m3/m4 with the Mxdrive system. M3 is plenty big enough for the family and much lighter.
This m5 looks just so good. Much nicer than e63 amg or RS6. And love interior. So nice they are still using buttons and knobs:) so much easier to use when driving:)

I think you are, there is nothing wrong with his comment, it is funny but also saz that he doesn't necessarily wants the fastest car but just likes the bmw more even if it would be slower, you are just butthurt it is quicker with less hp and nm, saz a lot about you tho, you just on of that dudes who wants the fastest car, in a straight line that is cause when the first corner is passed the bmw is steady going and you will somewhere be planted on a tree trying to keep up with the bmw thinkin it will have the same grip and driving capability as the bmw.

Well done! m5 is crazy fast! I would need to spend seat time in this and the e63s to choose bc they both have a lot to offer and I think how I felt behind the wheel and going down the road would make up my mind. Panamera is cool but the turbo is just too much, I don’t see the value over these.
Hey Matt, at 6:22 I don't think the air breather is fake. I think it pulls air through the vents in the front bumper which flows over the wheel (inside the fender) then out through the side gill. I could be wrong though.

hey, you BMW fanboys the both cars were tested in different weathers, different roads and different conditons..here in this video th-cam.com/video/s41BKOFgb3Y/w-d-xo.html the E63s (stock) in drag race with CLS63 ( modified) the E63s recorded 11.003 seconds quarter mile which is 11.0 ! (11.003=11.0) the same of the M5 so what now ?

Several BMW Tech's have told me the M's are much more robust in their construction overall. Panzerwagen!
