Your videos are some of the best on TH-cam and this is one is a better car review than most on Top Gear too. When some channels have over a million subscribers and you only have 35K is one of the great puzzles of the modern world. Anyways I have ordered an E63S estate from Hughes and are expecting it Sept/October. They have upgraded the steering wheel for post June 2018 builds too. Gone for drivers assist package so will have AMG sports seats rather than performance seats. I am okay with that.

I just got my new M5 Competition 2 weeks ago. My most recent vehicles include 2018 S5 auto, 2012 991.1 manual as well as a 2006 997.1 in manual and I believe this to be the best vehicle I’ve ever owned. This is just the perfect blend of power, grace, comfort, looks and practicality. Well done BMW and that’s from a Porsche guy!
As a BMW fan for over 15 years, I've been following Rokenr for a long time. But this video with this type of editing just feels like it's my birthday. Totally killed it man! Such an underated channel!
The M5 is not designed to be a hotrod. The whole M5 ethos is about being an executive express not an upsized M2. Bmw designed the car the way they wanted to knowing their target market (not M2/3/4 buyers). They also leave headroom for the CP, which buyers can choose as a more powerful, focused variant. The E63S was designed as a luxury hotrod. It’s not better or faster than the M5, it’s just a little different. Both cars have the pros and cons and it’s buyer’s choice. Added to that, the opinions of “the internet”, most of whom are ill informed dirt poor fanboys are utterly irrelevant to car manufacturers.

@d c They are both German manufacturers. Quite frankly, they should copy each other. I'd be pissed if they didn't copy eachother. A good idea is a good idea.. workking together to bring about the best of both views and approaches towards a car. It should be like that with all car manufacturers.. then we'd just have better and better cars :)

Lovely review, one thing I think you missed was the ride quality which having driven both the E63 and the M5 extensively, is very different between the cars. I found the E63 to be a much harder ride where on UK B roads was quite harsh v the M5, but at high speeds and on smooth roads meant it handled better. The M5 was much softer and compliant and a nicer commuting car in my opinion. It thus could be a big differentiator depending on what type of driving a person would be doing.
I'm never disappoint with any of your auto reviews . The intro was out of this world. I would love for you to fly across the pond and review my 3.0 ,04 Passat .
I couldn't imagine this car with wide guards.. Just wouldn't suit the audience it's selling to. It's staying away from sheep manufactures. You can see wide guards on a Hyundai these days. Big whoop.
Mr. Amg, actually BMW were first to introduce V hot turbo layout not MERCEDES AMG! Bmw m5 f10 has the same layout of turbos, the thing is that bmw never emphasized this fact.
I consider my self very lucky because I had a chance to drive both M5 and E63 AMG not only for a short while but both for few days each. The biggest different is suspension during regular every day driving. BMW is much much more comfortable car than E63 AMG. The thing I like most in BMW is it feels much smaller car when I drive it but that comes to very 5 series this generation. E63 is still very big heavy and u feel it every moment u drive it and some people may also like it. I think u feel when sit inside the car u feel much more expensive and luxury in Mercedes. It’s more premium inside. Actually not the tech in Mercedes is more impressive , digital in BMW is pretty nice in fact just the overall quality and design in Mercedes is better. Rest of the differences comes to personal preferences what u like most. Both great cars. Overall great video Raz. good luck.
Red 2847 Mercedes Interior is more luxury and BMW is more sporty if u can say that. I prefer a Mercedes interior but it’s 50/50 if I talk to people. In terms of “slower or faster” both cars are insanely fast. BMW 5 series feels like smaller car then E class Mercedes with any engine. Same way M5 feels smaller more agile car than E 63. Honest answer is u need to be amazing driver to feel those small difference between cars because both of them are very very fast. It’s very difficult to pick better car because it’s more about personal preferences what kind of car u want and witch way u want to use it and hear if. I prefer M5 because it’s more quite and it’s better daily because of suspension . Most people will choseE63 because of the engine sound. I rather have M5 because it’s more quite and usable everyday. If u want engine sound lauder and angrier E63 is better car. Personal preferences all the way.
Pevvex Pevvex thanks for that review. What about exterior design which you prefer? It looks to me like the m5 body seems much wider/larger while e63 seems to look smaller from outside. Also the rounded on the e63 makes it look less aggressive to me vs the more angular m5 style what do you think?
Red 2847 in my opinion BMW M5 is ugly from the front and very nice at the back and Mercedes E63 is the opposite way. Overall it’s personal preferences. I would even say colors matter for this cars as well. BMW looks better in dark colors and Mercedes in light colors. If it’s the look u want inside and outside I would take Mercedes. If it’s daily driver I take BMW. If I want brutal sound of V8 and have other cars to drive family I take Mercedes. If I carry family I take M5. That’s all comes to this kind of choices u have to make because both cars are so similar and amazing.
Better than every e63s on the planet. You can take a stock M5, take it to the Nürburgring and you can do a 7:38, thats AMG GTS territory. Without tune bone stock! Thats why the M5 is the better car. The e63s is over 7 seconds slower ....
xCobi 99% of owners will not be able to squeeze out that marginal difference in performance. That is 1.5% faster than the AMG and unless you’re a professional driver then I doubt you will be faster...
Exterior is certainly subtle, but the interior just blows everything else out the water for me. The luxuriousness of it, the tech and quality of the infotainment is just the best out there. Exhaust sounded better than I expected too.

Remove Before Race Interesting. I didn’t notice much of a difference in throttle response when I moved to AMG GTS from an M5 F10. I remember M5 having close to a N/A response, maybe I need to hop in one now after driving an AMG it would be easier to tell!

Growing up as a kid the M5 was my favorite car other than the obvious poster cars of the 80s and 90s( Mclaren F1, Ferrari F40, F50, Testorrossa, Countach, Etc). I am fortunate enough now that I am an adult and after working very hard for years I can afford such cars. I have owned new AMG products for the past 4 years starting with a 4matic w212 e63s. I love them all not only quality and reliability wise but from their over all personality. I currently own a w213 e63s and absolutely love it. I have already tracked my car 4 times, drifted it and hit up local drag strips with it. I am the hooligan that takes his 4 door family saloon and drives them to there limits( 3rd set of tires and on my second set of brakes) at 6300 kms. My other current car is the greatest car ever made: 2001 e39 M5. True M car. I love the damn thing even though its nearly 18 years old. I drove the new m5 f90....local BMW dealer brought it to my office for me to drive it. It was very fast, quality of materials was amazing, felt a little smaller than the E and I liked the non airbag suspension more compliant under comfort cruising but a little better dampened than the E. E feels like a race car. It edgy, loud, vicious and the steering feel is fantastic. E feels more exciting and makes every drive feel more of a special occasion. It feels like it has more of a soul and thats why I like it more. Amg has more class and more of a presence. M cars had it in the 90s and the early 2000s and maybe they will have that same excitement and prestige again.
So which one felt faster? It seems all the test have the m5 faster in the straights despite its torque disadvantage. Also exterior wise it seems m5 looks a little larger in size giving it much presence as well
the dimension of both are identical e63 vs the m5. Granted I picked up the 2020 M5 I felt as though the steering was better and the car felt quicker and more exciting than the E63S. Not to mention the lease was almost double on the mercedes which was certainly not double the car.
Great video, I'd love to hear your opinion on the new comp pack m5 vs the e63s. My lease is up in 6 months and trying to decide between the 2 cars and no dealers have cars available for a test drive near me.
After driving both I can agree with you in general. E63s has better sound, but gear lever on the steering column is unforgivable. M5 sweet are soo sweet. And in the end it’s your subjective preference that will make you select the one for you. M5 CP in the mail, but it was a very hard call. I did fine the digital instrument on the E63s a bit cluttered, but did not drive either actively so I hope I won’t regret the steering ... I did however prefer it in heavy mode. M5 did seem a bit better equipped across the board, all was set to 11. But think what previous cars you have had will be a huge influence.

Top review dude! For me, the car feels very revvy if that makes sense. Find that between 1k and 2.5-3k there’s massive turbo lag and not as torquey as you’d think. And I agree with the paddles, being a cheap plastic, so annoying. But other than that, it’s a superb car, silly fast and planted as you’ve said.
The fact that it's quieter than an e63 was a main selling point for me and pushed me over the edge so I went M5. This is my daily and I take countless conference calls, drive around clients, kids, etc. and the e63 would just be too much sound. Either way, both amazing cars, curious to see what the new RS7 will sound like...As far as Mr. AMG, the best reviews I've seen on TH-cam, I watch them all even if I don't give two shits about the car.
RBR....class review as always...get yourself in front of Barbara Brocolli , you should be the next Bond 😁 I'm an M3 Comp Pack owner and for me as a BMW fan the next step up is the M5 but you are so right the design is not agressive enough, the alloys are just awful and the digital display is already old, the E63 is the better looking car for me and on a part performance wise. Im going to wait for the MY2020 M3 be interesting to see if thats got the xdrive treatment....hope so.
The reason I won't be buying another bmw is the dash looks so dated . I wont a three quarter lenth integrated lcd dash. When I spend that sort of money I expect the car to be with me for a few years .Well it looks dated already .Going for the new Mercedes e63 , thanks to you lol.

The F90 M5 is actually wider in the front than the normal 5 series

I am fortunate enough now that I am an adult and after working very hard for years I can afford such cars. I have owned new AMG products for the past 4 years starting with a 4matic w212 e63s. I love them all not only quality and reliability wise but from their over all personality. I currently own a w213 e63s and absolutely love it. I have already tracked my car 4 times, drifted it and hit up local drag strips with it. I am the hooligan that takes his 4 door family saloon and drives them to there limits( 3rd set of tires and on my second set of brakes) at 6300 kms. My other current car is the greatest car ever made: 2001 e39 M5. True M car. I love the damn thing even though its nearly 18 years old. I drove the new m5 f90....local BMW dealer brought it to my office for me to drive it. It was very fast, quality of materials was amazing, felt a little smaller than the E and I liked the non airbag suspension more compliant under comfort cruising but a little better dampened than the E. E feels like a race car. It edgy, loud, vicious and the steering feel is fantastic. E feels more exciting and makes every drive feel more of a special occasion. It feels like it has more of a soul and thats why I like it more. Amg has more class and more of a presence. M cars had it in the 90s and the early 2000s and maybe they will have that same excitement and prestige again.

So which one felt faster? It seems all the test have the m5 faster in the straights despite its torque disadvantage. Also exterior wise it seems m5 looks a little larger in size giving it much presence as well

the dimension of both are identical e63 vs the m5. Granted I picked up the 2020 M5 I felt as though the steering was better and the car felt quicker and more exciting than the E63S. Not to mention the lease was almost double on the mercedes which was certainly not double the car.

After driving both I can agree with you in general. E63s has better sound, but gear lever on the steering column is unforgivable. M5 sweet are soo sweet. And in the end it’s your subjective preference that will make you select the one for you. M5 CP in the mail, but it was a very hard call. I did fine the digital instrument on the E63s a bit cluttered, but did not drive either actively so I hope I won’t regret the steering ... I did however prefer it in heavy mode. M5 did seem a bit better equipped across the board, all was set to 11. But think what previous cars you have had will be a huge influence.
Felt like I was the only person who thought the M2 is the best designed M car to date. Anyways, great video!

Top review dude! For me, the car feels very revvy if that makes sense. Find that between 1k and 2.5-3k there’s massive turbo lag and not as torquey as you’d think. And I agree with the paddles, being a cheap plastic, so annoying. But other than that, it’s a superb car, silly fast and planted as you’ve said.
The M5 Competition is the car you should have tested. It is the true competition for the Merc and absolutely kills it.
Off topic: can you review the new straight six 400d soon preferably in an e class estate. And compare it to that V6 All Terrain. Thanks

The fact that it's quieter than an e63 was a main selling point for me and pushed me over the edge so I went M5. This is my daily and I take countless conference calls, drive around clients, kids, etc. and the e63 would just be too much sound. Either way, both amazing cars, curious to see what the new RS7 will sound like...As far as Mr. AMG, the best reviews I've seen on TH-cam, I watch them all even if I don't give two shits about the car.
RBR....class review as always...get yourself in front of Barbara Brocolli , you should be the next Bond 😁 I'm an M3 Comp Pack owner and for me as a BMW fan the next step up is the M5 but you are so right the design is not agressive enough, the alloys are just awful and the digital display is already old, the E63 is the better looking car for me and on a part performance wise. Im going to wait for the MY2020 M3 be interesting to see if thats got the xdrive treatment....hope so.

The reason I won't be buying another bmw is the dash looks so dated . I wont a three quarter lenth integrated lcd dash.
